一、阅读七选五:本大题共5小题,共10分。
Water in the middle of a desert sounds good. But the Dead Sea does not hold water that people or animals can drink. The Dead Sea is the saltiest place on Earth. (1) It is called a sea because it does not have freshwater.
(2) The Dead Sea lies in a closed area with no way out. More than three million years ago, salt water from the Mediterranean Sea flowed into it. Today, rivers still bring water into the Dead Sea, but the water cannot flow out. Some of the water evaporates (蒸发) in the hot sun, and salt is left behind.
Lakes are usually filled with plants and animals. (3) Nothing can survive in its salty water. There is no seaweed. If fish from the river swim into the Dead Sea by mistake, they die quickly. The water is so salty — it is at least seven times saltier than seawater—that it can kill almost everything.
(4) One of the main must-do activities on all tourists’ lists is floating in the Dead Sea. It is actually harder to stand in the Dead Sea than it is to float. Some tourists even like to read books as they float on top of the water.
However, the Dead Sea does not always exist. (5) Because of climate change and human activities, its water level has dropped by about 8 feet in the past 40 years. If this situation continues, the Dead Sea may completely disappear in the future.
The Dead Sea may not have much life, but it is an experience that should be part of yours.
A.It is really a lake.
B.Where is the Dead Sea
C.In fact, it is slowly disappearing.
D.So, why is the water in the Dead Sea so salty

Usually, the forest animals would have run away from Roz. But they were very curious why she was carrying a gosling on her shoulder. And once Roz explained the situation, the animals actually tried to help. A frog pointed Roz up to the squirrels. A squirrel recommended that she speak with the magpies (喜鹊). “A very good morning to you!” said the robot in a friendly voice. “I have a lovely little gosling with me!”

“Mama! Mama!” peeped the gosling.
“I have tried to tell him that I am not his mother,” said the robot. “But he does not understand.”
“Well, you’ll have to act like his mother if you want him to survive. You do want him to survive, don’t you ” said the goose.
“Yes,” said the robot. “But I do not know how to act like a mother.”
“Oh, it’s nothing, you just have to provide the gosling with food and water, make him feel loved but don’t pamper (娇惯) him too much, keep him away from danger, and make sure he learns to walk and talk and swim and fly and get along with others and look after himself. Mystery. The word excites our curiosity. Mystery novels sell thousands of copies each year. Agatha Christie, the Queen of Mystery, is the bestselling novelist of all time. She wrote 66 detective novels and many short-story collections. Her works have sold over 2 billion copies and have been translated into more than 100 languages.
Agatha was born on September 15, 1890, in Torquay, England. As she was growing up in the quiet town, her mother often told her stories. Agatha loved these stories that transported her into a world of fantasy. Her mother also encouraged her to write from a young age.
At 16, Christie went to a school in Paris to study piano and singing. She spent hours practising and learned to play the piano very well, but she never made music a career because of stage fright (怯场).
At 22, she fell in love with Archie Christie. They got married in 1914 at the beginning of World War I. Archie fought as a soldier, and Christie worked as a nurse and later in a hospital drugstore. This experience gave her knowledge of poisons (毒药), which she later used in many of her mystery plots. In 1920, her first novel, The Mysterious Affair at Styles introduced the brilliant Belgian detective Hercule Poirot. Though the book was refused by several publishers, it was finally published later the same year.

As a Chinese invention, almost from the beginning, porcelain was a popular item for export (出口) to nearby countries. As early as Roman times, Chinese porcelain flowed west into Europe by the Silk Road. However, the amount of Chinese porcelain reaching Europe was quite small. Things changed in the early 16th century when Europeans built bases for trade in Asia. More than 30 million pieces of Chinese porcelain were imported (进口) by the Dutch during the early 17th century, with Britain and France not far behind.
At that time, much of the porcelain produced by Jingdezhen was made specially for sale to Europe. Later, Western companies bought undecorated Jingdezhen porcelain, transported it to Guangzhou for decoration with Western designs. In time, Europeans learned the secrets of porcelain-making and produced it locally in their own factories in the West. With little shipping cost, their products were cheaper. As a result, Jingdezhen went into decline (衰落) in the late Qing Dynasty and almost stopped production in the early 20th century. However, in the late 20th century, fine Jingdezhen porcelain became popular again worldwide, bringing the ancient kilns back to life.
Now we have plenty of quality factory-made tableware (餐具). It can be hard for many people to understand why Chinese porcelain was so popular in the past. About four hundred years ago, European families might have only two choices—cheap, low-quality metal dishes, or fine, expensive Chinese porcelain. Metal dishes would finally be melted down (熔毁). However, the fine Chinese porcelain would be kept for many years, loved and admired by guests. Which of these would you choose
Today, Chinese porcelain still holds great value. When you pick up a modern-day teacup, you are holding something made by a machine. However, when you pick up an ancient piece of porcelain, you are holding a piece of art made from earth, water, and fire, all by hand. It is the result of the imagination, the labor, the love, and the very hearts of the people who made it—and that has great value even for a simple bowl for washing brushes.
27.How did Chinese porcelain spread to Europe in Roman times
A. By sea trade.
B. By the Silk Road.
C. Through Dutch traders.
D. With the help of Britain and France.
28.What can we learn about the development of Jingdezhen porcelain
A. It was mainly made for local use in the 17th century.
B. Europeans knew little about porcelain-making secrets.
C. Europeans decorated it with special Chinese designs.
D. It went through a hard time but came back to life later.
29.According to paragraph 3, Europeans chose Chinese porcelain because _______.
A. it would be kept for years
B. it was a way to show love to guests
C. it would finally be melted down
D. it was much cheaper than metal dishes
30.What is the main idea of the passage
A. What caused Jingdezhen porcelain’s decline.
B. When Chinese porcelain first reached Western Europe.
C. Why Chinese porcelain has been valued across centuries.
D. How European countries copied Chinese porcelain styles.

31.The “crying horse” soft toy first appeared in a shop in Yiwu, Zhejiang Province. Like other horse toys, it has short legs, a golden bell around its neck, and the words “Wishing you rich soon” on its side. What makes it special is a small sewing (缝纫) mistake: its mouth is upside down, turning a cheerful smile into a sad expression. Surprisingly, many people like it because they think it looks just like them.
“When life doesn’t go well, looking at its face makes me feel better,” said Ms. Zhu from Tianjin. “It makes me feel like I’m not alone.”
The “crying horse” is not the only cute toy that warms people’s hearts. A similar product is “Ma Biaobiao” from the Shandong Art Museum, which stands out for its messy, carefree hairstyle. Unlike the “crying horse,” it is inspired (受……启发) by a horse painting by Chinese artist Qi Baishi. Its design is no accident. Many people see themselves in it, rushing to work in the morning with no time to brush their hair. There are also other lovely toys, such as Labubu dolls. Many people like these toys partly because of their “ugly cuteness”.
It may seem strange that imperfect items are becoming so popular, but this style shows our true selves. Like Labubu, many of us are born “imperfect”, with crooked (长歪了的) teeth or small eyes. In daily life, none of us can be happy, tidy, or patient all the time. But it’s only human to be “imperfect” and sometimes feel unhappy.
(1) In what way is the “crying horse” different from other horse toys _______________________________________________________
(2) Why are “crying horse” and “Ma Biaobiao” becoming so popular (No more than 15 words.)_______________________________________________________
(3) What is your own favourite toy Why do you like it _______________________________________________________

Order Your Time, Order Your Life
Every minute of our lives is valuable, and how we use it shapes our days. Look at the two jars in the picture.
The jars stand for our time. If we put small stones and sand first, there will be no room for big stones, which are the important things in life. But if we start with the big stones, we can fit everything in well. I used to waste a lot of time on short videos and games, leaving little time for study. As a result, my grades dropped. To solve this, I made a daily to-do list, putting important tasks first. Slowly, I could balance study and free time.
From this, I learned that good time management plays an important role in our lives. It helps us live well and study better.
