Oliver Asks for More(Excerpt)The boys polished(擦亮) their bowls daily until they shone, for they were constantly short of food. They took their meals in a vast stone hall,at the end of which stood a huge pot.The master served thin, watery soup, and each boy received only one small bowl-no more,no less.Even on Sundays, they were given nothing but a tiny piece of bread.
One evening, following a long day of labor, the boys seated themselves at the tables. The soup was served and swallowed rapidly, and as always,no one felt satisfied. Two of the elder boys held a secret conversation.Driven by extreme hunger, they determined that one of them should go up to the master after supper and beg,"Please, sir,I want some more."
They selected Oliver Twist.Though small, pale and weak-looking,he was terribly hungry. When the meal ended,Oliver rose to his feet.Holding his bowl and spoon,he walked slowly toward the master.
"Please, sir,"he murmured in a faint voice."I want some more."
The master,a stout,well-fed man, turned pale instantly. He gazed at Oliver in utter astonishment,as though he could not trust his own ears.
"What?"he uttered at last, his voice shaking.
"Please, sir,"Oliver repeated firmly."I want some more."
The master struck him violently on the head with a ladle(锅勺),seized him by the arm and shouted for help.Mr.Bumble,an officer of the workhouse, rushed in immediately.

A beautiful sunset,a cup of coffee,a concert, and what do we do?We reach for our phones and snap, capturing every angle.
In the smartphone age,we take more photos than ever, with an average of 15 a day.But research shows continuous photo-taking causes the"photo impairment effect",weakening our memory real experiences—like a museum study where photographers remembered fewer artwork details than viewers.Still, photos can act as visual reminders to awaken forgotten sensory details and enrich shared memories with others if used properly.Studies suggest that seeing pictures taken by friends at the same event can help us recall additional details, enriching our memories.
Social media has changed why we take photos:we once took photos mainly for art or to remember family gatherings, many now take them to communicate an experience to others. While this form of self-expression isn't necessarily bad,it can lead to divided attention, which is a memory killer. The key is balance, not quitting photos entirely. We can use a camera instead of a phone to limit shots, choose only highlight moments to capture,or ask others to take photos for us.Revisiting unnecessary photos can also remind us real moments are better than images.
Moreover, taking"mental photos"—focusing on sights, sounds and smells—creates stronger memories. If we must take a photo, try focusing on a unique aspect or detail, which makes us more likely to remember the scene while still capturing it.
Taking fewer photos can help us tune in,be more present, and create memories that last.So next time you're reaching for the camera, ask yourself,"Do I really need this shot,or is this one best saved for my memory?"
21.What is the"photo impairment effect"according to the passage? ______
A. Taking more photos makes memories more vivid
B. Photo-taking makes people forget real experience details

D. Social media makes people take photos for self-expression
22.We can infer from the passage that ______ .
A. people took more photos before social media appeared
B. a digital image is better than a"mental photo" for memory
C. photos taken by friends can make our memories richer
D. quitting taking photos is the best way to live in the moment
23.The underlined word"entirely"in the passage probably means ______ .
A. completely B. necessarily C. unhappily D. impatiently
24.Which way can help us keep balance between taking photos and living in the moment? ______
A. Taking photos of everything we see
B. Using a phone to get the perfect photo angle
C. Asking others to take a few photos for us
D. Revisiting past unnecessary pictures in the album
25.What's the main idea of the passage? ______
A. How to take better photos to record life
B. The reasons why people take photos in the smartphone age
C. Different ways to create stronger memories in daily life
