In recent years, China has been working really hard on new countryside construction (建设). The aim is to make countryside much better. The goal is to make the difference between cities and countryside smaller and help farmers live a better life.
Before, many rural areas had lots of problems. The roads were bad, with lots of holes. It was difficult to walk on them. There wasn't much clean water, and there were not enough modern things like good schools and hospitals. To solve these problems, the government started building new roads. They made sure every village could be reached easily. Clean-water-providing systems were set up, so, villagers could have safe water to drink. New schools and hospitals were built too. These changes made education and medical care in rural areas much better.
To make the economy (经济) better, the government told farmers to grow special farm crops (作物). For example, in some places, farmers grow fruits and vegetables. They sell these products both near their homes and in big cities. Many rural villages also started to develop tourism. More and more tourists come to enjoy the fresh air and the quiet life there. These things have made farmers make more money.
What's more, protecting the environment is very important. Villages are now cleaner because there are good ways to deal with waste. There are green trees and colorful flowers everywhere. The countryside becomes more beautiful.

Are you listening to music or eating a snack while you read this Are you thinking about your homework at the same time If you are doing two or more things together, you are multitasking. But is that always good
You might think that multitasking saves time. For a start, you get to kill two birds with one stone. However, scientists are finding that multitasking can put us under a lot of stress, and actually make us less efficient (高效的).
Researchers are now trying to find out how the brain moves attention from one subject to another. Although doing many things at the same time can be a way of making tasks more fun and lively, “you have to keep in mind that you do this at the cost of focus,” said psychiatrist (精神病专家) and author Edward M. Hallowell.
However, there are examples in which multitasking can be helpful. In some cases, listening to music while doing easy homework makes some students feel more creative because they are using different ways of thinking. And people can do simple, everyday tasks together, such as walking and talking. But, once they need deeper thinking, the brain has “a serious bottleneck,” Hallowell said.
Modern technology helps us finish more tasks in less time. Life today is very different from 10 or 20 years ago. Back then, office workers only had a typewriter, a phone, and maybe a coworker who visited the office. Telephones with cords (电线) were common and couldn't be moved around. You had to sit down to chat—doing many things at once was not possible. Now, smartphones and PDAs bring us more distractions (使分心的事).
Multitasking can make things more exciting, but be careful. As Hallowell added, “Multitasking gives the illusion (幻觉) that we’re achieving things at the same time, but we’re really not. It’s like playing tennis with three balls.”
What is multitasking according to the passage
Doing one thing very carefully.
B. Listening to music while sleeping.
C. Doing two or more things together.
D. Thinking about your homework all the time.
28. What do scientists think of multitasking
A. It is good for deep thinking.
B. It makes the brain work faster.
C. It always saves time and energy.
D. It can make people less efficient.
29. When is multitasking helpful according to the passage
A. When we have too much stress.
B. When we play tennis with three balls.
C. When we do easy tasks like walking and talking.
D. When we do homework that needs deep thinking.
30. What does the example“playing tennis with three balls”want to tell us
A. Multitasking is just an illusion.
B. Multitasking is exciting and useful.
C. Doing sports is better than multitasking.
D. We can do many things well at the same time.
第三节 短文填空(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)
根据短文内容,从下面方框中选择适当的选项补全短文,注意选项中有一个多余选项。
The Importance of “The Last Time”
We always talk about “the first time”—the first day of school, the first time we rode a bike, or the first time we went to a new country. 31 But we almost never talk about “the last time”—the last day of school, the last time we played with an old toy, or the last time we saw someone we love. 32
We don’t know when something will be the last time. When we are kids, we play with toys every day, then suddenly we stop. 33 Also, “the last time” can make us sad. Saying goodbye to a good teacher or leaving our old home is hard, so we don’t like to think about it.
Think about the last time your parents read you a bedtime story, or the last time you played with a close friend before they moved away. At that time, you didn’t know it was the last time, but now these memories mean a lot.
34 Life is always changing, and we should enjoy the good things while we can. Knowing about “the last time” helps us have fewer regrets and more love.
So we should cherish “the last time” as much as “the first time”. It tells us to love the people and moments in our life. 35 If yes, make it meaningful.
Years later, we realize that was the last time. These moments are bright and easy to remember. C. Next time, ask yourself: Could this be the last time D. If we care about “the last time”, we will value what we have now. E. These moments are just as important, but we often don’t notice them. F. Everyone remembers “the first time” because it brings more happiness.
