(2026·北京平谷·一模)Can Sleeping Longer on Weekends Help Teens Feel Less Anxious
For many teens, Saturday mornings are a time to sleep longer. After a busy week, the weekend offers a chance to catch up on sleep. A new study finds that sleeping a little longer on weekends may help reduce anxiety (焦虑)—but only if teens get less than two extra hours of sleep.
Sleep is important for the brain and body, especially for teenagers. However, 75 percent of American teens do not get the recommended 8 to 10 hours of sleep each night. School and other activities make them wake up early, and their body clocks make it hard to fall asleep before 11 p.m.
Some past studies suggested that too much weekend sleep might be linked to depression (抑郁). But no one had carefully studied how it relates to anxiety. So researcher Sojeong Kim decided to find out.
Kim used data from nearly 1, 900 teens aged 12 to 15. She looked at their sleep patterns (模式) and their feelings of anxiety. She found that teens who slept in for less than two extra hours on weekends reported the lowest anxiety symptoms. Teens who did not sleep in, or who lost sleep on weekends, had higher anxiety. Those who slept more than two extra hours had the highest anxiety symptoms of all.
Kim shared her findings at a meeting in 2025. She thinks that big changes between weekday and weekend sleep schedules may cause a problem called “social jet lag”. This happens when the body’s clock does not match the sleep cycle. It can make people feel tired and unfocused.
Kim did not find a clear link between weekend sleep and depression. That may be because depression usually starts later in adolescence (青春期). Anxiety, however, often begins earlier.
For now, Kim’s advice for teens is simple: getting a little extra sleep on weekends may help you feel less anxious, but too much may have the opposite effect.
1.What is important for teenagers’ brain and body according to the passage
2.What problem may be caused by big changes between weekday and weekend sleep schedules
3.Why did Kim not find a clear link between weekend sleep and depression
4.Which sleep habit do you prefer on weekends — not sleeping in, sleeping in for less than two extra hours, or sleeping in for more than two extra hours Why (Please give two reasons.)
【答案】1.Sleep. 2.Social jet lag. 3.Because depression usually starts later in adolescence. 4.Sleeping in for less than two extra hours. Reason 1: It helps reduce teens’ anxiety. Reason 2: It may cause less social jet lag and help people stay energetic and focused.
1.第二段提到“Sleep is important for the brain and body, especially for teenagers.”直接提取原文信息。
2.第五段提到“big changes between weekday and weekend sleep schedules may cause a problem called ‘social jet lag’.”直接提取原文信息即可。
3.第六段提到“That may be because depression usually starts later in adolescence.”直接说明了:这或许是因为抑郁症通常在青春期后期才会出现。
4.本题为开放性题目,答案不唯一,言之有理即可。

(2026·北京门头沟·二模)阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
How I Learned to Get My Social Energy Back
Do you know what a social battery is A social battery refers to the energy a person has for social activities. Like a phone battery, if a person uses up his or her energy, the social battery will also run out. I didn’t realize how important it was to manage this “battery” until last term, when I went through a tiring and confusing period.
It all started during a busy month: three group project presentations, a school festival volunteer job, and many class debates. As an introvert (性格内向者), I’ve never been good at dealing with so many social events at the same time, but I pushed myself to take part in everything to “fit in”. On a Friday night, after a two-hour team discussion and a class party, I got a call from my best friend Lily. I stared at the phone for minutes and felt too tired to pick it up—I just wanted to sit alone quietly. That’s when I realized that my social battery was completely used up.
Social battery levels can be influenced by different factors (因素), including personality, physical health and the types of activities. My poor sleep during that busy month made things worse; even a short conversation in class felt like it was a burden (负担). Finally, I talked to my English teacher, Ms. Wang. She explained that managing social energy isn’t about being unsociable— it’s about self-awareness. She shared some practical ways to recharge (充电), and I decided to give them a try.
First, I started using a calendar to plan my social activities, leaving gaps for rest between them. Second, I focused on “really important” events and said no to less meaningful gatherings. Third, I learned to take short breaks during stressful activities. During group project meetings, I would go out for 10 minutes to take a walk on campus or listen to music, which refreshed me quickly.
After trying these methods for a month, I noticed a huge change. Last week, I successfully attended a class picnic and then spent a quiet Sunday afternoon painting— something I couldn’t have done before without getting tired. I also realized that recharging doesn’t mean avoiding people; it means finding a balance between social time and being alone. Now I can enjoy hanging out with my friends while keeping my energy in check, and this balance has made my school life much more enjoyable and fulfilling.
1.What are the factors that influence social battery levels
2.How did the writer recharge his/ her social battery during stressful activities
3.What did the writer learn about recharging the social battery in the end
4.Would you prefer to recharge your social battery alone or with close friends Give two reasons for your choice.
【答案】1.Personality, physical health and the types of activities. 2.He/She would go out for 10 minutes to take a walk on campus or listen to music to refresh himself/herself. 3.It doesn’t mean avoiding people but finding a balance between social time and being alone. 4.I prefer to recharge my social battery with close friends. First, chatting with them helps me relieve stress gently. Second, enjoyable interactions make me recharge my social battery happily.
1.第三段“Social battery levels can be influenced by different factors (因素), including personality, physical health and the types of activities.”可直接得出结论,三个影响因素分别是性格、身体健康和活动类型。故填Personality, physical health and the types of activities。
2.第四段“Third, I learned to take short breaks during stressful activities. During group project meetings, I would go out for 10 minutes to take a walk on campus or listen to music, which refreshed me quickly.”可推知作者的方法。故填He/She would go out for 10 minutes to take a walk on campus or listen to music to refresh himself/herself。
3.最后一段“I also realized that recharging doesn’t mean avoiding people; it means finding a balance between social time and being alone.”可直接得出结论。故填It doesn’t mean avoiding people but finding a balance between social time and being alone。
4.I prefer to recharge my social battery with close friends. First, chatting with them helps me relieve stress gently. Second, enjoyable interactions make me recharge my social battery happily。(本题为开放性试题,言之有理即可)

(2026·北京顺义·一模)阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
Playing Out
In recent years, a movement called “Playing Out” has become popular. It aims to bring back safe, community-centered outdoor play for children, helping them stay healthy, happy, and connected to where they live.
Children are gathered on a “playing street” that is temporarily (暂时地) closed to the traffic, where they can play freely, enjoy games together and form new friendships.
The movement started when a group of parents noticed that their children were spending less time playing outside because of safety worries and more time spent on digital entertainment. To change this, they began working together to close their streets for short periods. This creates a safe space for children’s activities like football, skipping and drawing with chalk.
However, there are some challenges. Parents must apply for the street-closing and make sure traffic is managed safely. Some local councils (政务委员会) provide signs and cones to help with this, but in other areas, parents have to find these themselves. There is sometimes a small fee (费用) for applying, and it needs to be done each time. Adults must be there to make sure traffic doesn’t come down the road, as well as setting up signs to tell drivers where to go.
Even so, the benefits are clear. Children learn new physical skills—like kicking a ball or riding a bike—and also social skills, such as how to get along with others from different backgrounds. What’s more, they feel more part of the community. Adults benefit too, by meeting neighbors and breaking down barriers (隔阂) between people. Rachel, one of the founders, says: “The children don’t all go to the same schools, but now they recognize each other. They’ve played team games together and even say ‘Hi’ when they meet in the park.”
The “Playing Out” movement shows how communities can come together to create safe, fun spaces for children. By closing streets to cars and encouraging outdoor play, it helps children live healthier, happier lives while building stronger neighborhoods. The movement hopes to encourage more communities to start their own “playing streets”.
1.What is the purpose of the “Playing Out” movement
2.Why did parents start the “Playing Out” movement
3.What can children learn from the “Playing Out” movement
4.Will you support your community to start your own “playing streets” for children Why or why not (Please give two reasons.)
【答案】1.(It aims) to bring back safe, community-centered outdoor play for children, (helping them stay healthy, happy, and connected to where they live.)/Helping them stay healthy, happy, and connected to where they live. 2.They noticed that their children were spending less time playing outside because of safety worries and more time on digital entertainment./They noticed that their children were spending less time playing outside and more time on digital entertainment./They wanted to change the fact that their children were spending less time playing outside (because of safety worries) and more time on digital entertainment./Because of safety worries and more time on digital entertainment./They noticed that their children were spending less time playing outside (because of safety worries)./They noticed that their children spent more time on digital entertainment. 3.Children learn new physical skills—like kicking a ball or riding a bike—and also social skills, such as how to get along with others from different backgrounds./Children learn new physical skills and also social skills./Children learn new physical skills. /They learn social skills. 4.Yes, I will support it. First, it can provide a safe space for children to play outdoors. Second, it can help them learn physical skills and social skills./No, I won’t support it. First, parents have to apply for street-closing each time and even pay a small fee, which is troublesome. Second, adults must keep watching the road all the time to manage traffic safely, and it takes too much time and energy.
【导语】本文介绍了“Playing Out”活动,它封闭街道为孩子打造安全户外玩耍空间。虽存在申请、管理等难题,但能帮助孩子锻炼身体、学会社交,也拉近邻里关系,值得推广。
1.首段直接给出“Playing Out”运动的目的“It aims to bring back safe, community-centered outdoor play for children, helping them stay healthy, happy, and connected to where they live.”,提取即可。
2.第三段“The movement started when a group of parents noticed that their children were spending less time playing outside because of safety worries and more time spent on digital entertainment.”,提到父母发起该运动的原因——孩子因安全担忧减少户外玩耍,更多时间用于数字娱乐,直接总结。
3.第五段“Children learn new physical skills—like kicking a ball or riding a bike—and also social skills, such as how to get along with others from different backgrounds.”,明确指出孩子能学到的技能(身体技能和社交技能),整合内容即可。
4.本题是开放性试题,需给出支持或反对的两个理由,理由需符合文章主题。

(2026·北京丰台·一模)阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
On social media, have you seen book fans share pictures of cool books and nice reading spaces In real life, have you noticed people reading at coffee shops or on public transport
Before you wonder whether they are truly reading, there’s already a name for this: “performative reading”. As The Week noted, people have joked that these individuals (个人) regard books as “a fashion symbol”.
This trend (潮流) of “performative reading” became more popular in 2021, when the “BookTok” community on TikTok became a place where popular books turned into trendy items. NBC News noted that social media algorithms (算法) push this trend further, as they favor eye-catching things like attractive book covers and coffee cups in city cafes.
However, “performative reading” also made some real book lovers uncomfortable. Alaina Demopoulos, a writer for The Guardian, shared that when she tried to read alone in public to enjoy a lovely evening, two young girls laughed at her, leaving her feeling stressed. On social media, readers spoke out that there’s no such thing as “performative reading”.
Some young people even argue that this so-called “performance” doesn’t reduce the real joy of reading. Selva Khan, a university graduate who enjoys sharing her reads on social media, feels it’s common to “aestheticize (美化) our hobbies”. “I think social media makes everyone perform, whether they accept it or not,” she told NBC News. “I’ve seen posts on various platforms that are ‘performative’ for years, and these are exactly the ones I really enjoy,” Khan added.
Today, as many of us rely heavily on short videos, making it hard to read even a whole book, does it really matter if someone “appears” to be reading Jafei Pollitt, a regular reader, joked online that even pretending to read can encourage someone to start reading. “Acting like a reader can finally lead you to become a real one. You might start for aesthetics but end up getting into the book…” she told NBC News.
1.When did the trend of “performative reading” become more popular
2.Why did Alaina Demopoulos feel stressed when she tried to read alone in public
3.What does Jafei Pollitt think of pretending to read
4.Will you do “performative reading” in this short-video age Why or why not (Please give two reasons.)
【答案】1.In 2021. 2.Because two young girls laughed at her. 3.She thinks it can encourage someone to start reading and may lead them to become a real reader. 4.Yes, I will. Because it can make me form a good reading habit, and it also lets me share the beauty of reading with others online./No, I won’t. Because real reading is for enjoying knowledge, not for showing off, and it wastes time only caring about reading appearance.(答案不唯一)
【导语】本文主要介绍了“表演式阅读”这一潮流的兴起原因、不同人群对此现象的不同看法以及它带来的积极影响。
1.第三段第一句直接点明This trend of “performative reading” became more popular in 2021,可直接提取时间作答。
2.根据第四段“when she tried to read alone in public to enjoy a lovely evening, two young girls laughed at her, leaving her feeling stressed”,可知她感到有压力是因为两个年轻女孩嘲笑她。

In recent years, virtual (虚拟的) museums have changed the way people experience art. Using Virtual Reality (VR) technology, art lovers can now visit famous museums like the Louvre or the British Museum from home.
The idea of virtual museums started in the 1990s. Early experiments used basic 3D modeling to create digital copies of art museums, but the experiences did not feel real. Today, virtual museums are different. VR technology is used, letting users do amazing things, like walking through ancient buildings or touching sculptures (雕塑) up close.
One great advantage of virtual museums is that they help more people enjoy world-famous artworks. People who live far away or cannot travel easily can now enjoy these treasures without leaving their homes. For example, the British Museum’s VR tour has attracted over 2 million users since its start, many from areas where international travel is impractical.
Virtual museums offer more than just looking at artworks. Visitors can look closely at details, listen to explanations, or join virtual workshops. They can even take part in guided tours led by experts. For example, the Louvre’s VR experience allows users to explore the Mona Lisa in 360 degrees and see details that people normally cannot see. Virtual museums turn simple looking into active exploration. That’s why many young people prefer them.
However, traditional museums still have their own advantages. Traditional museums offer the real feeling of standing before a great artwork, which VR cannot provide. Besides, traditional museums let people talk and share ideas with each other, which makes the visit more interesting and educational.
In fact, virtual museums and traditional museums each have their own special qualities. Virtual museums bring art closer to more people, while traditional museums offer real and unforgettable feelings for visitors. They serve people in different ways and both play an important role in the world of art.
1.What technology is used in today’s virtual museums
2.What is one great advantage of virtual museums
3.Why do many young people prefer virtual museums
4.Which way of experiencing art do you prefer, visiting a traditional museum or a virtual museum Why (Please give two reasons.)
【答案】1.VR technology is used in today’s virtual museums. 2.One great advantage of virtual museums is that they help more people enjoy world-famous artworks. 3.Many young people prefer virtual museums because they turn simple looking into active exploration. 4.I prefer visiting a traditional museum because it offers a real and unforgettable feeling of standing before a great artwork and allows me to talk and share ideas with others, making the visit more interesting and educational.

3.第四段提到“Virtual museums turn simple looking into active exploration.
(2026·北京·一模)When I flew back to school from Colorado to start my sophomore (大二) year, my sister cried beside me on the plane. As we looked over the Pacific, she said,“I just realized how far away you are.” Being 1,000 miles from home can feel overwhelming (让人不知所措的), even when my family is just a phone call away.
I always dreamed of going out of state for college, but I didn’t realize how lonely it would be, especially at a school where only 4.64% of the students are from out of state. I’m really lucky to be here. I did the “right” things, worked hard and got myself to a great school in a beautiful place, so why do I just want to go home It was not until the middle of my sophomore year that I realized being unhappy is a possibility and a reality. It doesn’t mean you can’t deal with challenges. It just means that you’re experiencing life.
Living independently has transformed (改变) me in many ways. I’ve become more resourceful and outgoing. I’ve made family out of friends to combat (化解,缓解) the family I miss back at home. The “old me”, who once cried from nerves before my first cross-country practice, would be proud to see how I’ve pushed myself to join new clubs and try new things entirely on my own. I’ve also learned how to get through the tough times by calling my loved ones, spending time with friends and enjoying the culture shock of California. I’m not walking on sunshine all the time while I’m here, but frequent belly laughs with my friends make me pause and realize that I’m going to be fine.
Most importantly, I’ve learned that it’s completely normal to feel down sometimes. And the moments of intense homesickness just prove that I am experiencing growth.
College is challenging for everyone, no matter where you come from. Nevertheless, this experience has taught me how to stand on my own and how to make a home out of two places.
1.Why did the writer’s sister cry on the plane
22.What has transformed the writer in many ways
23.What do the moments of intense homesickness prove
24.Would you prefer to attend a university far from your home or one nearby Why
(Please give two reasons.)
【答案】1.
Because she (just) realized how far away the writer was from home./Because she (just) realized the writer was far from home. 22.
Living independently./Living independently has transformed the writer in many ways. 23.
The writer is experiencing growth./They prove the writer is experiencing growth. 24.
I prefer to go to a university far from my home. First, it helps me develop independence and learn to look after myself. Second, I can experience a new culture and make different friends from all over the country./I prefer to study at a university near my home. First, I can easily go back home to stay with my parents whenever I have free time. Second, I don’t need to worry about life problems and can focus more on my studies.
【导语】本文讲述了作者离开家乡去外州读大学后经历的孤独与成长,学会了独立面对挑战,并认识到感到低落是正常的成长过程。

Over the weekend, I met up with a friend for lunch. It would be an hour before he arrived. Thinking that I had enough time to clean the kitchen and take a shower, I suddenly realized I was running late.
Everyone has thought, “This will only take a few minutes,” only to realize an hour later that they’re not on time. Or maybe your to-do list seems impossible to finish. This could be a sign of being a time optimist.
A time optimist is someone who usually underestimates (低估) how long something takes, and overestimates how much time they actually have. They often say yes to more than they can manage, confident that they can “fit it all in”. They delay (拖延) until the last minute, believing there is still plenty of time. Although they are used to underestimating, they are confused when they fall behind.
If you are a time optimist, you often rush through the days, leave tasks unfinished, and feel regretful. In light of these clear downsides (弊端), why do so many people become time optimists Human psychology (心理学) offers several explanations:
The planning problem. We often underestimate the time it will take to complete a future task, even when we have a history of similar tasks taking longer. Most of the time, we focus on the ideal (理想的) path to completion, without considering possible problems.
Poor memory of past tasks. Our brains are surprisingly good at forgetting boring, slow, or messy middle parts of tasks. As a result, tasks appear to be completed faster than they actually are.
Sense of self and self-worth. Some people believe that being busy means being important. A full timetable can seem like a sign of importance. If they say they need more time or that a task is more challenging than they thought, they may feel weak.
Do you want to feel less stressed and more productive Be honest about the time it takes to get things done. Using that truth as your guide, build your days.
1.What is a time optimist
2.What are the downsides of being a time optimist
3.Why do tasks appear to be completed faster than they actually are
4.Give two suggestions to time optimists and explain them.
【答案】1.A time optimist is someone who usually underestimates how long something takes, and overestimates how much time they actually have. 2.A time optimist often rushes through the days, leaves tasks unfinished, and feels regretful. 3.Because our brains are good at forgetting boring, slow, or messy middle parts of tasks. 4.Suggestion 1: Be honest about how long tasks really take. Keep a timetable for daily tasks, so you can learn from past records instead of guessing. Suggestion 2: Add extra time for unexpected problems. When planning, double your estimated time to deal with delays like interruptions or mistakes.(答案不唯一)
【导语】本文主要介绍了“时间乐观主义者”的含义、弊端及成因,并建议诚实评估时间。
1.第三段第一句明确给出定义“A time optimist is someone who usually underestimates how long something takes, and overestimates how much time they actually have”,直接提取信息。
2.第四段第一句指出了弊端“If you are a time optimist, you often rush through the days, leave tasks unfinished, and feel regretful”,直接提取相关信息。
3.第六段第二句给出了原因“Our brains are surprisingly good at forgetting boring, slow, or messy middle parts of tasks”,答案几乎是原文引述。
4.最后一段给出核心建议“Be honest about the time it takes…build your days.”,结合前文提到的“planning problem”和“poor memory”,可延伸出具体做法。本题是开放性试题,答案不唯一,合理即可,需有解释。

Today, traveling isn’t just about visiting new places—it’s about how you explore them. In recent years, two travel styles have become especially popular among young people: checklist tourism and city walks. Both attract curious minds and adventurous hearts, but their pace (节奏) and ways of experiencing a city are completely different.
Checklist tourism refers to a style of travel where travelers often rush from one attraction to the next. They just tick off names on a list rather than truly experiencing a place. Travelers who follow this style plan every minute of their day. They wake up before sunrise, take early trains, and try to visit as many famous spots as possible in a single day. A typical trip might include watching the sunrise on a mountain, rushing to a museum before lunch, visiting night markets, and catching a midnight bus. Every second counts. Travelers enjoy the challenges, the sense of pushing their limits, and the teamwork involved. However, this kind of travel can be tiring, and it often leaves little room for discovery, rest, or meaningful connection with local culture.
However, a city walk is slow, peaceful, and full of discovery. City walkers don’t follow strict checklists—they walk freely through neighborhoods, guided by curiosity. They might stop at a small café for coffee, listen to street musicians, or take photos of interesting street art. City walks help you experience a city through its sounds, smells, and people. You may meet friendly locals, discover hidden bookshops, or notice how sunlight falls on old buildings. The focus is less on sightseeing but more on feeling the spirit of a place.
So which is better There’s no clear answer. Checklist tourism suits those who love excitement, speed, and adventure—especially if they only have a short holiday but want to see as much as possible. A city walk is perfect for those who prefer peaceful moments and want to connect deeply with a city’s culture.
Whether you’re rushing through sights or walking slowly through streets, both travel styles help you step out of your comfort zone and see the world with fresh eyes. In the end, the best journey isn’t just about where you go, but how you experience it.
1.What does checklist tourism refer to
2.How do city walks help you experience a city
3.What can both travel styles help you do
4.Which travel style do you prefer, checklist tourism or a city walk Why (Please give two reasons.)
【答案】1.It refers to a style of travel where travelers often rush from one attraction to the next. /They just tick off names on a list rather than truly experiencing a place. /Travelers who follow this style plan every minute of their day. (达意即可得分,允许语言表达方式多样化) 2.City walks help you experience a city through its sounds, smells, and people. 3.They can help you step out of your comfort zone and see the world with fresh eyes. 4.I prefer a city walk. First, it allows me to slow down and deeply connect with the local culture of a city, which can bring me more meaningful and unforgettable travel memories. Second, it is more relaxing and less tiring, so I can fully enjoy the trip without rushing to different attractions all the time.
【导语】本文对比了打卡式旅游和城市漫步两种旅行方式的不同特点、适合人群,并指出没有优劣之分,旅行的关键不在于去哪里,而在于怎样去体验。
1.第二段明确指出“refers to a style of travel where travelers often rush from one attraction to the next”,“just tick off names on a list rather than truly experiencing a place”,“plan every minute of their day”,这是原文的信息,答案直接提取。
2.第三段明确指出“City walks help you experience a city through its sounds, smells, and people”,答案是原文直接信息。
3.最后一段明确指出“step out of your comfort zone and see the world with fresh eyes”,这是原文的信息,答案直接提取。
4.本题是开放性试题,答案不唯一,答出任何一种方式皆可。结合文章内容和自己的看法、理由,合理作答即可。

(2026·北京朝阳·一模)阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
You don’t have to give up sugar or run a marathon to see real changes in your health and happiness. Instead, science supports a “start small” way. Small actions that are done regularly are what create long-lasting changes.
The secret It’s not willpower. It’s not even goals. The best way to turn a small change into a powerful habit is not to focus on your motivation (动力), your reasons for doing it, or your long-term goals.
That is what everyone thinks, but research has shown that making small changes to the environment, the situation in which you perform the behavior, is far more powerful. Goals aren’t bad; they certainly have a purpose, but “motivation” only lasts for so long. Habits need to be two things to stick to: easy and enjoyable.
For example, do you think your goal of getting back into the jeans you wore two years ago will encourage you to hit the gym every day Probably not. What will, then Choosing a gym that is close to your house, preferably less than 5 kilometers away, is the most important consideration for keeping a regular exercise habit, according to our research. Even better if you are doing an activity you really enjoy or meeting a good friend there.
The best part is that once these tiny changes take root (扎根), they add up to better sleep, stronger bodies, calmer feelings and a clearer mind.
Just as small drops make a big ocean, small, regular habits can lead to great health improvements. As a result, these changes are more likely to last because they come from doing the same things again and again, not from a short time of hard work.
Start now by choosing one or two of these small habits that suit you. Once you feel confident with these, add similar habits for even greater benefits.
Instead of trying to change everything or forcing yourself to do something you hate, focus on two questions: How can I make it easy to do And how can I make it enjoyable That’s how you change your life, one small change at a time.
1.What can create long-lasting changes
2.What kind of habits are easy to stick to
3.Why are these changes likely to last
4.What small habit do you have for better health or daily life, and why does it work for you (Please give two reasons.)

Imagine you are at a birthday party. There are lots of candies laid out on the table and you can help yourself to whatever you want. You eat lots of chocolate! Later that evening, you begin to feel sick. You think to yourself, “I wish I had stopped eating sooner.”
People often compare what actually happened in life to what could have happened. When what actually happened is worse than what could have happened, then people can feel regret. Regret is something that lots of people experience. We can have big regrets, like not working harder at school or we can have small regrets, like picking the longer queue at lunch. Regret is so common and unpleasant that researchers have spent a lot of time trying to understand it.
In a famous study, researchers asked lots of people to describe a time when they experienced regret. Interestingly, when people were asked about recent regrets, they often mentioned things they did, like making an embarrassing joke. But when people were asked what they regretted over their whole lives, they usually mentioned things they did not do, like not spending enough time with friends and family.
Other studies also showed something special about regret: People seldom felt regret for things they could not change. This suggests that feeling responsible for an outcome is necessary to experience regret. When people feel regret, they think “if only I had acted differently, things would be better!” Researchers believe regret might play a special role in helping people to understand where a decision went wrong and how they can do better next time.
In summary, regret often helps people make better decisions and learn from their mistakes. However, sometimes regret is not helpful. People who spend lots of time thinking about the things they regret report feeling less satisfied with their lives. With this in mind, it is important to avoid getting too caught up in past regrets. Instead, focus on the present and try to make the best possible decisions in the future!
1.When do people feel regret according to the passage
2.What did people mention when being asked what they regretted over their whole lives
3.What is necessary to experience regret
4.Share one thing you regret in your own life. How will you do better next time (List two ways.)
【答案】1.When what actually happened is worse than what could have happened. 2.They usually mentioned things they did not do, like not spending enough time with friends and family. 3.Feeling responsible for an outcome. 4.I regret not studying hard enough last term. I will make a study plan every day and review lessons on time.
【导语】本文阐释遗憾的产生情形、相关研究结论,说明遗憾的作用并告诫不必过度沉溺过往遗憾。

(2026·北京昌平·一模)阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
In June 2025, people talked about an event in which foxes moved onto a rooftop in central London. The roof belongs to a large new office building, but it is not a normal one—this rooftop is a 300-meter-long garden. Built with 40,000 tons of soil and 250 trees, this space shows how modern buildings can include nature.
Such roofs are called “biodiverse (生物多样的) green roofs.” Unlike common roofs, they support different native plants and create living spaces for wildlife. These plants attract bees, butterflies, and other small animals. In this way, biodiverse roofs help bring nature back to the city. Expert Chris Roddick calls them “a real lifeline for biodiversity.” The foxes proved that if you create the right environment, nature will come.
Since early 2024, the UK has had a new rule called Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG). It requires new building projects to improve biodiversity by at least 10%. This has helped the UK catch up with countries like Germany, where one in ten flat roofs is already green.
Green roofs also help create “pollinator corridors (传粉者走廊).” Butterflies and other pollinators can only fly short distances to find food. If green spaces are too far apart, insect groups can become separated. “Having even small green rooftop spaces means pollinators can move from roof to roof, helping them spread and survive,” says Roddick.
The benefits of green roofs go beyond helping wildlife. Not only do they make buildings look better and keep them warmer in winter and cooler in summer, but they also help reduce noise—something especially helpful for schools and hospitals. Additionally, some green roofs have “blue roofs” under them that collect rainwater and reduce flooding risk.
In the end, the foxes will still have to leave when the building opens to 7,000 workers. But the green roof will stay, providing a home for insects and birds. As more cities add green roofs, our urban environments can become greener and more wildlife-friendly for everyone.
1.What event does the writer use to show that modern buildings can include nature
2.What does the UK’s new rule require building projects to do
3.How do green roofs help create “pollinator corridors”, according to Roddick
44.Describe a place or a thing in your neighborhood that helps improve biodiversity.
How is it different or similar to the idea in the passage (Please give two points.)
【答案】1.Foxes moved onto a rooftop garden in central London in June 2025. 2.To improve biodiversity by at least 10%. 3.
By providing small green rooftop spaces that allow pollinators to move from roof to roof, helping them spread and survive. 44.
In my neighborhood, there is a community park with many trees and flowers. Similarity: Both provide living spaces for wildlife, such as birds and insects. Difference: The park is on the ground, while the green roof is on top of a building.
1.文中明确提到“In June 2025, people talked about an event that foxes moved onto a rooftop in central London.”,因此作者用“狐狸搬进伦敦市中心的屋顶花园”这一事件,说明现代建筑可以融入自然。
2.文中提到“Since early 2024, the UK has had a new rule called Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG). It requires new building projects to improve biodiversity by at least 10%.”,因此英国新规要求新建建筑项目将生物多样性提高至少10%。
3.文中引用专家Chris Roddick的话:“Having even small green rooftop spaces means pollinators can move from roof to roof, helping them spread and survive.”,说明绿色屋顶通过为传粉者提供连续的栖息地,帮助它们在屋顶间移动、扩散和生存,从而形成传粉者走廊。
In my neighborhood, there is a community park with many trees and flowers. School Life Made Easier
Making school life simpler and more convenient is becoming a reality with the use of technology, especially in China where many schools are using inventions like AI.
One example is a school in Tianjin, which uses a smart campus (校园) system (系统) from a tech company. In classes, students get hands-on experience using simulation (模拟) devices and VR glasses, exploring rocket launches and the structure inside rockets through fun and interactive (互动的) learning. Similarly, in swimming classes, “By wearing smart earphones, they can receive real-time instructions from the coach underwater, making sure it’s safe, ” Li Rui, the school’s vice-principal, told CCTV.
At a school in Anhui, technology is improving PE classes. Self-testing tools with AI visual analysis (可视化分析) technology are used for activities like running, jumping, sit-ups, and skipping rope. A facial recognition system records students’ faces, allowing them to receive performance results immediately after each exercise. “Before, when I threw the shot put (铅球), the teacher had to use a ruler to measure the distance. Now, the results are produced automatically (自动地). You can also see which parts of your exercise need improvements, with the teacher then helping to guide you to make those improvements, ” said Wu Shengguo from the school.
Besides China, smart campus technologies are getting popularity. A university in Australia uses an app, allowing students to visualize the human heart in 3D.This tool helps students understand the heart’s different parts and blood flow.
Universities worldwide are also using AI to create helpful digital assistants (助手). A college in the UK introduced a chat robot. It provides students with information about attendance records, courses, and class timetables, making it easier for students to manage their school lives.
Smart campuses are not just about “smart” learning;they are changing how students learn, study, and interact with their schools. These technologies are making education more interesting and convenient for students all over the world.
1.What technology does the school in Tianjin use from the tech company
2.When can students at the school in Anhui receive performance results in PE classes

When we are at school, we all want to get better at studying. Before quizzes, exams, or projects, preparing well is always important. But what’s the best way to study Should we sit alone in a quiet place, or study with friends
Studying alone can mean different things—like sitting quietly in a library or a table with headphones. This way of studying has both good and bad points. The biggest advantages are fewer distractions (分心), setting your own pace and better focus. When you’re alone, you don’t have to talk to others, so you can focus only on your work. You can take breaks when you feel tired, or read at a speed that’s comfortable for you. This is helpful because no one knows your learning needs better than you. Also, studying alone lets you spend more time on topics you find hard and less time on things you already understand well. However, studying alone has a problem: without friends around, it’s easy to get off task. Even good students might waste hours on their phones or watching videos without noticing. Friends can push you to stay focused, but you don’t get that when you’re alone.
Studying in groups (usually 2-5 people) also has pros and cons. Group study helps you remember things better. When you explain ideas to others, you remember them more easily. You can also learn more from your friends—everyone brings different knowledge to the group. The best part is that friends can keep you motivated. When others are studying, you’re less likely to get distracted, and you can work harder together. But groups have drawbacks too. The group can only be as productive as the least focused person. If one person is noisy, checks his phone a lot, or talks about other things, it can ruin the study time for everyone.
Everyone learns differently, so the best study method is the one that works for you. You might need to try both alone and group study to find out what helps you most. For me, group study is better. I feel less stressed, and my friends keep me on track. When I study alone, I sometimes end up watching videos online for an hour without realizing it! Both methods have good and bad sides, so it’s up to you to choose what helps you succeed.
1.What is always important before quizzes, exams, or projects
2.What are the biggest advantages when you study alone
3.Why can people learn more from their friends in group study
4.Do you want to study alone or study in groups Why (Give two reasons.)
【答案】1.Preparing well is always important. 2.The biggest advantages are fewer distractions, setting your own pace and better focus. 3.Because everyone brings different knowledge to the group. 4.I want to study in groups. Because group study helps me remember things better and my friends can keep me motivated.
【导语】本文主要介绍了独自学习和小组学习两种学习方式,分别分析了它们的优点和缺点,指出每个人的学习方式不同,最好的学习方法是适合自己的那一种。

In any room, you can feel it before you see it—the person whose presence lights things up. It’s not about their titles or reputation. It’s energy, a kind of force that pulls people in, makes them want to help, stay, and believe. That’s the real force that moves things.
The difference between energy and ability is that ability can be taught, while energy must be developed. You can copy someone’s skills, but not their heart. You copy their methods, but miss the thing that makes those methods work—their inner state.
Energy is built through intention (意图), character, and the way we treat others. High-energy people don’t just work hard—they believe, they uplift, they inspire. That’s what people remember, and that’s what they follow.
People, events, and environments are always interacting and influencing one another. You draw into your lives what mirrors your inner state. If you’re open-hearted, the world answers in kind, but if you’re self-doubting, life starts to mirror that back at you. The energy you carry is what you send out. And what you attract is not accidental. Everything you experience is related to the energy you carry. As your inner alignment (一致) is improved, you’ll notice that certain people or problems quietly fall away. The right ones will find you. Your outer reality will catch up with your inner state.
Basically, energy is where action, clearness, and creativity come from. When your energy is full, wisdom follows. You don’t have to force your way forward—life begins to answer in kind.
So how do you raise your personal energy Not through willpower, but through deep self-tending (自我维护).
Energy doesn’t come from a crowded to-do list—it comes from alignment. When your actions align with your values, when your rest matches your effort, when your environment feeds rather than drains (耗尽) you, that’s when energy increases.
You raise your energy not by chasing more, but by throwing out what’s draining you. Are you always reacting to messages, or do you protect quiet time Do your relationships make you more complete, or emptier
High-energy people are calm and quietly powerful. They build an inner life that’s energetic, stable (稳定的) and self-respecting.
When you become a high-energy person, you stop chasing and start attracting. That quiet power is the force the world remembers.
1.How are ability and energy different
2.What do people draw into their lives
3.What kind of inner life do high-energy people build
4.Read Amy’s words and answer the questions.
Amy: I care a lot about my health, but I often stay up very late. I always think my classmates are better than me, so I’m afraid to express myself in class. In my mind, if I make mistakes, they’ll laugh at me.
Do you think Amy is a low-energy or high-energy person What advice can you give her to help raise her low energy or keep her high energy Explain why this piece of advice is helpful.
【答案】1.The difference between energy and ability is that ability can be taught, while energy must be developed. 2.People draw into their lives what mirrors their inner state. 3.They build an inner life that’s energetic, stable and self-respecting. 4.I think Amy is a low-energy person. I advise her to stop staying up late and protect her quiet time. Because the passage says energy comes from alignment, and when your rest matches your effort, your energy increases. Staying up late drains her energy, while quiet time helps her improve inner alignment and raise energy. Besides, I advise her to be confident and stop doubting herself, because self-doubt makes life mirror back negative things, and being open-hearted can attract positive energy.

The Library With No Rules
When you walk by Hernando Guanlao’s home on Balagtas Street, downtown Manila, you will see thousands of books on shelves and on the stairs. Each one is free to anyone who wants it.
“People can borrow, take home, bring back or keep,” says Guanlao. “Or they can share and pass on to another. But basically they should just take, take!” He thinks books need to live, and they’re only alive if they are being read. “The act of giving books makes your life meaningful,” says Guanlao.
The Reading Club 2000, as the project is called, began more than twenty years ago. “My parents gave me my love of reading,” he says. “I started the club to honour them and to do some kind of community service. So I put my old books—and my brothers’ and sisters’, maybe 100 in all—outside, to see if anyone was interested.”
It took a while for people to work out that this was a library. It never closed and there were no rules in it. But the project, offering everything from paperbacks to fashion magazines, technical boaks and school textbooks, is becoming popular.
The success of the project is helped by the fact that the country, with a population of 92 million, has fewer than 700 public libraries, and many people cannot afford to buy books. Luckily, the project is spreading. Guanlao takes boxes of books into—Manila’s neighbourhoods himself. He has also helped friends set up similar projects in ten other places around the country, and encouraged students to donate (捐赠) books.
Aurora Verayo, from a town several hours’ drive from Manila, says she came to see Guanlao to donate books, but he encouraged her to open her own library. “I’m going a step further and offering reading activities for children,” she says. Mark, 16-year-old student, is organizing a book donation with friends. “We’ve collected.” he says, “We’re taking them to some poor books so far, and we expect many more, areas next month. Books open minds. A book can take you anywhere.”
1.What does Guanlao think of books
2.Why did Guanlao start the Reading Club 2000
3.What was special about Guanlao’s library
4.What do you think of the Reading Club 2000 Why do you think so (List at least two reasons)
【答案】1.He thinks books need to live, and they’re only alive if they are being read. 2.To honour his parents and to do some kind of community service. 3.It never closed and there were no rules in it. 4.It is great. Have you ever wondered why your pocket money runs out so quickly Have you ever regretted spending your birthday money on snacks or online games when you could have saved up to buy something you really wanted instead If so, making a budget is a great way to take control of your money.
To put it simply, a budget is a plan that helps us decide how to earn (挣钱), save and spend our money. Making a budget can help you to stretch (延长使用) your money further, so it’s easier to save up for more expensive items like a computer, new trainers or a bike. It’s a good idea to make a budget now because it’ll help you manage your money better and be ready for bigger expenses in the future.
Some people don’t make a budget because they think it’s too much trouble or they don’t see the point. They feel it’s hard to keep a record of every cent, or they believe they can control their money without a plan. But without a budget, it’s easy to lose track of your spending. You might spend all your pocket money on snacks and have nothing left for the new book you want. Or you might buy lots of little things you don’t really need, instead of saving for something important.
To start making a budget, pick up a pen and paper. First, write down the money you earn. This could be your pocket money, plus anything extra that you earn for helping out with small tasks. This is your “income (收入)”. Next, write down the money you spend regularly. Maybe you buy snacks every day after school or new clothes each month. This is called your “outgoings (支出)”. When you subtract (减去) your outgoings from your income, you’ll see how much you have left over to save or spend.
It’s wise to save some of this money, especially if you would like to buy something special. Your budget will help you see how much you can afford to save each week and how long it will take to reach your goal. You might then decide to spend less on snacks so that you can save a little extra. Or think about ways that you could earn a little more so that you can reach your goal faster.
1.What is a great way to take control of your money
2.Why is it a good idea to make a budget now
3.What will you see when you subtract your outgoings from your income
4.Would you like to make your budget Why or why not (Please give at least two reasons.)
【答案】1.Making a budget is a great way to take control of our money. / Making a budget. 2.Because it’ll help us manage our money better and be ready for bigger expenses in the future. 3.We’ll see how much we have left over to save or spend. 4.Yes, I would. First, it helps me save money for things I really want. Second, it teaches me how to manage my money better. (答案不唯一)
【导语】本文介绍了制定预算是控制金钱的好方法,因为它有助于更充分地利用金钱、更好地管理钱财,并为未来更大的开支做好准备。

Playing Out
In recent years, a movement called “Playing Out” has become popular.
