Can a pile of poop (一坨大便) save a forest It sounds funny, but for the African forest elephant, their poop can be a real life-saver!
These elephants live deep in the rainforest. They are smaller than their cousins—African savanna elephants (非洲草原象), but they have a big mission: keeping the forest growing. Their favourite snack is the fruit from the ebony tree (乌木树). You might have seen ebony wood on a fancy guitar. This wood is very hard and helps guitars make a clear sound.
But the ebony tree has a problem. It cannot spread its seeds by itself. That’s where the elephant comes to help. After an elephant eats the fruit, it walks far, far away and…plop (扑通一声)! It poops out the seeds in a new place.
This pile of poop is like a smelly shield (盾,屏障). It hides the seeds from hungry rats and other animals. Inside the poop, the seeds are safe and ready to grow.
Sadly, these “gardeners” are in trouble because of hunters. Without elephants, there are no poop shields. This means fewer ebony trees can grow. Ebony trees grow very slowly. It takes over 100 years for one to become an adult. If forest elephants disappeared, the ebony trees might disappear, too. As scientists say, what we do to the elephants today will change the forest 100 years from now. Let’s protect our big heroes!

2.Where can you find ebony wood

5.Why is it hard for the ebony tree to grow Find two possible reasons in the article.

When traveling around the world, you’ll find that different countries have their own unique rules in daily life.
In Japan, taking the subway has its own set of norms (准则). People line up neatly on the platform, waiting for the train to arrive. They are extremely quiet inside the subway cars. Eating and drinking are not allowed, as it helps to keep the environment clean and peaceful. Also, when using escalators, people usually stand on the left side in big cities like Tokyo, leaving the right side free for those in a hurry to walk up or down.
In Singapore, rules are strictly enforced (执行) in public places. In restaurants, it’s common to see signs reminding people to clear their tables after eating. This is to ensure that the staff can quickly clean up and prepare for the next customers. Littering is not tolerated (容忍) at all. If you are caught dropping even a small piece of paper on the street, you could face a hefty (高额) fine.
In the United Kingdom, on the roads, cars drive on the left-hand side. Pedestrians also need to be aware of this and look right first when crossing the road. When visiting a local British pub, it’s a rule that you need to order and pay for your drinks at the bar. You can’t expect a waiter to come to your table to take your order like in some other countries.

Should AI replace (代替) real actors
Hollywood (好莱坞) is surprised by an AI program called Sora. Type in what you want to watch, and it creates (创造) a video one minute long from your texts. This is possible because the program has been fed thousands of hours of videos.
As AI develops, making films becomes easy. Filmmakers only need to write down their ideas and AI will create films. This will make it much cheaper to make films. It is said AI could reduce (减少) the cost of a film by 90%.
Actors in the U.S. are afraid their jobs will be replaced by AI. However, according to Avatar director (《阿凡达》导演), AI actors may never recreate the emotions that humans can. Many scientists think AI can’t be truly creative because AI creates “new” things from the data (数据) and there is no imagination (想象) so films will become similar over time.

The fox quickly picked it up and was about to run away. Just then, the crow realized she had been tricked. She shouted angrily, “You are a bad fox! Give my cheese back!”

The young people’s mental health charity Place 2 Be has made “My Voice Matters” the theme of this year’s Children’s Mental Health Week. The event took place at schools and online to encourage children to speak up about their feelings.
What does it mean to speak up It means saying your thoughts and feelings and being ready to hear what others think and feel. Speaking up is not about shouting the loudest. In fact, you don’t even have to talk. You can show what you like, don’t like, or what you want by writing or drawing, says Dr. Clements, who works for the charity. “It’s about finding ways to share what’s important to you,” she explains.
How can you find your voice Dr. Clements suggests practicing talking with friends, parents, or people who take care of you. If it’s hard to say how you feel, find a way that’s right for you. Many people like eating out now because they are busy and they don’t have enough time to cook at home. They usually go to the clean, bright and comfortable restaurants.
There is a new place to eat in Paris, and it’s full every night. The chairs are small and the table cloths aren’t very clean, but many people in Paris have to wait for a long time to eat there because they think eating there is a different experience.
The restaurant is in total darkness. There’s no light in the restaurant and the dinner is served by blind waiters. The customers (顾客) can’t see what their food looks like. They have to feel for their knives, forks and glasses on the table. The earlier idea was to help people understand what it’s like to be blind. It’s also shown that strangers become more open with each other when they get together in the dark. “The customers who arrived on this Friday night, for example, looked shy and nervous at first, but by the time they left 90 minutes later, many were more open with each other and became good friends,” said the owner. “Where’s the wine ” asked someone. “Oh, no, I’ve knocked it over!” came the reply. “Oh, no, I’ve dropped my fork!” said another. The sound of laughing filled the restaurant.
Before each dinner begins, the owner explains the rules. “Please don’t light a match or use your cigarette lighters. If you have any problem with the darkness, ask one of the waiters for help.” Then the blind waiters show the customers the way to their tables. They play the roles in looking after the customers after each dinner begins.
