As a student at China Agricultural University, I’ve had the opportunity to visit many remote villages for fieldwork. Across China’s vast land, I’ve seen young people working the land, offering their energy and making a difference.
This sense of purpose became even more concrete this May, when I joined Shigeqintian to film an episode of Become a Farmer alongside team member Lu Zhuo. Together, we worked in a rice field, moving young plants from one place to another and experiencing firsthand the effort and dedication behind every harvest.
Lu shared the difficulties the team faced during their trip to Qinghai — severe sickness caused by high places, limited access to water and electricity, and suffering from heavy colds. What the audience didn’t see on-screen was the extremely large hardship behind the scenes. Yet, despite these obstacles, their primary goal remained unchanged: using their platform to turn short-term attention into lasting benefits for local farmers. This commitment touched me deeply. The initiative invited university students to conduct research in rural areas, where I met young entrepreneurs(创业者) who had returned to their hometowns after years in the city.
One of them was 32-year-old Liao Zhiteng, a local from Guangxi who returned in 2021 to found a cultural tourism company. Liao gathered local youth to help farmers sell specialty agricultural products, while also teaming with universities and social organizations to unlock the village’s cultural tourism potential. Together, they were united by a common goal: to “enrich the land”.
With our initial research in Guangxi now complete, our group is designing cultural tour routes for the villages we studied. Though physically exhausted, we are filled with excitement and anticipation for what lies ahead. Cognitive (认知) “speed training” can reduce the risk of a dementia (痴呆) diagnosis by 25 per cent That’s according to results from the world’s first randomly controlled trial of any intervention against the condition.
“There was a lot of doubt about whether or not brain training interventions were beneficial, and to me, our study answers the question that they are,” says Marilyn Albert at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. Brain training has generated controversy for years.
A 20-year study of 2832 people aged 65 and older suggests specific exercises may offer benefits. The participants were assigned by chance to one of three intervention groups or to a control group. One group engaged in speed training, using a computer-based task called Double Decision, which briefly displays a car and a road sign within a scene before they disappear. Participants must then recall which car appeared and where the sign was located. The task is adaptive, becoming harder as performance improves.
The other two groups took part in memory or reasoning training, learning strategies designed to improve those skills. The participants completed two 60-75-minute sessions per week for five weeks. About half of those in each group were then divided at random to receive booster sessions – four additional 1-hour sessions at the end of the first year, and another four at the end of the third year.
Twenty years later, the researchers found that those who completed speed training with booster sessions had a 25 per cent lower risk of diagnosis with Alzheimer’s, a common type of dementia, or other related diseases compared with the control group. No other group, including speed training without boosters, showed a significant change in risk. “The size of the effect is really quite astonishing,” says Albert. “The analysis seems strict,” says Torkel Klingberg at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden. “It is impressive to have a 20-year follow-up, and reducing the risk score for dementia is an impressive and important result.”

Moltbook, a social network where only AI can post and no humans allowed, has made headlines around the world. Chatbots are using it to discuss humans’ diary entries, describe crises connected with human existence. It looks like an alarming development in the rise of the machines , but all is not as it seems.
Like any chatbots, the AI agents on Moltbook are just creating statistically reasonable strings of words. There is no understanding, intent or intelligence. And in any case, there’s plenty of evidence that much of what we can read on the site is actually written by humans.
The very short history of Moltbook dates back to an open-source project launched in November, originally called Clawdbot, then renamed OpenClaw.
OpenClaw is like other AI services such as ChatGPT, but instead of being hosted in the cloud, it runs on your own computer. Except it doesn’t. The software uses an API key—a username and password unique to a certain user .In short, OpenClaw acts like an AI model, but the actual AI nuts and bolts (核心算法) are provided by a third-party AI service.
So what’s the point Well, as the OpenClaw software lives on your machine, you can give it access to anything you want: calendars, web browsers, email, local files or social networks. It also stores all your history locally, allowing it to learn from you. The idea is that it becomes your AI assistant and you trust it with access to your machine so it can actually get things done.
It is said that the phenomenon of rapidly accelerating progress will lead to artificial general intelligence, which either lifts humanity to transcendental heights of efficiency and advancement, or removes us completely. However, “It’s hype (炒作),” says Mark Lee at the University of Birmingham, UK. “This isn’t generative AI agents acting with their own agency. It’s LLMs (Large Language Models) with instructions and scheduled APIs to engage with Moltbook.
