Many sea animals depend on specific routes (路线) to migrate (迁徙). The routes offer these sea travelers the right conditions to guide them through the oceans. Humans try to discover the routes and have drawn their own lines, but they are not clear because of unexpected changes in nature.
To find out the routes that sea animals often take, some scientists in Australia and the US have now created a special map that shows the ways connecting ocean habitats (栖息地).
The new map, named the Migratory Connectivity in the Ocean (MiCO), collects data (数据) and makes it easier for scientists to see where sea animals may follow these ways. The database (数据库) includes information on 109 animals, based on around 30 years of data, and shows where they are going to and from.
“MiCO connects almost 2,000 important habitats and shows the importance of cross-country (跨国的) teamwork,” says the research team. They find that all of the animals recorded in MiCO face less protection at some point because of different national rules. That means no country is able to fully protect migratory animals if there is no help from others. “For example, green turtles lay their eggs in Costa Rica and then travel north to Nicaragua,” the team says. “They are well protected in Costa Rica, but in Nicaragua, people are allowed to catch them, and many die there every year.”
MiCO works to provide useful knowledge on migratory connectivity (连通性) to help protect sea animals. In 2023, a UN report found climate (气候) changes are harming migratory animals. MiCO catches the information from different times and the team hopes it may be used to tell those changes in connectivity. MiCO is also expected to collect information on more migratory sea animals because there is less than one-third of data collected now.
“So far, the migratory information shown within the MiCO system only touches the surface of the true connectivity of the world’s oceans,” the team says.

C.To show the importance of cross-country teamwork.
D.To prove the harm in fishing for migratory animals.
29.Which of the following can be the data MiCO collects
A.Over 10 laws are made on the protection of sea animals.
B.There are mainly 3 kinds of elephants living on Earth.
C.Gray whales travel about 16,000 km from the Arctic Ocean to Mexico.
D.More than 10,000 tourists visit the whale shark habitat in South Africa.

Many people think wildlife protection is just about caring for animals. But Huang Hongxiang says this is wrong. He is a 38-year-old wildlife protector with 13 years of experience. 31
Huang explains: human activities are the main reasons to make animals endangered, such as illegal (非法的) hunting and destroying (毁坏) nature. 32 So wildlife protection is more about dealing with humans, not animals.

They report the trade to local officials and use social media to teach people about the problem. Thanks to their efforts, many pangolins have been saved.
Huang also organizes study programs for teenagers. 34 It is not easy or exciting. He also hopes teenagers can be better prepared to help the world if they know the challenges early.

Around the world, people are more and more worried about the environment. Many people now prefer products and companies (公司) that care about the earth and cause less pollution. This need for green products has led large companies to change their business.
Before, customers used cheap plastic bags, and then threw them away. But now most supermarkets and stores usually provide reusable shopping bags for them. This causes less waste. They also provide more local products, because more energy is saved for carrying them from one place to another.
To help lower air pollution, big car factories are looking for other ways to control the amount (数量) of oil. Cars that use much less oil are very popular. Many companies are also developing fully electric cars.
They produce no air pollution at all. Both kinds of cars have another advantage: They are cheaper to run and people don’t need to worry about oil prices.
The airline companies race an even greater green challenge. Airplanes use much more oil than cars. So many airlines are now developing planes that can run on some other kinds of oil. They create less pollution and cost less. The companies are also developing a new kind of planes, and some of them use only solar panels (太阳能板) to fly!

With the launch of the world’s first three-fold smart phones, the development of mobile phones has entered a new era. There’s no doubt that mobile phones have been an important part in our daily life now.
The first mobile phone was invented by an American called Martin Cooper in 1973. And it has influenced people’s life a lot since it was invented. First, it’s more convenient to communicate with others by using mobile phones. Second, people are used to taking photos with mobile phones instead of cameras. And we can even go shopping, listen to music and watch movies on the phone. Third, we can easily learn something useful by surfing online. In this way, it helps us study.
In my opinion, we teenagers should be allowed to use mobile phones, but not on weekdays. And it’s necessary for us to use them in the right way with the help of our teachers and parents.
