One day last month, Antony Aumann, a college professor in the US, was grading essays (论文). While he was reading the “best paper in the class,” a red “warning” flag suddenly went up. Later, Aumann asked the student whether he had written the essay himself. The student shook his head. He admitted to using ChatGPT, a chatbot (聊天机器人) that can answer questions as well as write emails, poems and essays.
Since AI lab OpenAI introduced ChatGPT in November 2022, it has enjoyed huge popularity. Students are using it to do their homework for them. All over the world, professors like Aumann are redesigning their courses. Some have decided to include more oral exams and handwritten papers. Gone are tasks like “write five pages on this or that.” Instead, professors are designing questions that they hope will be too clever for chatbots. Some are asking students to write about their own lives.
Many schools, however, are unwilling to ban the use of ChatGPT altogether. They are, instead, treating it the way they treat calculators (计算器). In the first place, they don’t believe a ban would be effective. Students will find ways to use ChatGPT if they want to. Moreover, ChatGPT is unlikely to be the last technological development of their kind. Rather than stay away from them, students and teachers should learn to make use of them. The University at Buffalo in New York, for example, has included a discussion of AI tools in its courses. The school is using it to teach students about being honest. It is also helping them to understand both the strengths and the weaknesses of chatbots.
Some students have started learning how to work with AI tools. Lizzie Shackney is a student at the University of Pennsylvania. She uses ChatGPT to quickly produce a large number of possibly useful ideas for her papers. She then thinks over these ideas and decides what to add in her papers and what to leave out. She always writes her papers herself. “With AI tools, I won’t have to spin (空转) my wheels,” she said. “But I’m also not going to depend on them to do everything for me.”
4.Professors have tried to stop students from using ChatGPT by asking them to ________.
A.write about their own lives.
B.write five pages on a certain topic.
C.write about the weaknesses of AI tools.
5.What is the attitude of the University at Buffalo towards AI tools
A.Against. B.Supportive. C.Afraid.
6.What has Lizzie Shackney been using ChatGPT to do
A.Write her papers for her.
B.Help her decide what to include in her papers.
C.Produce some possibly useful ideas for her papers.
7.The article is mainly about ________.
A.how students and teachers are dealing with AI tools
B.why using AI tools can probably be harmful to students
C.how students can understand the importance of being honest

Scientists have discovered the world’s largest field of sea grass. They did it using videos that had been taken by some unusual helpers: tiger sharks.
Sea grasses usually grow in shallow waters near coastlines. They grow in thick fields, known as meadows (草场). These sea grass meadows help to clean the ocean’s water, and provide food and shelter (居所) for many sea creatures. They are also a big help in the fight against climate change. That’s because they store huge amounts of carbon (碳). Carbon is making global warming worse. If these sea grass meadows are damaged, they will send this pollution back into the air.
Though they’re very important, scientists don’t have a good idea of the size and number of the world’s sea grass meadows. Trying to find these meadows from above the sea waters can be quite difficult. The world’s oceans are so large in size that it’s impossible to make a complete study of them by diving (潜水). So some scientists decided to have tiger sharks help with the research. These animals were chosen as research assistants because they spend lots of their time in and around sea grass meadows.
Researchers fixed cameras to the fins of seven tiger sharks. The sharks then carried the cameras and traveled for miles over the sea floor. The cameras were designed to fall off after a few hours and then float (浮) back up to the surface. The scientists find the cameras and collect the videos the sharks had taken.
The scientists learned that the waters around the Bahamas are home to the largest sea grass meadow ever discovered. The researchers say the meadow could be as large as 92,000 square kilometers. The discovery means that the world has about 40% more sea grass meadows than scientists had thought.
The project shows a powerful new way to explore the ocean. In other words, underwater animals can help us to learn more about life under the sea. Animals like tiger sharks are going to take us to new places that we didn’t even know.
8.What’s the value of sea grass meadows
A.They release carbon and pollute the ocean.
B.They provide food for sea creatures and store much carbon.
C.They produce drinking water for humans and reduce pollution.
9.Why did scientists choose tiger sharks
A.They often stay near sea grass meadows.
B.They can swim faster than any other fish.
C.They eat grass and know where to find it.
10.What does the discovery around the Bahamas mean
A.All sea grass meadows are over 90,000 square kilometers.
B.The world has more sea grass meadows than scientists expected.
C.It’s impossible to count sea grass meadows in other oceans.
11.Which sentence best describes the project’s meaning
A.It proves sharks are the smartest underwater animals.
B.It helps people understand why sharks need protection.
C.It shows underwater animals can help humans do research.

With the development of education, most students are having a better school life. It’s even believed that in the future, more and more students will enjoy their school days more fully. Here are five tips for a better school life.
1. Get to class on time!
Sure, it’s tempting (诱人的) to sleep in and be late. But teachers say you should always get to class on time. In the past, students had to walk a long way to school. They were always on time because they had no choice. Think about it: Do you have the same sense of responsibility as they did in the past
2. Study hard!
It’s important to study subjects that interest you, such as maths and science. Playing video games is not helpful for your studies. You should only do it once in a while. Spending too much time on the wrong activities will harm your grades.
3. ________
When we were young, we played with our neighbors. Teenagers do not need as many friends as when they were children, but it’s important to have a few good friends. At weekends, you’ve got more time, so use it not just for fun, but for making friends too.
4. Don’t be nervous. Be confident!
Many people believe that confidence is important for our success. Sometimes it is not easy to be a teenager because of the challenges of school, tests, or relationships. If you’re worried about something, talk to your parents or your teacher.
5. Say no to cheating!
Yes, you knew I was going to say this! It’s so important. Cheating is not smart. It is harmful. It harms your character and your future. Think about how your teachers and friends will feel, and think about what it will do to your reputation (名誉).
41.Why were the students in the past always on time

例文
Dear Mike,
How’s everything going I’m so happy to receive your letter and know that you’re interested in our school’s social practice activities.
Last month, I took part in a farm visit organized by our school. We learned to grow vegetables and feed animals there. Local farmers taught us how to care for plants and work as a team. Through this activity, I learned the value of hard work. I also understood the importance of cooperation when we helped each other finish tasks. This “walking classroom” taught me more than textbooks. It made me more patient and responsible, and I truly believe we learn best from real-life experiences.
Looking forward to your stories about your school life too! Hope to hear from you soon.
Yours,
Li Hua
