Liu Ziyu is a 16-year-old high school student living in a small quiet city. She was a lovely and healthy kid when she was little. Unluckily, a serious illness made her become deaf at the age of three. From then on, she could no longer hear beautiful music or people’s voices around her.
However, Liu Ziyu is strong-minded and never gives up herself or her dreams. With endless patience from her parents, special teachers and warm-hearted volunteers, she slowly learns to read lips and use simple sign language. Nowadays, voluntary work is becoming more and more popular among teenagers. It is not only a good way to enrich life experience, but also teaches students to love life and care for people around them. Last Sunday, our class took part in a well-organized charity voluntary activity in the nearby community. The main purpose was to help lonely elderly people and disabled people who live alone.
Early in the morning, all the students gathered at the community gate on time. After receiving simple instructions from community workers, we were divided into several small groups to finish different tasks. Some students cleaned rooms, washed windows and swept the floor for the elderly. Some helped buy daily necessities for disabled people who had difficulty walking. I joined the chatting group, sitting quietly with the lonely elders and listening patiently to their interesting stories about their young days.
During the whole activity, everything went on smoothly and everyone worked carefully. We didn’t get any money or expensive gifts at all. But when we saw the warm smiles on the elders’ faces, all of us felt full of joy and satisfaction. This special experience greatly influenced my understanding of volunteering.
In my opinion, voluntary work is really meaningful and educational for teenagers. It helps us learn to be patient, polite and thankful. It also makes us cherish our healthy bodies and pay more attention to people in need around us. From then on, I decide to take part in more voluntary work in my spare time and pass on warmth to more people.

Sunshine does not only come from the bright sky. It hides in small kind acts between strangers. Last winter, I experienced a warm story that taught me the true meaning of “sunshine for all”.
On a cold snowy afternoon, I waited for the bus at a lonely bus stop. The wind blew hard and few people were on the street. An elderly slow walker stood beside me. He carried a heavy paper bag and moved step by step with an old walking stick. The icy road made it hard for him to keep balance.
Nobody stopped for him at first. I worried he might fall down on the slippery road. Just as I planned to help him, a young bus driver did something touching. After he parked the bus, he got off quietly. He gently held the old man’s arm, helped him step slowly onto the bus and put his heavy bag in a safe corner.
The driver did not ask for praise. He just smiled softly and returned to his seat. On the bus, other passengers also gave up their seats to the weak people. The cold winter wind outside was still sharp, but the small bus was full of warmth.
This simple experience changed my idea of kindness. True sunshine lies in love, care and respect for every person, no matter how old or weak they are. Everyone needs warmth, and everyone can give warmth. When we share love with others, we make the world bright for all.
1. What was the weather like in the story
A. Rainy and warm B. Snowy and cold C. Windy and hot D. Foggy and cool

A. Offered their seats to the weak B. Took photos happily
C. Talked loudly D. Got off the bus quickly
5. What does “sunshine for all” mean in the passage
A. Bright sunlight on snowy days B. Kind warmth shared among people
C. Busy life in cold winter D. Safe and comfortable public buses

Nowadays, public smart devices bring great warmth to people in need in cities. More and more smart facilities serve the elderly and disabled people quietly on the street. These simple machines are designed to make public life easier and warmer.
Smart public benches are one of the most common facilities. Unlike common benches, they have solar panels on the top. On cold days, they can provide gentle heat for people sitting on them. They also offer free charging ports for mobile phones. Old people can rest comfortably and charge their phones when they walk outside.
Besides smart benches, smart voice signs are widely used in public areas. For blind people, it is hard to tell directions by eyes. The smart signs can give clear voice hints automatically. They tell people the road condition and nearby public places.
This kind of humanized technology shows the care of society. Small smart changes turn cold public equipment into warm gifts. Technology is not only fast and modern, but also full of love for every person. It is the best sunshine for all people.
