Dear Uncle Wang,
I am writing to tell you about my school life. Last month, our school held a “Volunteer Week”. Students could choose to help in different places: the old people’s home, the children’s hospital, the city library, or the community park. I chose to go to the old people’s home with some classmates.
On the first day, we cleaned the rooms and chatted with the old people. I met Grandma Zhang, who was 85 years old. She told me stories about her youth. I listened carefully and felt very touched. On the second day, we performed a short play for them. They laughed and clapped happily. On the third day, we taught them to use smartphones. They were very excited to see their children’s photos on the screen.
When the week ended, Grandma Zhang held my hand and said, “Thank you for staying with us. You made us feel young again.” I almost cried. I realized that small acts of kindness can bring great warmth to others. I have decided to go to the old people’s home every month from now on.
I think volunteering is not only about giving, but also about receiving. I received love and wisdom from the old people. I am very happy that I took part in this activity.

When I was 12 years old, I already knew that my teen years were going to be the worst years of my life. I was a total outsider. I felt completely alone in my small town. But by starting to do volunteer work when I was 14, I turned my problem into a passion for helping others. The opportunity to practise kindness made me feel like my life had a greater purpose. The more positive energy I shared, the more kindness and thanks I received. I realized that my purpose in life would be to reach out to people, specifically teenagers, and help them feel less alone.
Books were my true friends back then. I was so thankful that the authors wrote those books. The kindness I found in their books saved my life. One of my biggest dreams was to become an author so I could write books that would help other teenagers the way those books helped me.
After surviving terrible experiences at school and at home, I made a choice to take the optimistic (乐观的), positive road in the next steps of my journey. My dream career, one I thought was only possible for the authors I loved, is what I am doing now. I have been a full-time author of teen novels since 2007 and am grateful for this amazing opportunity to reach out to readers every single day.
Kindness saved me when I needed help the most. Even small acts of kindness can change someone’s life. You never know what someone else is going through. But by practising daily kindness, you become a creator of positive change.

Every Friday afternoon, you can see a group of students in the “Sunshine Book Corner” of No. 3 Middle School. They are the volunteer managers of the book corner, and they spend their after-school time taking care of this small but warm corner.

They also make special posters to recommend good books to their classmates.

Charity (慈善) is all about love and care. It’s a kind of action to help those in trouble, like the unhealthy or the sick. Around the world, different charity activities happen every day. Let’s look into some common types.
Donation (捐赠)—A Direct Help
Donating is a popular way. People give money to charities. These groups use the money well. For example, they give clothes, food, or medicine to the people in need.
Volunteering—Giving Time and Love
Volunteers do important things. They visit children’s homes to spend time with kids, telling stories or teaching them skills. In community centers, volunteers help old people—checking their health or just talking with them. Some volunteers work in places for animals, taking care of pets without homes. It’s not just about helping others. Volunteers also get happiness from their work.
Charity Events—Bringing People Together
Many charity events are held to raise money and make people know the importance of helping others. Some events ask people to walk a certain distance, and each person asks others to donate money. Charity concerts invite famous singers. The money from tickets helps those in need. These events make more people know the problems and help solve them.
Teenagers in Charity
Don’t think teenagers are too young for charity. They have good ways. Some start “book drives” to collect old books for village schools. Others make handmade things and sell them, then give the money to charity groups. By joining in charity activities, teenagers learn to be responsible and find the joy of giving.
Charity is like a light in the dark. It shows us the power of love and how every small action can make a difference.
66.What is charity all about
67.Where do volunteers help the elderly according to the passage
68.What do volunteers get from their work

46.my 47.Without 48.an 49.to find 50.set 51.activities 52.is handing 53.deeply 54.but 55.difference
固定句型:It is+形容词+for sb. to do sth.,表示“对某人来说做某事是…… 所以填to find。
固定搭配make a difference表示“对……
56.touch 57.blind 58.imagine 59.invited 60.that 61.members 62.task 63.best 64.group 65.success

故填that。

A meaningful voluntary activityDear fellow students,
I am happy to share my ideas here. I would like to choose to help the elderly in our community. Many live alone and feel lonely, especially during festivals.
I plan to teach them how to make paper cuttings, a traditional Chinese art. First, fold red paper into a square. Then, draw a simple “Fu” (happiness) pattern. Finally, cut along the lines. Red paper cuttings symbolize good luck and joy. I will also chat with them and listen to their stories.
To make it creative and warm, I will prepare handmade greeting cards with wishes. We can also take photos together and give them as gifts. This will bring love and brighten their day.
Let’s take action and make a difference!
