A Life-Changing Donation
When Sarah was 12 years old, she read a news article about children in Africa who didn‘t have clean drinking water. She was shocked. She couldn’t imagine how hard their lives must be.
Sarah decided to do something. She started a small charity called “Water for All”. She began by selling homemade cookies at her school. In the first month, she raised $200. She sent the money to an organisation that builds wells in Africa.
The next year, Sarah organised a charity run at her school. Over 300 students and teachers joined. They raised $5,000. With that money, a well was built in a village in Kenya. The well now provides clean water for 500 families.
Sarah continued her work. By the time she was 18, her charity had raised over $50,000. Ten wells had been built in different villages. Thousands of people now had access to clean water.
Sarah‘s story shows that age is not a barrier to making a difference. You don’t have to be an adult to help others. All you need is a caring heart and the determination to act.
True or False:
26. Sarah started a charity called “Clean Water for All” when she was 12.
27. Sarah raised $200 by selling homemade cookies at her school.

China’s Poverty Relief Efforts
Over the past decade, China has made remarkable progress in reducing poverty. According to a 2025 World Bank report, China lifted over 100 million people out of poverty between 2015 and 2025. This achievement has been called the greatest poverty reduction in human history.
The government used several strategies. First, it invested heavily in infrastructure in poor areas. Between 2020 and 2025, more than 1.5 million kilometres of roads were built in rural areas. Second, it provided free vocational training. By 2025, over 30 million people had received training that helped them find jobs.
Third, the government encouraged companies to set up factories in poor regions. Thousands of factories were built, providing jobs for local people. Fourth, the government improved access to education. More than 20,000 new schools were built in poor areas between 2015 and 2025.
Charities also played an important role. Many non-governmental organisations provided food, clothing, and medical care to families in need. Some organisations focused on helping children stay in school.
China has now set a new goal: to help other developing countries reduce poverty. By 2025, China had provided poverty reduction training to officials from more than 100 countries.
