Summer is known for the hot weather and holidays. It s a great time for us to relax and connect with nature. This year, our family decided to go on a summer trip to a hill station(山区避暑小镇). Many beautiful places in India are known for their natural beauty, such as Wilson Hills, Kufri and Munnar. After a long discussion about which hill station to go to, we finally selected Shimla.
We drove there and arrived in the morning. Then, we went to the hotel that we had booked. Shimla has many things for tourists to enjoy, such as beautiful places and shopping streets full of people from different countries.
We planned a trip for 5 days. On the afternoon of the first day, we went to the shopping streets and Jakhu Hills. They are the main tourist spots in the city. Many activities were going on there and then we enjoyed the amazing nightlife of Shimla. The next day, we travelled by toy train. The toy train runs from Kalka to Shimla. It s fun to travel on the train even though it runs slowly. The next 3 days were spent visiting places near Shimla, like Chail, Kufri and Mashobra. We tried some local activities in these places while enjoying their natural beauty.
During all these days filled with activities to do, we always got tired in the evening. But the nightlife there, or just looking at the starry sky, made us happy and filled us with new energy.

We arrived in the hot and wet city—Bangkok. This is our first trip to Thailand. All the different smells make us want to try the food. We are going to eat something special for dinner tonight. Our bus ride to Chiang Rai was long and boring. We visited a small village in the mountains. The village people here love the quiet life—no computers or phones. They are the kindest people I have ever met. They always smile and say “hello”. Kathy and I can only speak a few words of Thai, so smiling is the best way to show our kindness. I feel good here, but we have to go home now. I hope to be able to come back next year.

An Unforgettable Trip
Hello, everyone! Today I want to share an unforgettable trip with you.
Last summer, I went to a small village with my parents. There, I saw green hills and clear rivers. We walked in the field, picked fresh fruit and ate delicious local food. I also tried fishing for the first time.
I felt so excited and relaxed during the trip. I think travelling is not just about having fun. It helps us learn about different places, understand new cultures and become more open minded.
Thanks for listening!

When most travellers think of Dunhuang in Gansu Province, they choose to visit the Mogao Grottoes first. But this time, I decided to go to the Gobi Desert. It wasn t just a common trip—it let me explore the history and beautiful scenery of Western China.
My journey started with a drive from Dunhuang. The city roads soon turned into the wide, open Gobi Desert. After two hours of driving to the northwest, I reached Yumen Pass, a relic(遗迹) on the ancient Silk Road. Standing here, you can really feel the weight of history. I even thought of the famous line by the poet Wang Zhihuan: “Why must the Qiang flute bemoan the willows? The spring wind does not reach Yumen Pass.”
After that, I drove northwest to the ruins of Hecang City. It is an ancient city from the Western Han Dynasty. As the sun went down, warm light covered the yellow sand and old walls. It looked just like a living painting. I couldn t help wondering what life was like here 1,000 years ago.
When the sunlight faded(减弱), I went northwest to Yadan National Park. I ve watched stars from mountains and other deserts before, but nothing was as amazing as the “Devil City” in the Gobi.
As night came, stars filled the sky. Unlike my hometown, the stars here shone brightly and the desert was so quiet. For the first time in my life, I wished time would stop. I wanted to lose myself in this peace, far away from the noisy city.

Travel is more than taking photos and buying gifts. When we leave our daily lives behind, we open the door to a bigger world. It is a living textbook that you never learn in class. In this passage, I will explain why middle school students should be encouraged to travel.
First of all, travel trains our life skills. On a trip, we must read maps, ask strangers for help and plan the money we have. 1. These problems may be hard, but they teach us to think quickly and make wise decisions. The earlier we practise these skills, the more independent we will become.
D
Second, travel helps us understand different cultures. A classmate of mine once laughed at a visitor who ate with his hand. But after he had a tour to India, he knew that eating by hand is a traditional and popular way to show respect for food. 2. Travel teaches us that “different” does not mean “wrong”.
Third, travel makes textbook knowledge alive. A geography lesson about mountains becomes real when you stand on Mount Huangshan at sunrise. 3. When knowledge comes with sights, sounds and feelings, it is kept in mind longer and deeper.
E
B
Some parents worry that they spend too much money travelling. In fact, a one day visit to a nearby town or even a planned walk through an old street is also a kind of travel. 4. What matters is not the distance(距 离), but the open eyes and minds.
In short, travel is a hidden class that improves our skills, widens our minds and strengthens our knowledge. Let s pack our curiosity and start the journey—near or far—this weekend!
A
A. It doesn t have to be expensive or far.
B. Suddenly, the cold numbers on the page jump into life.
C. The history you have learnt turns into colourful stories.
D. Language difficulties, wrong turns or missed buses often happen.
E. Without such experiences, we may think our own habits are the only right ones.
5. In your opinion, what other life skills can travel train besides those mentioned in the passage? (Answer within 20 words)
Travel can also train our communication skills with different people, like making friends with local people during the trip. (言之有理即可)
