The octopus is one of the most amazing animals in the ocean. There are around 300 different kinds of octopuses. They come in all sizes. The smallest octopus is only about as big as your fingernail, while the largest ones can be over 9 meters long!
Octopuses have a very special body. They have eight arms, and each arm is full of suction cups. These suction cups help octopuses hold things and move around. What’s more amazing is that an octopus has three hearts! Two of its hearts work to pump blood to the gills, and the third one pumps blood to the rest of its body.
Octopuses are also very smart. They can change the color and texture of their skin in a blink of an eye. This helps them hide from other animals. If a big fish is coming to attack, an octopus can turn itself to look like a rock or a plant. Besides, octopuses can escape from small places because they have no bones. They can even lose an arm to get away from danger and grow it back later!
