The two made a Facebook post, hoping it would land in front of the right 4 —and soon. Christmas morning was only one 5 away.
“I remember being a 6 myself,” says David, “eager to receive gifts, so we’ve got to try to get these back to the family soon. If anyone came to get the gifts back, we would check the kids’ 7 on the gift cards.”

Not long ago, my daughter’s favourite leather shoes were cut by a knife. She cried. I took the shoes to a shoemaker to get them repaired.
The young apprentice (学徒) took a look at the cuts quickly and said, “There is 16 I can do but change the uppers.”
His master looked at them and said to me, “If you 17 me, I will add more cuts to both of the shoes on purpose for special style.”
I didn’t fully understand him, but I decided to leave the shoes.
Two days later, I went there to get the shoes. At the first sight I found there were indeed five or six 18 on each shoe, but all of them were covered by soft red leather sewn with thick thread. The shoes looked more 19 and interesting than ever. I couldn’t stop praising the master for his skill.
Another time, my wife’s blouse had an opening on the back. My wife checked it carefully, and then said, “I’ll repair it myself.”
Three days went past, and I was very surprised to see it again: the 20 was sewn up by thin and white thread and it looked like an ice crystal. She 21 made a lovely snowman and a wooden house on the blouse. I said with praise, “It’s just as beautiful as a piece of art.”
“I learned from the master. Patches can be 22 to look perfect.” replied my wife.
Her words taught me even more. Perfection is 23 to achieve in everything; patches are unavoidable; so is human life, which will appear in the form of wounds, 24 or disease. Since you can’t change that, all you can do and have to do is to cover the wound with patches and try your best to make a most beautiful flower on the wound, and that is what life teaches us. Once you 25 it, you can enjoy your life better.

An about 2-meter-wide alley, or “Liu Chi Xiang” in Chinese, now interests many visitors in Anhui province. There is an old story 66 behind it. The story explains the meaning of tolerance (宽容) that is well 67 in China.
During the Qing Dynasty, one of the prime ministers (宰相), Zhang Ying, received a(n) 68 from his family back in his hometown one day.
From the letter, Zhang 69 that his family quarreled (争吵) with their neighbor Wu over the line between two houses. They couldn’t 70 with each other. Zhang’s family hoped that Zhang could make the Wu family 71 .

All that anger about one meter or two.
Looking at the ten thousand mile-long Great Wall.
Long gone is its builder Emperor Qinshihuang.”

It made an about two-meter-wide 78 alley between the houses.
More than 300 years later in modern China, “Liu Chi Xiang” has become one of the most 79 places of interest. It asks people to 80 public morals (道德) and treasure peace.

I sat on a bench and waited, with my eyes looking at the ground. When I heard footsteps, I looked up. As soon as they sat down, Dad asked, “Are you okay ”
“What’s the 87 ” Dad asked. I told him I was scared. When I was a boy, I was great at math. In grade school I went over the multiplication tables (乘法表) again and again 91 I remembered them. Then when I got to High School, I had to take Algebra (代数). Suddenly, the numbers were letters, and everything was so 92 that I couldn’t understand it. Learning it felt like hitting my head 93 the wall. I felt like I would never understand it, never use it, and never need it in my life.
That last part was proven (证明) 94 , though, several years later. I was working at a low-paid job, trying my best to 95 my young family. One day I found myself with just five dollars in my 96 until the next paycheck. The gas tank on my old car was 97 too, so I pulled up to a store and put five dollars worth of gas in the tank. As I was waiting in line to 98 , I saw the woman in front of me crazily 99 through her wallet to find enough money to pay for two cartons of milk. For a second, selfishness (自私) held back my heart, 100 then I walked forward and put down my last five dollars to help her get the milk for her children.
As I left the 101 , I felt strange. My wallet was empty but my 102 felt full. I was poor but still felt like the 103 man in the world. It didn’t make sense to me mathematically. But then I 104 that I didn’t have to understand Algebra. Maybe I just had to enjoy it.
Love is a lot like Algebra. It can be a mystery that we never fully understand. The truth is the more love we give, the more love we have. The more we 105 it, the more it grows inside of us. Welcome the mystery then and enjoy all the riches of love.
