Relationships with your siblings (兄弟姐妹) can help you practice social skills.
Having a good relationship with them can help you communicate with other people,
and understand other people’s feelings. You can even learn things when you don’t get
on with your siblings. When you have argued with them, you have to find a way to
stay togehter with them. As a result, you often learn how to accept differences. It is
very useful in the outside world.
It’s completely normal that sometimes you and your sibling won’t see eye to eye.
“Have a good think about why the two of you don’t get on. Try to talk when you both
cool down,” says Dr. Owen, a researcher in how children develop. “Tell them how you
feel. You could say, ‘It really hurts me when you make jokes about me.’ If the trouble
carries on, talk to a trusted adult.”
All families are different. What if you don’t have siblings That doesn’t mean you
won’t experience the advantages people get from having a brother or sister. There are
ways to help only children develop these skills too.
24. What is paragraph 1 mainly about
A. Advantages of having siblings.
B. Causes of arguing with others.
C. Practices of accepting differences.
25. What do the underlined words “see eye to eye” in paragraph 2 mean
A. Joke with each other.
B. Hear from each other.
C. Agree with each other.
26. What should you do if you and your sibling have an argument and the trouble
doesn’t go away
A. Keep arguing until you win.
B. Talk to trusted adult.
C. Ignore (忽视) your sibling forever.
27. What will probably be talked about next
A. Why all families are different.
B. When we can talk to a trusted adult.
C. How only children develop social skills.

Most teens try very hard to look good. They wear beautiful clothes, cool shoes
and fashionablesunglasses. They may feel sad because of the smallest pimple (粉刺). I
knowit because I used to focus only on my appearance. However, now Iwork hard to
see more than just my looks. I'll explain why.
Firstly, if you only focus on how you look, you'll also focus only on the
appearance of others. As a result, you'll become a person who can't see the truly
important characteristics (品质) of others. Some people don't follow the latest fashion
trends. If you avoid getting to know them, you'll miss out on many interesting and
valuable relationships in your life.
Moreover, if you focus only on your appearance, you’ll miss the chances to
improve your abilities. For example, if you spend all your time trying to look
fashionable, you won't have any time to learn new skillsor improve your grades at
school. Even the most attractive people need to have skills to succeed in life.
In addition, focusing only on your looks can make you feel disappointed about
yourself. If youdon't worry about a pimple on your face, you'll be less likely to feel
unhappy about yourself. In a word, happy people like to communicate with the world in
a positiveway. Therefore, feeling happy is more important than looking good. You
should work hard at feeling good, not just looking good.
I used to focus only on how I looked. However, now I work hard to focus on all
the different parts of myself — my appearance, personality, abilities and so on. So
I'm a much happier person. If you take my advice, you'll be a happier person, too. Your
first step is to look at yourself without a mirror!
28.What's the writer's purpose in writing the first paragraph
A. To introduce his opinions on looks.
B. To explain how important your look is.
C. To let you buy more beautiful things.
29.According to the writer, what might focusing only on your appearance lead to
A. It will encourage you to enjoy the world.
B. It will help you see important points in others.
C. It will stop you from improving your abilities.
30. What is the text mainly about
A. The importance of focusing on your physical appearance.
B. The importance of improving your abilities and skills.
C. The importance of seeing all the different parts of yourself.
31. Which is the best structure for the passage
①①②③①
②③④④
A. ⑤ B. ⑤ C.②③④⑤

White Fang slowly got better and during this time, he did not let anyone near him.
Scott wanted to kill him, because his teeth hurt Matt’s hand. But Matt said, “Let’s give
him more time.” Scott agreed.
A few days later, Scott tried to touch White Fang. He, too, got badly bitten.
Instead of getting angry with the dog, however, he walked slowly toward White Fang,
holding another piece of meat. When he was quite near the dog, he dropped the meat
on the ground and walked away from it. White Fang looked at him and moved toward
the meat, expecting Scott to hit him. When Scott did not move, White Fang moved
closer to the meat. He still expected Scott to hit him, but Scott did not move. The meat
was eaten up.
The next day, Scott held the meat in his hand when he offered it to White Fang.
The dog would not take it, so Scott left it on the ground. The same thing happened for
many days. Finally, White Fang was not afraid of Scott and took a piece of meat from
his hand. Scott let White Fang do this several times. Then, he walked up to him
without any meat in his hand. He put out his hand and touched White Fang. The wolf
in White Fang wanted to bite the hand, but the dog in him wanted to obey the man.
White Fang barked, but he did not bite.
Every day, Scott touched the dog. White Fang began to like being touched. He
began to like this god who gave him meat, touched him gently, and never beat him. As
the days passed, White Fang began to love Scott. Even when Scott went away, he
stopped eating. He lay quietly, without moving.
———Adapted from White Fang by Jack London
32.Why did Scott want to kill White Fang at first
A. Because White Fang was not careful to work for him.

From Tradition to the Modern
Customs and Tradition
During the Dragon Boat Festival, Chinese always put
mugwort leaves on doors or windows to make the air fresh and
keep flies and other insects away. Mugwort, a kind of plant, is
highly valued for its medical use in TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine). Chinese
have been making use of herbs (草药) like mugwort to help people improve health or
treat illness for thousands of years.
Practice and Spread
Nowadays, we are seeing more interest in TCM especially among the young. ①
Influenced by TCM ideas, some young people stop having icy drinks. They accept hot
Chinese herbal tea, instead. When people feel ill, some choose to go to TCM hospitals
and clinics for treatment. With the spread of TCM, some schools start courses about it.
For example, students learn to make joss sticks (线香) with herbs in class. More TCM
programs appear on TV and the Internet, which helps people form better living habits.
Ideas and Spirit
In fact, the ideas of Traditional Chinese Medicine are everywhere around us.
Following the natural rules can make us healthier. As an old saying goes, “Early to
bed, early to rise.” TCM also pays more attention to the balance of diet. Different
coloured foods are friendly to different parts of the body. White food is good for lungs
(肺), red for heart…If a body is like a tree, TCM focuses on its root (根). It aims at
keeping the body and mind in harmony (和谐).
Chinese traditions are making a difference to our modern life.
