When Martin Roth began his career as a forest ranger in the 1980s, his job was to care for the forest in a way that would ensure continuity for decades, even centuries. Now, with climate change,“it's turned into disaster management,” says Roth, for whom the 3,000 acres of forest along Lake Constance in Germany double as testing ground for high-tech solutions.
After a catastrophic storm, damaged trees need to be removed before the arrival of bark beetles (甲虫), which can destroy entire forests. While it used to take Roth two and a half hours to cover an acre of forest on foot, drones now let him survey the entire 3,000 acres in a matter of days, so he can quickly locate damaged trees, inform the owners of affected plots, and send information to workers on the ground.
It takes forest soil decades to recover after being pressed down by heavy logging equipment. That's why Roth has digitally mapped all the logging trails and equipped tree harvesters with high-accuracy GPS trackers so the machines can precisely follow the same route for decades and easily find them in the chaotic aftermath of a storm.GPS data is used to record how much timber (木 材 ) was harvested from which location——a crucial upgrade in a forest with many different owners.
Roth's most recent project is combining body camera footage with AI.“Usually you mark the trees, they' re felled (砍伐), and you have no idea how much timber you' ll end up with————— how many cubic meters, what quality, which tree species,” he explains. Now AI,“looking” through his body camera, automatically recognizes the tree species he has marked and estimates the amount of timber it will produce, sending the information to his phone in real time.
Roth's expertise in tackling the challenges of modern forestry with technology is increasingly sought after, and he lectures on digitalization in forestry at the Rottenburg University of Applied Forest Sciences. But he warns that technology can never replace a walk through the forest:“I should never believe that the digital twin is reality. I always have to do a reality check.”
24. How does climate change affect Roth's job as a forest ranger
A. It makes the job seasonal.
B. It complicates long-term planning.
C. It requires timely and effective responses.
D. It shifts the focus from prevention to recovery.
25. What is Roth's purpose in digitally mapping logging trails
A. To minimize soil damage. B. To locate damaged trees.
C. To track down wood sources. D. To cut the cost of transportation.
26. What has Roth been doing with AI recently
A. Managing logging schedules.
B. Controlling forestry machines.
C. Assessing timber volume and quality.
D. Selecting suitable sites for tree planting.
27. What does Roth try to convey about digitalization in forestry in the last paragraph
A. Still waters run deep.
B. A new broom sweeps clean.
C. A good thing is known when it is lost.
D. Don't put all your eggs in one basket.

Gig (零 工 ) delivery workers, already earning poverty wages, are now being undercut by tip-free delivery robots operated by companies like Coco and Serve Robotics, and the Los Angeles Times reports that robot wrangler, a fast-growing gig in California, has emerged to tend these robots, raising concerns about how automation threatens the livelihoods of marginalized workers like migrants, single parents, the elderly and people with disabilities.
Much of robot wranglers’ work happens out of the public eye, including daily recharging, cleaning and constant maintenance for software updates and hardware malfunctions, while a crucial part is done in the streets, where the US’ disreputable urban infrastructure often makes robots encounter obstacles, requiring wranglers to help them navigate crosswalks and even physically drop off food to customers who refuse to go out.
“They are the kind of jobs that scale with the robots,” Serve Robotics CEO told the LA Times.“If you build more robots, you' re going to still have people whose job is to operate the fleet.” In Los Angeles, Coco is hiring 24/7 robot delivery specialists to support its fleet, with duties including transporting robots to merchant partners, doing basic maintenance and completing in-person deliveries when necessary.
Wages for this work start at $21 an hour and top off at $23, a yearly take-home
hovering around $45,760, which is higher than average Los Angeles delivery drivers’ pay but well below California's living wage,$63,402, for a single adult according to MIT's Living Wage calculator. Besides, robots eliminate a low-barrier income source for marginalized workers, reducing them to remote babysitters with no freedom to set aside obligation like DoorDash drivers, who can end their work by closing the app to drop their obligation to fill orders for the company. Robot wranglers, contracted by the hour, have no such freedom.
While the long-term impact of delivery robots on overall job numbers remains unclear, with their business case still young and urban regulations possibly slowing their rollout to a crawl, it's worth asking: do these robots represent progress for all, or just Silicon Valley's latest scheme to cut labor costs under the banner of innovation
28. What do robot wranglers mainly do behind the scenes
A. Deliver food to customers personally.
B. Maintain and care for delivery robots.
C. Help robots pass through crosswalks in urban areas.
D. Remove urban infrastructure obstacles for robots.
29. What does the underlined word“scale” in paragraph 3 probably mean
A. Expand. B. Compete. C. Disappear. D. Improve.
30. How does the author develop paragraph 4 ·
A. By listing data. B. By defining a concept.
C. By giving examples. D. By making comparisons.
31. What is the author's attitude towards the rise of robot delivery
A. Supportive. B. Critical. C. Cautious. D. Unconcerned.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a defining legacy of Chinese civilization and remains one of the major traditional medical systems still widely practiced in the world today. In recent years, TCM has played a prominent role in global health governance and its internationalization has made substantial progress. TCM has spread to over 200 countries and regions, and more than 100 member states of the World Health Organization recognize acupuncture therapy. China has supported the high-quality development of around 30 overseas TCM centers and dispatched medical teams to more than 70 countries and regions. TCM consistently serves as an important component of China's foreign medical assistance, laying a solid foundation for its standardized and sustainable development abroad.
In 2019, the WHO approved the inclusion of a separate chapter about TCM in the 11th Revision of the International Classification of Diseases for the first time.TCM has since been officially included in the global medical system. Also, the International Organization for Standardization has issued 119 TCM-related standards, covering terminology, diagnosis and treatment, medical devices with clinical services and quality control.
While TCM has secured an increasingly visible presence in global health governance, its journey toward full internationalization is still lined with countless twists and turns. It faces substantial regulatory and market access barriers, as countries differ widely in their requirements for drug registration, approval and supervision. In many jurisdictions, evaluation systems tailored to traditional medicines have yet to be established, and TCM is often categorized as complementary or alternative medicine, resulting in complex procedures and high entry costs. Some countries also impose high tariffs or burdensome import procedures on Chinese medicinal materials and related products.
TCM can play a distinctive role in global health governance and contribute Chinese wisdom to the improvement of human health worldwide by upholding the essence of tradition while pursuing innovation, proactively aligning with international rules, strengthening the cultivation of global talent and making effective use of modern technologies.
32. What does the author highlight in the first paragraph
A. TCM's history. B. TCM's influence.
C. TCM's future. D. TCM's development.
33. What was the impact of the WHO's 2019 decision
A. It promoted mass production of TCM devices.
B. It removed regulatory barriers for TCM products.
C. It gave TCM official recognition in the global system.
D. It contributed to the issue of 119 TCM-related standards.
34. What can be inferred about TCM's internationalization from the text
A. The challenges far outweigh the achievements.
B. Numerous obstacles coexist with development.
C. Specific evaluation systems have been put into use.
D. Some countries refuse Chinese medicinal materials.
35. What is a suitable title for the text
A. Modern Innovation: The Future Path of TCM.
B. TCM: A Defining Milestone for Human Health.
C. TCM: A Priceless Legacy of Chinese Civilization.
D. Progress and Challenges: The Globalization of TCM.

The Lost Art of Eye Contact
If the title of this article caught your eye, that's a good start —— it might even help you reflect on where your eyes typically focus and where they don't. 36 The alerts and endless digital noise have shifted our gaze (凝 视 ) away from the eyes of others and toward our devices.
But devices are only one of the challenges surrounding this lost art.Let's examine the very term we use:“eye contact”. This phrase frames eye contact as a static(静态的) object, something we either“have” or“don’ t”. 37 It fails to recognize eye contact as a dynamic and interactive process that requires intention and awareness.
38 Great artists use all their senses to absorb information and deepen their connection with their environment. Similarly, your eyes offer you a powerful way to connect more deeply and vividly with those around you. Is it really that simple Yes! Eye contact is the result of trying to actively engage in communication ————— both understanding and being understood. But in practice, it is far from simple sometimes. It's easy to have great eye contact when you' re completely at ease. But when you' re
feeling self-conscious (不自在的), simply trying to focus on the other person may not be enough. 39
Try an exercise called“Silent Storytelling”. You' ll tell a story———— but without sound. Recruit a friend or two and use your eyes, face, hands, and body to convey your message. Pay close attention to your audience's reactions——— raised eyebrows, widening eyes, or nodding. 40 What you' ll discover is that“good eye contact”comes naturally when you need to assess their understanding without the help of sound. Gradually, through repeated practice, you can master the art of eye contact.
A. This view oversimplifies the concept.
B. This reflects a shift from face-to-face engagement.
C. Instead, we should consider eye contact as an art form.
D. The key point of interaction is emphasized accordingly.
E. These signals will indicate whether they' re following along.
F. Eye contact is becoming increasingly rare in our lives in the digital time.
G. Thus, it is high time you needed effective practice to regain this lost social skill.

The first-day anxiety was impossible to ignore as Lucy Falls walked into her new school. Though she was excited for the opportunity to study cinema at the School of the Arts, she now wondered if she had made a terrible mistake by transferring (转学) in the middle of the year.
Finishing her paperwork had worn her out. The office assistant had instructed her to take the staircase on the right down to the basement. Just as Lucy started walking, the bell for first period rang. She marched quickly and made it to the staircase.Distracted (使分心) by a group of students taking selfies or making videos, Lucy tripped over her first step.
She fell and then skidded all the way to the bottom, purse and bag sliding down behind her.
“Smooth feet, newbie!”
“That's gotta hurt!”
As she picked herself up, Lucy couldn't decide what hurt more—— her body or her
pride. She took a few deep breaths and realized she was now standing in front of her first-period class.“Only like four people saw me fall,” she told herself.“No big deal.”
First period went by uneventfully. By the time she was headed to second period, she had thrown the fall to the back of her mind. When she pushed open the door to Intro to Cinema, the class she was most looking forward to, students looked her way and whispers snaked from group to group. Lucy felt her face get hot. A couple of kids were gathered in the back around one of the classroom laptops, and she assumed they were talking about her.
“Settle down, class,” the teacher said to the students, who quieted. She directed her attention toward Lucy and gave her a welcoming smile.“You must be Lucy Falls.Today we are discussing our 30-second film project. I believe the details were in the outline you received before you transferred. You can join group four,” she said, directing a pointed look to the group at the back of the classroom.
注意:
1、续写词数应为 150 个左右。
2、请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Paragraph 1: Fearing the worst, Lucy approached the group. Paragraph 2: Her fall was now being transformed into a dramatic scene.

参考范文 1 : Dear Peter,
I'm delighted to hear you' re interested in community volunteering. After carefu l consideration, I'd highly recommend the Community Plant Care program.
Here are my reasons. Firstly, it offers a unique, hands-on experience that allows you to connect directly with nature and your neighbors. You' ll get to learn about lo cal plants and contribute to the community's aesthetic and environmen tal well-being, which is incredibly rewarding. Secondly, this activity is less langua ge-intensive, so you can focus on the work itself and bond with others through shar ed actions rather than complex conversations. It's a gentle and effective way to imm erse yourself in the joy of labor.
I sincerely hope my suggestions will be of some help to you.
Yours,
Li Hua

范文:
Fearing the worst, Lucy approached the group. Instead of teasing her, she wa s greeted with bright, excited grins.“We were just talking about your fall!” one stu dent said, leaning forward,“It's perfect for our project's opening—— raw, chaotic, and totally relatable!” Lucy's tense shoulders softened, and she let out a shaky lau gh. As she stepped closer, the group shifted over to make space, patting the seat be
side them. At that moment, she saw that showing her awkward side wasn't a fla w——— it was the spark of a story waiting to be told.
Her fall was now being transformed into a dramatic scene. They mapped out t he shot: the clatter of her bag, the slow-motion skid, the quiet moment she picked herself up. After slow-motion effects and background music were adde d, the awkward moment was soon turned into something visually striking. One o f them even excitedly suggested using Lucy's name, as a play on words, for their p roject:“Lucy Falls”. Lucy smiled to herself, thinking,“Lucy did fall, but this time, I might just leave a lasting impression”, realizing that sometimes even a fall could lead to something extraordinary.

Hello, everybody. I'd like to share with you something about Vincent vanGogh in today's class.(17) He died as a very poor man because people from his generatio n were unable to understand his art.
Vincent van Gogh personally loved drawing self-portraits. Thus, there are over 35 self-portraits in total. (18) His artworks include oil paintings, sketches and watercolor paintings.
The characteristics of his paintings can be classified into three aspects: themes, colors and styles. The themes of his paintings, which are my favorite, are mostly co untryside scenery and farmers' ordinary life.(19) Vincent van Gogh often used brigh t colors to create a sense of impact. The most unique thing is style. He conveyed strong and powerful emotion through simple and direct ways of painting. His life about art ha s been made into movies, books and other forms. After today's class, every one of you n eeds to watch the documentary movie called Vincent van Gogh:Painted with Words.(2 0) It will give you a new perspective on this great artist.
