Text 1
M: I’ve filled the garden pool with water. It should be pleasantly cold for the children to play in when they get
home from school.
W: They will both be so happy! It’s very hot today. The water will cool them down nicely.
Text 2
W: Please, cut these carrots while I make this soup. The fire is on, and everything is hot.
M: All right. The whole family is almost ready to eat.
W: They must wait another 30 minutes. We still need to cook the beef and vegetables.
Text 3
M: Excuse me. Have you got any books on computer science I’ve looked for them everywhere, but I can’t find
any.
W: I’m not sure if we’ve got any now. Books of that kind are usually on this desk. Well, I’m afraid we’ve sold out.
Text 4
M: Are we going to visit Grandpa on his farm this weekend
W: No. Grandpa is away on vacation visiting Aunt Lucy in the city. How about we go to the park to meet Susan’s
family instead
M: OK.
Text 5
M: Look, there’s another electric car. That’s the fifth one I’ve seen today. I never used to see any at all.
W: More people are getting them now. It’s good news for the environment.
M: It certainly is. Oh, look, there’s another one.
Text 6
M: Hello! We come in person to thank you for saving our son’s life.
W: I just did what anybody would have done.
M: Not everyone would have swum into a cold river. You were very brave.
W: As soon as I heard his cries, I took action. I think it was a reaction from my time working in a swimming pool.
M: Well, whatever the reason, I wanted to offer these cakes as thanks. My wife made them.
W: Thank you. And please thank your wife for me too.
Text 7
M: I was thinking of buying this painting.
W: I’m afraid it’s not for sale, sir.
M: But the price is next to it. It says 2000. I would pay double for a piece like this.
W: It was for sale, but the red circle next to the price means it’s been sold.
M: That’s a shame. This would be perfect on my office wall.
W: We have another two pieces by the same artist. Would you like to see them
M: Yes, please. Is the artist here
W: He was here earlier, but he left at 6: 00 p. m. to go home.
Text 8
M: Hi, Jennifer. Welcome to our city’s community farm. Is today your first day
W: Hello, thanks. I’ve only been volunteering for two days.
M: Oh. I have been away for five days. So, we haven’t met. We love having new volunteers at our farm.
W: One of the market workers told me about your program.
M: Oh, yes. Steve and the other market workers donate our farm’s food.
W: It’s great to have a farm close to people in need.
M: Yes. And we are teaching our city’s community about farming today. You’ll help me teach a cooking class with
healthy and fresh food.
W: Lovely!
Text 9
W: When did you first know that you had such a talent for painting
M: Well, other people think I have a special talent. I just enjoy what I do!
W: What about money People pay thousands of dollars for your art.
M: I hope that’s because it brings them happiness.
W: Today, on your 70th birthday, we celebrate your work as an artist. What inspires you
M: People who love me and my works inspire me.
W: You were ill last year. Did that have an effect on your work
M: The doctors made me stop working for a while! I recovered well and took up my brush again, although it did
slow me down.
W: Any advice that you want to pass on to the young artists
M: Yes. My art teacher told me a very simple thing: to notice everything. She gave me good advice — even now I
still listen to it.
W: Pay attention to the details
M: Yes, exactly right.
Text 10
Good evening to you all. As we all know, education is very important. If our children pay attention and learn
as much as they can, it can set them on the road to a good career and a happy life. But as well as learning subjects
at school, it is also important for them to learn right ways to obey in life. All of us should have basic rules of
behavior, including truthfulness, honesty, charity, love, and kindness. Education is not aimed at getting only a
degree. Successful moral education can make a good student perfect. Perhaps most moral education can be learned
at home, rather than in school or college, because our children spend most of their time at home. Moral education
can often be learned best by actions rather than words. Sometimes we adults forget this golden rule and advise
young people to act well, while not always doing so ourselves. Children are good observers, so it is the duty of you
as parents to set a good example to the younger generation.

Dear Chris,
I’m thrilled to hear about your upcoming winter trip to Hangzhou! For your first visit, I highly recommend a
self-organized tour though package tours offer convenience.
Hangzhou is a city with excellent public transport, including metro and bike-sharing systems, making it easy
to explore independently. Key attractions like West Lake and Hefang Street are well-connected, so you can linger at
places you love at your own pace — whether it’s sipping tea by the lake or strolling through ancient streets —
without the rush of a package tour. With your adventurous spirit, a DIY approach will allow you to fully immerse
yourself in the city’s beauty.
I’d be happy to help you plan a detailed route. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
Yours,
Li Hua
One possible version:
Early the next morning, we noticed Cloud fell sick and came down with a fever. It huddled weakly under the
sofa, emitting faint whimpers that stirred our sympathy. Lily’s eyes reddened instantly; she knelt down, gently
caressing Cloud’s cold fur and murmuring soothing words. My parents rushed to purchase pet medication, while I
fetched a warm towel to wrap around its tiny frame. Throughout the day, we took turns attending to it — Lily fed
it warm milk with patience, my father cleaned its litter box thoroughly, and my mother monitored its temperature at
regular intervals. The awkward tension in the house gradually faded, giving way to a quiet sense of unity.
By the end of the week, our family had reached a decision. We would keep Cloud permanently. Those days of
caring for the sick cat made us realize that pet ownership is not just about pleasure, but also about responsibility
and mutual warmth. Cloud, now fully recovered, ran around the house cheerfully, leaping onto the sofa and curling
up in Lily’s lap. My parents no longer complained about the trouble; instead, they often smiled as they watched
Lily play with Cloud. I even found myself looking forward to coming home to its warm welcome. This little gray
cat had not just chosen us, but also bound our family closer together.高一期中考试

Which story in Reader’s Digest impresses you the most
Last year, I once came across a story in Reader’s Digest about a man lost deep in the forest in wintertime.
Night was falling and he built a fire under the large fir (冷杉) tree he was using as a shelter (庇护物). Wind came
in and snow that was on the fir tree slid off and put his fire out. Lesson learned Never build a fire (or a shelter)
under a tree with snow.
— Sharon Jardine, Upper Tantallon, Nova Scotia
Tony Fitzjohn (“Locked in the Lion’s Jaws,” April 2023) gives his all to help ensure wild animals like Freddie
can live their lives under proper care. But one can only imagine how dangerous it must be for humans to live in the
wild. Tony survived an animal attack with the help of not only his fellow human beings but also Freddie, the lion,
whom he raised from a cub (幼兽). My belief in mutual care between humans and animals was deepened.
— Vasudevan, India
Many years ago, I read a short line in Reader’s Digest that I decided to make a family rule at my house. We set
aside an hour every day when we could reconnect, share our ups and downs — and especially share the best
laughter of the day. I’m so happy I did this because it was the only quality time that we shared as a family. Some
very happy memories were formed at those times.
— Lynn Sabourin, Gatineau, Quebec
I enjoyed “Fast and reliable Facts About Trains” (13 Things) in the June 2023 issue! It brought back a
childhood memory to me: my mother bringing me to the dentist when I was a child. I remember snow, so it must
have been wintertime, and the dentist chair. The dentist was friendly, and I believe he had to pull a rotten (蛀坏的)
tooth. It reminds me to appreciate those small warm moments of life.
— Douglas Woods, Napanee, Ontario
21. What caused the fire to go out in the story Sharon Jardine read
A. The strong wind. B. The snow falling from the tree.
C. The cold night. D. The wrongly chosen wood.
22. Why did Lynn Sabourin set up a daily family hour
A. To make a strict household rule. B. To follow a popular parenting style.
C. To reduce the children’s screen time. D. To create a space for family connection.
23. What do the four readers share in their reviews
A. They retell the impressive story B. They focus on describing nature.
C. They explain how the story affected them. D. They start by telling when they read the story.
B
A bunch of strangers showed up at the gym in the early morning of the last Sunday of April. A few athletes
were already stretching (拉伸 ) their arms, but most of us could hardly focus. As I was burning off last night’s
wrong decision — a big meal, I saw a poster about a gym’s 21-day workout challenge, and I immediately signed
up. I always wanted to train for a marathon, so I considered this as my warm-up. Besides, I needed to stop being
lazy and this was my chance to make a change.
It was easy to promise on paper, but three weeks of recommended exercise routines and diet restrictions (限制)
wouldn’t be easy. I stuck to working out 30 minutes a day, and I didn’t disturb (干扰) my normal routine. Instead, I
had to be faced with the tough work of being more creative in my spare time, thus breaking some bad habits.
Overcoming weaknesses with willpower was my goal for the next part of the journey. But the difficult part
about making a challenge is realizing that “wanting” and “doing” are two very different things. Just like a career,
you have to physically work for it rather than just wait for it to happen. But that’s hard. Throughout the 21 days, I
often told myself that the challenge was meaningless and tried to sabotage myself from exercising. However,
finally I got over that negative thought and kept working out.
At the end of the challenge, I learned something even more important: Feeling the results is better than seeing
them. I had fewer headaches and more energy, and was simply happier. I even felt a little smarter as I researched
which foods were better for my body, and learned how to make healthier meals. I felt a sense of achievement, too,
because even though I wanted to give up dozens of times, I didn’t. I felt my waist got a little bit smaller and my
arms got even stronger, and I no longer felt guilty after having a piece of cake or a drink.
24. What can be inferred about the author’s previous state before signing up for the challenge
A. He was physically fit but lacked drive.
B. He was a regular gym-goer with a strict diet.
C. He had an unhealthy lifestyle and needed a change.
D. He was an athlete preparing for a major competition.
25. What was the most difficult part of the challenge for the author
A. Overcoming negative thought and self-doubt.
B. Physical tiredness from the workouts.
C. Refusing the invitation of junk food.
D. Making a new workout plan.
26. What does the underlined word “sabotage” in paragraph 3 probably mean
A. Improve. B. Learn. C. Prevent. D. Support.
27. Which of the following words can best describe the author
A. Active and casual. B. Adventurous and impatient.
C. Inspiring and changeable. D. Determined and strong-willed.
C
Imagine a city that honors you for making sustainable (可持续的) choices — ride a bike instead of driving to
receive free tickets to a museum, walk 5,000 steps to get a free cup of coffee, or collect rubbish from the harbor to
earn a free boat ride. That’s what Copenhagen is doing through its new CopenPay plan, which offers travelers a
meaningful way to leave a lighter footprint and experience Copenhagen’s local culture.
Last summer, Wonderful Copenhagen, the city’s official tourism organization, started a four-week pilot
CopenPay program to reward (奖励 ) visitors for making sustainable decisions during their stay. Visitors are
encouraged to give up travelling by car and explore Copenhagen on foot or by bike, volunteer at a city’s farm, help
pick up rubbish in the river, or choose a plant-based meal. In return, they could get rewards including a 70-minute
free electric-powered canal tour with Stromma Denmark, or a free beer-tasting while discovering how the
Husbryggeriet Jacobsen brand turns food left into craft beers at Carlsberg Brewery.
With mass tourism increasingly becoming a problem, this plan was designed to encourage visitors to make
more green choices. And it worked. According to Wonderful Copenhagen, in 2024 there was a 29 percent increase
in bike rentals (because of the CopenPay program) compared to the year before.
“CopenPay is important because it makes sustainable and local plans easier to carry out, not just to local
people, but also to visitors who want to experience the city in a more meaningful way,” says Livia Haaland,
co-founder and gardener at ens Have. “It connects people with places that show Copenhagen’s values around
climate responsibility, community, and creativity.”
28. What does CopenPay intend to do
A. Protect the environment. B. Improve the economy.
C. Increase cultural exchange. D. Attract more visitors.
29. What can visitors do to get rewards during their stay
A. Have a free canal tour. B. Help out at local farms.
C. Take photos of their trip. D. Travel by car for sightseeing.
30. What is Livia’s attitude towards CopenPay
A. Unconcerned. B. Unclear. C. Doubtful. D. Supportive.
31. What can be the best title for the text
A. Plans for Developing Local Tourism B. Reasons for Making Sustainable Choices
C. Connect People for Promoting Economy D. Win Rewards for Being Green Travelers
D
Imagine walking across endless rolling hills, with warm sunshine and birds singing around you. This peaceful
scene is becoming rare in our modern world. As bird numbers drop, our natural sounds are fading. Humans interact
less with nature — something called “extinction of experience” — and this has been linked to poor public health
and well-being.
Birds are often colorful, and their songs are like the background music to our outdoor activities. A morning
chorus (合唱曲) should be like a full orchestra, with many instruments making rich, loud music. But if only a few
“players” come, the music feels toneless.
The study looked at how birdsong affects people, especially in English vineyards (葡萄园). Wine farming is
the UK’s fastest-growing agriculture, and vineyards often welcome tourists for tours and wine-tasting. We checked
bird groups in 21 vineyards and measured their sounds — how complex and loud they were. Vineyards with more
bird species had louder, more complex sounds. That makes sense: a place with robins (知更鸟 ), blackbirds and
swifts (雨燕) sounds more varied than one with just a few pigeons or crows.
The researchers also asked 186 vineyard visitors about their experience, and even added bird songs through
hidden speakers in some places. The results were interesting. Visitors who heard louder, more complex sounds —
whether natural or added — enjoyed the sounds more. They felt more connected to nature, more satisfied with
their tour, and more relaxed, forgetting work and daily stress.
As vineyard manager Paul Harrison said, people often take nature’s benefits for granted. The study shows
clearly: birdsong improves our well-being. Protecting birds can make our time in nature better and bring positive
feelings. Today, we’re more cut off from nature than our grandparents, and we’re getting used to these changes. But
we hope more people will work to keep and improve our natural sounds — so we can all enjoy the joy of birdsong.
32. What happens as natural sounds fade in Paragraph 1
A. People’s health improves gradually. B. People feel closer to the wild world.
C. People’s happiness is negatively affected. D. People find more peaceful living spaces.
33. Why does the author use the underlined word “orchestra” in Paragraph 2 as a simile (明喻)
A. To show bird song’s richness and variety. B. To explain how to enjoy outdoor activities.
C. To compare birds to musical performers. D. To prove music and nature are connected.
34. How do visitors feel with complex birdsong
A. They feel more stressed from work. B. They get a stronger sense of nature connection.
C. They show less interest in wine-tasting. D. They complain about the noisy environment.
35. What is the text mainly about
A. How to protect birds in vineyards. B. Why vineyards are good for bird protection.
C. Why birds are disappearing gradually. D. How birdsong influences people’s well-being.

How to Stay Safe During a Typhoon
When a typhoon strikes, the world outside can change from calm to dangerous in just a few minutes. The sky
darkens, the wind grows wild, and heavy rain begins to fall with great force. 36 But staying calm and
taking the right actions can make a big difference.
Stay indoors and keep away from windows.
During a typhoon, the safest place is always indoors. Once the storm begins, do not go outside, not even for a
short look. Close all windows and doors tightly, and stay away from glass, which may break when hit by strong
wind or flying objects. 37 Waiting indoors may feel long and boring, but it protects you from real danger
outside.
Be mindful of electricity and stay alert (警觉的).
Strong wind and rain can be dangerous with electricity. If water begins to enter your home, turn off the main
power in no time. Avoid touching wet plugs, wires, or electrical devices. Listen carefully to what’s happening
around you. Sometimes a strange sound or sudden silence can mean trouble is near. 38
Follow official warnings and remain patient.
39 Follow the advice of local governments, even if the weather seems calmer for a moment. If the sky
suddenly becomes calm, don’t be fooled — it is the “eye” of the typhoon that passes by. The wind can return even
harder than before. So you should stay patient and wait for official news.
40
No one can stop the storm, but you can control how you face it. Take deep breaths, speak gently, and try to
calm those around you. Help children, the elderly, or neighbors who might be alone. Courage grows when people
care for each other. Kindness stands even in the strongest wind.
A. The worst of the storm may be over.
B. It is normal to feel fear at such a moment.
C. A typhoon can change direction or strength at any time.
D. Stay calm and support each other.
E. You need to learn to fix the electricity by yourself.
F. If you live high up, this rule is especially important.
G. During a typhoon, attention saves more than strength does.

第二节(满分 25分)
My younger sister Lily had always longed for a cat. Every birthday and every Spring Festival, she made the
same wish. My parents, however, remained unconvinced, firmly believing that keeping a pet would be more trouble
than pleasure, especially with two busy students in the family.
Everything changed unexpectedly one Saturday afternoon.
On my way home from school, I noticed a small gray cat sitting near the entrance of our apartment building. It
wasn’t afraid at all. Instead, it followed me upstairs, slipped into our living room, and settled there as if it had
already decided where it belonged. Lily let out a scream of excitement.
“She chose us!” Lily announced, her voice trembling with certainty.
My father immediately pointed to the cat hair gathering on the sofa, while my mother raised concerns about
feeding schedules once exam pressure set in. After a long and cautious discussion, they finally agreed to keep the
cat for one week — as a trial.
We named it “Cloud”, inspired by its soft fur. In the beginning, things went smoothly. Cloud spent most of the
day sleeping and followed Lily from room to room, like a loyal shadow. But soon, problems appeared. Cloud
would often knock over a flower pot, scratch the curtains, and jump onto the dining table.
Each small accident added to the growing unease. “This is exactly what we feared,” my father remarked. Lily
tried to defend Cloud, promising to take full responsibility. I remained mostly silent, watching how quickly
excitement gave way to tension.

shouted. The room fell silent. Cloud jumped down at once and hid under the sofa, curling up into a ball and not
taking a single step out. Lily looked up at me, tears welling in her eyes.
Later that night, I found her sitting on the floor, softly calling Cloud’s name. However, it refused to come out.
“If we send it away,” Lily asked in a low voice, “will it live a good life ”
Her question lingered in my mind long after she went to bed.
