(2023 全国甲卷,阅读D)Grizzly bears, which may grow
to about 2.5m long and weigh over 400kg, occupy a conflicted
corner of the American psyche — we revere (敬畏) them even as they give us frightening dreams. Ask the tourists from around the world that flood into Yellowstone National Park what they most hope to see, and their answer is often the same: a grizzly bear.
“Grizzly bears are re-occupying large areas of their former range,” says bear biologist Chris Servheen. As grizzly bears expand their range into places where they haven’t been seen in a century or more, they’re increasingly being sighted by humans.
The western half of the U. S. was full of grizzlies when Europeans came, with a rough number of 50,000 or more living alongside Native Americans. By the early 1970s, after centuries of cruel and continuous hunting by settlers, 600 to 800 grizzlies remained on a mere 2 percent of their former range in the Northern Rockies. In 1975, grizzlies were listed under the Endangered Species Act.
Today, there are about 2,000 or more grizzly bears in the U. S. Their recovery has been so successful that the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service has twice attempted to de-list grizzlies, which would loosen legal protections and allow them to be hunted. Both efforts were overturned due to lawsuits from conservation groups. For now, grizzlies remain listed.
Obviously, if precautions (预防) aren’t taken, grizzlies can become troublesome, sometimes killing farm animals or walking through yards in search of food. If people remove food and attractants from their yards and campsites, grizzlies will typically pass by without trouble.
Putting electric fencing around chicken houses and other farm animal quarters is also highly effective at getting grizzlies away. “Our hope is to have a clean, attractant-free place where bears can pass through without learning bad habits,” says James Jonkel, longtime biologist who manages bears in and around Missoula.

(2026 河北模拟)Ecotourism has become an increasingly popular way for travelers to explore the world while minimizing their environmental impact.Unlike traditional tourism, which often focuses on luxury accommodations and crowded attractions, ecotourism emphasizes responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and improves the wellbeing of local communities.
The core principles of ecotourism include minimizing environmental damage, respecting local cultures, and supporting conservation efforts.Travelers engaging in ecotourism activities typically visit protected areas such as national parks, wildlife reserves, or remote communities. They participate in activities like bird watching, hiking, or learning about traditional crafts from local residents. These experiences not only allow travelers to connect with nature but also contribute to the preservation of fragile ecosystems.
One successful example of ecotourism is the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador.Faced with threats from over-tourism in the 20th century, the government implemented strict regulations to protect the unique wildlife and landscapes.Today, visitors to the Galapagos must follow designated routes, be accompanied by certified guides, and pay a conservation fee that funds environmental protection projects. This approach has helped maintain the islands’ biodiversity while providing income for local communities through tourism.
Another example is Costa Rica, often regarded as a leader in ecotourism. The country has transformed its natural resources into a sustainable tourism industry, with over 25% of its land protected in national parks and reserves.Tourists can explore rainforests, observe sea turtles nesting, or stay in eco-lodges that use renewable energy and support local farmers. This model has not only preserved Costa Rica’s natural beauty but also reduced poverty in rural areas by creating jobs in tourism.
However, ecotourism is not without challenges. Some destinations market themselves as “eco-friendly” without implementing meaningful conservation measures, a practice known as “greenwashing”.Travelers must be cautious and research companies before booking to ensure their tourism dollars support genuine environmental and community initiatives.
Additionally, even well-managed ecotourism can have negative impacts if visitor numbers exceed the carrying capacity of an area, leading to habitat disturbance or increased waste.
To practice responsible ecotourism, experts recommend choosing small-scale, locally owned accommodations, participating in guided tours led by local experts, and following the “leave no trace” principle by taking all trash with you and avoiding damage to plants and wildlife.By making informed choices, travelers can enjoy meaningful experiences while helping to protect the planet for future generations.

With the heat intensifying and a whole day ahead, I planned to visit the art museum again.During my last visit, a new exhibit was being prepared in the front room.I was eager to see the new exhibit, which was thoughtfully put together by a collective of artists.Another plus, of course, was the excellent air conditioning.
Many paintings combined animals with machinery or habitation. One showed a hermit crab (寄居蟹) living in a cactus (仙人掌) with a little wooden-framed glass window. My favorite was a portrait of a
woman with two heads. One head shows her youthful beauty, while the other one represents her as an aged, wise elder. And her hands are joined together in a gesture of wholeness.
Another painting, titled “We Allies”, presented various gentle animals forming angel-like wings.I struck up a conversation with a stranger whose work, taken with a camera, would be on display next month. And I showed her a painting kissing god on my phone’s wallpaper, demonstrating two men’s faces with a golden aura (光 环).She nodded and shared her understanding immediately.
In the museum shop, I found a perfect gift for my wife — a colorful wooden heart with wings, reminding me of a religious symbol. Then I left the museum feeling satisfied and used Google Maps to find the other renowned Anthropology Museum I’d heard about, just a short walk away.
As I walked, the heat seemed to fade into the background, replaced by a sense of purpose and fulfillment. Each step brought me closer not just to the Anthropology Museum, but to a deeper understanding of the world and my place in it.And so, despite the
heat, I continued, eager to embrace whatever the day had left to offer, knowing that every moment, every encounter, was part of my journey of discovery.

(2025 青岛二模)In many parts of the world, the volume of tourists has gone way beyond capacity point.Overtourism, as is known, is now so widespread that many communities are pushing back.In April, activists on Tenerife staged a hunger strike against the building of new tourist projects threatening local water resources.
Similarly, Greek communities initiated the “towel movement” resisting the privatization of coastal spaces that displaced local traditional fishing.
When you see so many people protesting so widely, it tells you that the balance has been lost. The idea that most people benefit from tourism is no longer so clear.Symptoms of overtourism range from everyday problems, such as locals being priced out of restaurants, to deeper issues like the corporate takeover of affordable housing, which has caused widespread public anger.“At the most insignificant level, overtourism makes visiting places less pleasant for those visiting,” says Adrian Phillips, managing director of Bradt Travel Guides.“Most of us would prefer to appreciate St Mark’s Square in Venice without having to compete for space.Besides, it can damage the local landscape, put pressure on local facilities, bend and change traditional culture.”
Thailand’s historic city of Chiang Mai has recently charged a $147.5 fine for tourists wearing unsuitable clothing in temple zones, alongside cultural training for guides assisting international visitors, which comes as the city experiences an explosion in tourism, putting pressure on its culture. The Indonesian island of Bali, where by the middle of 2024, international tourism arrivals — 7.75 million — surpassed those of all of 2019, is also seeing pushback against the rapid-fire expansion of tourism, with hotlines set up to report inappropriate behaviour by foreigners.
In the long run, the key solution to reducing overtourism is to champion the advantages of the many wonderful spots away from the most heavily-visited tourist sites and encourage people to spread their tourist dollars more widely.Rather than set limits on the number of visitors or fine people for visiting famous landmarks, should give full attention to the meaningful experiences, fair economic benefits, and sustainable practices that come with exploring alternatives.
