Even the hardest days contain lessons that will help you be a better person.Feeling down Consider these things to remember when you’re having a bad day.
No one promised life would be perfect. If you look for perfection, you’ll never be content. Don’t lay your happiness on meeting every expectation you set for yourself. It is good to be ambitious, but you’ll never be perfect. If you expect otherwise, your life will be filled with disappointments.
Success doesn’t happen overnight.Trees that are slow to grow bear the best fruit. Don’t kid yourself into thinking success will come quickly. It isn’t easy to be patient, but anything worth doing requires time.If you get frustrated, remind yourself why your goal is important.
There is a lesson in every struggle. And once the storm is over, you won’t remember how you made it through or how you managed to survive. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm, you won’t be the same person who walked in.That’s what this storm is all about.
Don’t complain about how terrible your life is.If you search for the lesson in your present struggle, you’ll be able to make positive changes that would prevent similar situations in the future.
Without hard times, you wouldn’t appreciate the good ones.Strength does not come from winning.Your struggles develop your strength. When you go through hardships and decide not to give in,that is strength. It is hard to find much to smile about when you fail, but how else would you improve yourself If you look at failure as a part of your evolutionary process, you’ll stay positive and pursue your goals for as long as it takes.

Ⅳ.阅读理解(共4题;每题2.5分,共10分)
I once complained to my friend Mike,“I often cycle for two miles from my house to the town centre but unfortunately there is a big hill on the route.” He replied,“You mean fortunately.” He explained that I should be glad of the extra exercise that the hill provided.
My attitude to the hill has now changed.I used to complain as I approached it but now I tell myself the following. This hill will exercise my heart and lungs. It will help me to lose weight and get fit. This hill is my friend. Finally I comfort myself with the thought that all those people who pay money to go to a gym sit on stationary exercise bicycles while I can get the same value for free.I have a smile of satisfaction as I reach the top of the hill.
Problems are there to be faced and overcome. We cannot achieve anything with an easy life.Helen Keller was the first deaf and blind person to gain a university degree. Her activism and writing proved inspirational. She wrote,“Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet.Only through the experience of trials and suffering can the soul be strengthened, vision cleared, ambition inspired, and success achieved.”
One of the main determinants of success in life is our attitude towards adversity. From time to time we all face hardships, problems, accidents and difficulties. Some are of our making but many are no fault of our own. While we cannot choose adversity,we can choose our attitude towards it.
Douglas Bader was 21 when in 1931 he had both legs cut off following a flying accident. He was determined to fly again and went on to become one of the best pilots. He said,“Don’t listen to anyone who tells you that you can’t do this or that. That’s nonsense.Make up your mind, and you’ll never use crutches or a stick, and then have a go at everything.Go to school, and join in all the games you can.Go anywhere you want to.But never ever let them persuade you that things are too difficult or impossible.”
The biographies of great people are full of examples of how they took steps to overcome the difficulties they faced. The common thread is that they did not become depressed. They chose their attitude. They chose to be positive. They took up the challenge. They won. Nevertheless, there is still the problem of how you change your attitude towards adversity.

Ⅳ.应用文写作(15分)
  阅读下面的短文,根据其内容用英语写一篇60个词左右的概要。
Your hunger doesn’t necessarily mean you are really hungry. It is an important sign of what is happening in your body—physically, emotionally and mentally.Sounds strange It is true and here in this article we shall discuss certain things that your hunger is trying to tell you.
When you feel hungry, try to figure out if you are really hungry.Sometimes when you think that you are hungry, you might be thirsty. It is possible that you have been dehydrated (脱水的) for a long time and your body is sending a signal through your hunger. So instead of eating,go for water and quench (解渴) your thirst at the earliest.
If you feel hungry all the time,it could mean that you are depriving (剥夺) yourself of certain foods and hence the body is craving for these. If you are on a strict diet, then go for foods and legumes (豆类) rich in protein along with complex carbohydrates (碳水化合物) like quinoa and brown rice that will take you a long time to digest and will keep you full for a long period of time.
You might get hungry for a certain kind of food only at times. This is because you become emotional about certain foods. For example,if you are happy and celebrating your anniversary, you might end up having a desire for the cake that you bought to celebrate the special occasion. This is called emotional eating.
Sometimes your hunger might mean that you need to take a break. When you end up working at a stretch, and you do not realise that your body needs rest, you can end up feeling hungry as it is a way your body is telling you to break free from work.
Sometimes when you are bored or stressed out,you might feel hungry. It is the body’s way of telling you that you need a change of scene.Go out, take a walk, talk to your dearest friend or simply take some deep breaths.Even after this,if you feel hungry,do eat.Unit 2 课时作业(四)

It is the body’s way of telling you that you need a change of scene.Go out, take a walk, talk to your dearest friend or simply take some deep breaths.Even after this,if you feel hungry,do eat.

A young man wandered through the desert for forty days until he reached a beautiful castle at the top of a mountain. There lived the sage that he was looking for.
With considerable patience, the sage listened attentively to the reason for the boy’s visit, but told him that at that moment he did not have time to explain to him the secret of happiness.
He suggested that the young man take a walk around his palace and come back in two hours’ time.
“However,I want to ask you a favour,” he added, handing the boy a teaspoon,in which he poured two drops of oil.“While you walk, carry this spoon and don’t let the oil spill.”
The young man began to climb up and down the palace’s staircases, always keeping his eyes fixed on the spoon. At the end of two hours he returned to the presence of the wise man.
“So,” asked the sage,“did you see the Persian tapestries (挂毯) hanging in my dining room Did you see the fantastic garden that the master of gardeners spent ten years in creating ”

“So,go back and see the wonders of my world,” said the wise man.“You can’t trust a man if you don’t know his house.”
Now more at ease, the young man took the spoon and wandered again through the palace, this time paying attention to all the works of art that hung from the ceilings and walls. He saw the gardens, the mountains all around the palace, and the delicacy of the flowers. “What a luxurious palace,” he said to himself, leaning against a pillar in the palace.Returning to the sage,he reported in detail what he had seen.
“But where are the two drops of oil that I entrusted to you ” asked the sage.
Looking down at the spoon, the young man realised that he had spilled the oil.
“Well, that is the only advice I have to give you,” said the sage.“The secret of happiness lies in looking at all the wonders of the world and never forgetting the two drops of oil in the spoon.”
