1 Our school planned a charity sale to raise money for left-behind children in mountain areas.We had spent most of our spare time preparing handmade gifts, among which the most precious was a big wooden wind chime(风铃). Every student had carved a warm message or a beautiful pattern on it, making it the special symbol of our kindness and unity. We all hoped it would help us collect more money for those in need.
2 Mr. Brown, our club advisor, had guided us in making the wind chime. He often told me,“The true value of this gift lies not in its perfection, but in the love we put into it." I was chosen to take charge of the wind chime because all my classmates believed I was careful and responsible. On the morning of the charity sale, I held it gently and walked slowly to the school playground, feeling extremely proud. The whole playground was lively, with students busy setting up colourful stands and cheerful laughter floatingin the air. I dreamed of how successful our charity sale would be.
3 Suddenly, a boy running in a hurry knocked into me by accident. I lost my balance at once,and the beloved wind chime fell onto the hard ground. The string broke completely, and the wooden pieces rolled everywhere. One small carved block was even lost in the grass. I froze in shock, with my hands shaking badly. My mind went blank. This was the fruit of our long-time hard work, and we had planned to auction(拍卖)it for the charity.
4 I knelt down quickly to collect the pieces, with tears clouding my eyes. I felt deeply guilty,worrying that Mr. Brown and my classmates would be disappointed. The charity sale would start in just ten minutes, and every second counted. However hard I searched, I failed to find the missing block anywhere. Holding the. broken parts tightly in my hands, I felt totally hopeless. Just as I was on the edge of crying, a soft shadow fell over me.
