When the 2024 Summer Olympic Games kicked off in Paris, the city was trying its best to boost its breathtaking factors. The opening ceremony wouldn’t take place in a stadium, but outside on the River Seine. For the parade of Nations, boats carrying the participating teams would pass by roughly 300,000 audiences gathering on the dock.
Bathed in the myth and memory, the Seine is the lifeblood of the city developing on its banks, which was called “the main street” by Napoleon. Parisian landmarks are on proud display on its banks. So important is it to the city’s existence that building numbers are linked to the river. For Parisians, there’s a strong historical and emotional attachment to the river from their inner minds.
From its source, the Seine flows 483 miles to reach the sea, with the capital sitting nearly in the middle. Its flowing course is changed by continuous floods, but the city never sinks bearing tough waves and severe floods. In the early 18th century, the Seine became so crowded with commercial boat traffic that Napoleon launched a canal project. The network of canals not only eased the water traffic jam, but also brought fresh drinking water to the capital, since water from the Seine was unfit for consumption, causing epidemics.
For several thousand years, life was lived on the river. The Seine’s banks were a gathering place for work and leisure. Housewives washed clothes, dockers unloaded goods, merchants sold their items, and citizens enjoyed the pleasure from sunbathing and swimming. But a different approach to urban planning in the 20th century began to separate people from the river. In the 1960s, highways were constructed directly on the edge of the water. The dock was even transformed into parking lots. Till 2013, the bad situation did get well again, the motorway on the left bank replaced by pedestrians’ path. Much to people’s delight, cyclists and walkers returned to the dock, enjoying new facilities such as climbing walls and floating gardens. A riverside park on the right bank’s motorway followed in the 2016. “We’re now trying to reconnect and rebuild the Seine, bringing life back to it.” says Pierre Rabadan in charge of the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games.

B.Parisian landmarks were built over it.
C.Parisians have strong feelings about it.
D.It witnessed the nation’s prosperity on its sides.
26.What benefit did the canal network bring to Parisians
A.It reduced the water pollution.

In recent years, the field of space exploration has witnessed a major change — commercial space companies have emerged as important participants, breaking the long-term monopoly of national space agencies and opening up new opportunities for space exploration and utilization. Different from national space programs that focus more on scientific research and national security, commercial space companies pay more attention to the market demand and commercial value of space activities.
Commercial space development covers a variety of fields, including satellite launch, space tourism, space resource exploration and space-based services. In terms of satellite launch, commercial space companies have developed more cost-effective launch vehicles, reducing the cost of satellite launch and making it easier for more countries and enterprises to access space resources. Space tourism, as a new emerging industry, has attracted many wealthy individuals who are willing to pay a high price to experience space travel. In addition, commercial companies are also actively exploring space resources, such as lunar soil and asteroid minerals, which are expected to solve the problem of resource shortage on Earth in the future.
The rise of commercial space brings multiple benefits to the world. Firstly, it promotes the innovation of space technology, as commercial companies compete with each other to develop more advanced and efficient space products and services. Secondly, it expands the scope of space exploration and utilization, making space no longer a “privilege” of a few countries but accessible to more entities. Thirdly, the development of commercial space can drive the growth of related industries, such as aerospace manufacturing, electronic information and new materials, promoting global economic development.
However, commercial space development also faces many challenges and risks. The high cost of space technology research and development and the high risk of space activities make it difficult for many commercial companies to survive. In addition, there is a lack of perfect international rules and supervision systems for commercial space activities, which may lead to problems such as space debris pollution and competition for space resources. Moreover, the safety of space tourism and the protection of astronauts’ lives have also become major concerns of the public.
In the future, with the continuous progress of space technology and the improvement of international supervision systems, commercial space will surely develop more healthily and rapidly. It will not only promote the development of space exploration but also bring more new opportunities for human beings to understand the universe and solve global problems. The combination of national space agencies and commercial companies will become the new trend of space exploration, creating a better future for human space activities.
28.What is the major change in the field of space exploration in recent years
A.National space agencies have lost their status completely.
B.Commercial space companies have become important participants.
C.Space exploration has no commercial value anymore.
D.Space travel has become accessible to all people.
29.Which of the following is NOT a field of commercial space development mentioned in the passage
A.Satellite launch
B.Space tourism
C.Space resource exploration
D.Earth resource protection
30.What does the underlined word “monopoly” in Paragraph 1 most probably mean
A.The situation where only one group controls something.
B.The situation where many groups compete with each other.
C.The situation where something is easy to obtain.
D.The situation where something is impossible to achieve.
31.What can we infer from the passage
A.Commercial space development has no risks.
B.International rules for commercial space are perfect now.
C.The combination of national and commercial space forces will be a trend.
D.Space resources are not useful for solving Earth’s resource shortage.
D
Transmitting (输送) information from 40,000 kilometers above Earth might sound like the stuff of science fiction, but Chinese scientists have turned it into reality. They’ve successfully maintained a high-speed laser (激光) link with a high-orbit satellite for over three hours.
According to Xinhua, China has launched multiple high-orbit and low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellites to provide internet services. High-orbit satellites are typically 36,000 kilometers above Earth, while LEO satellites range from a few hundred kilometers to 2,000 kilometers. Due to their higher altitude (高度), high-orbit satellites can cover larger areas.
However, the high altitude can bring problems. The communication between these satellites and the ground isn’t stable, lasting only minutes. Also, while data travels quickly from satellites, signals from Earth are much slower. “It’s like sending someone 10 messages and getting only one reply,” Liu Chao, a researcher from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, told Sichuan Daily. “It’s hard to have an efficient conversation that way.”
To solve these problems, the research team developed a laser communication ground station with a 1.8-meter-wide optical (光学的) telescope in Lijiang, Yunnan province. Acting like a sensitive eye, the station can detect weak signals from over 40,000 kilometers away. Additionally, scientists used a guiding laser to help the satellite and ground station quickly find each other. They also employed precise tracking and real-time corrections to keep the “conversation” stable, reported Sichuan Daily.
The efforts have resulted in a breakthrough. At distances of up to 40,740 kilometers, the ground station and a high-orbit satellite achieved two-way communication in just four seconds. The link, which was as fast as one gigabit (千兆比特) per second, lasted over three hours uninterrupted.
According to Xinhua, this means that high-orbit satellites can not only transmit data quickly but also receive complex instructions in real time. This lays a foundation for upgrading high-orbit satellites from data relay stations into intelligent processing centers in our space network. The experiment also proved the deep-space communication abilities of ground stations. “With this technology, we will be able to communicate with deep space probes (探测器) on the moon, Mars and other locations directly from Earth,” Liu told Sichuan Daily.
32.How does the author introduce the topic
A.By quoting a scientist. B.By making a comparison.
C.By defining a concept. D.By presenting a breakthrough.
33.What challenge do high-orbit satellites face according to paragraph 3
A.Delayed signals from space. B.Slow data transmission to Earth.
C.Poor and unreliable communication. D.Limited amount of received information.
34.What is the function of the guiding laser
A.To speed up data transmission.
B.To correct real-time tracking errors.
C.To receive weak signals from space.
D.To assist satellite-ground connection.
35.What can we infer from Liu Chao’s words
A.Deep-space probes have been widely used.
B.The new technology supports future space exploration.
C.High-orbit satellites are now intelligent processing centers.
D.Laser communication has replaced traditional satellite communication.
“Brain fog” is not a clinical diagnosis (诊断), but a term many individuals use when they experience absent-minded, not sharp, or have difficulty focusing. The brain is an amazing machine that will rebound, but will it return to the previous level 36
Take control of your stress reaction. It’s easy to get into a mindset in which everything is negative. 37 Then you may find something you can give up or alternative strategies to handle. Even simply acknowledging what’s stressing you out can help you handle tough times better.
Check in with your brain. Try an exercise called “five by five”. Set an alarm to ring five times a day and spend five minutes stopping all brain activity. Close your eyes and take a rest or sit outside and look at trees. Go for a walk without listening to a podcast and zone out. 38
39 It may make you feel super productive, but doing many things at once actually annoys your brain, ultimately slowing it down. Instead of trying to balance several things at once, focus on one goal at a time, and make it doable in a 30-minute chunk of time.
Think deeply about one matter every day. This habit directly trains your brain. 40 When you read an interesting article online, spend 15 minutes reflecting on it. When people engage in deeper levels of thinking, they increase the speed of connectivity across the brain’s central executive network by 30%.
Think of these strategies as clearing a foggy window. One small wipe at a time, and soon the view becomes sharp and clear again.
A.Stop multi-tasking.
B.Give your brain a rest.
C.It is like push-ups for your body.
D.The brain has the ability to recover on its own.
E.It may, but only if you do something actively to help.
F.Start by identifying what causes your greatest anxiety.
G.Just five minutes without input is the best way to reset your brain.

Vera stepped into the high school hall, heart pounding. It was her first week, and she held her notebook tightly, scanning the crowd for familiar faces. In middle school, she had learned that smiling widely and agreeing with everyone kept her from being lonely. “I’ll just do what works,” she thought .
At lunch, she saw a girl with long hair sitting alone by the window. “Hi! I’m Vera. Mind if I join you ” she asked, already pulling out a chair. The girl looked up — Becky, according to the name tag on her desk. “Sure,” Becky said, but her tone was flat.
Vera spent the next two weeks trying to win Becky over. She saved the last chocolate for her, laughed loudly at her jokes even when she didn’t get them, and copied Becky’s notes word for word. “Your handwriting is amazing!” she would say. Becky would just nod and turn back to her book.
One afternoon after school, Vera waited by the classroom door, holding a drawing she had made for a movie Becky had said she loved. Through the half-open door, she heard voices. It was Becky, talking to a friend. “Vera is so annoying,” Becky said. “She agrees with everything I say and brings me things every day. She is trying too hard to please everyone. Such a people-pleaser.”
The drawing slipped from Vera’s hand. Her throat felt tight, and her eyes turned red. She ran all the way home, rushed into her room, and threw herself onto the bed. Tears streamed down her face as she hid her face in the pillow. For the first time, her old way of making friends didn’t just feel tiring — it hurt. She thought about all the times she had pretended to like things she hated, just to fit in. Was this really what friendship meant Her quiet sobs filled the room, soft but heartbreaking.

Much to people’s delight, cyclists and walkers returned to the dock...(直到2013年,糟糕的情况才再次好转……
C

【答案】36.E 37.F 38.G 39.A 40.C
根据上文“The brain is an amazing machine that will rebound, but will it return to the previous level (大脑就像一台神奇的机器,能够自我恢复,但它能否恢复到之前的正常状态呢?)”
37.根据后文“Then you may find something you can give up or alternative strategies to handle. Even simply acknowledging what’s stressing you out can help you handle tough times better.(然后你可能会发现一些可以放弃的事情,或者找到应对的办法。哪怕只是承认那些让你感到压力的事情,也能帮助你更好地应对困难时期)”可知,本段主旨为控制压力反应。空后提到“然后你可能会找到可以放弃的事情或替代策略”,说明前文应是识别压力源的步骤。F选项“从找出导致你最大焦虑的原因开始”精准对应“识别压力源”这一行动起点,与后文的“找到解决办法”形成自然顺承,符合问题解决逻辑。
38.根据上文“Check in with your brain. Try an exercise called “five by five”. Set an alarm to ring five times a day and spend five minutes stopping all brain activity. Close your eyes and take a rest or sit outside and look at trees. Go for a walk without listening to a podcast and zone out.(与你的大脑沟通一下。
39.根据后文“It may make you feel super productive, but doing many things at once actually annoys your brain, ultimately slowing it down. Instead of trying to balance several things at once, focus on one goal at a time, and make it doable in a 30-minute chunk of time.(这样做可能会让你感觉效率极高,但实际上同时做很多事情反而会令你的大脑感到厌烦,最终导致大脑运转速度减慢。与其试图同时兼顾多项任务,不如一次专注于一个目标,并将其限定在30分钟内完成)”可知,空后指出“同时做多件事看似高效,实则会拖累大脑”,强调一次专注一件事的益处。A选项“停止多任务处理”是对后文内容的精准概括,适合作为段落小标题或主旨句,引出后续解释。
40.根据上文“Think deeply about one matter every day. This habit directly trains your brain.(每天深入思考一个问题。这个习惯能直接锻炼你的大脑)”以及后文“When you read an interesting article online, spend 15 minutes reflecting on it. When people engage in deeper levels of thinking, they increase the speed of connectivity across the brain’s central executive network by 30%.(当你在网上阅读一篇有趣的文章时,花15分钟时间对其进行思考。

The next morning, Becky recommended a film, but Vera didn’t nod.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Hearing Vera’s cries, Mom came to the door, worried. She sat beside Vera and gently wiped her tears. Vera let it all out — the drawing, the hurtful words, the years of pretending. Her voice cracked as she spoke, each word heavier than the last. Mom listened quietly, her hand resting on Vera’s back. When Vera finally fell silent, Mom wrapped her arms around her, holding her tight. “Real friends don’t need you to be someone else,” she said softly. “Just be yourself.” Vera nodded, her throat still tight, but something inside her chest felt lighter.
The next morning, Becky recommended a film, but Vera didn’t nod. She hesitated, her stomach tightening. The old Vera would have nodded along without a second thought. But this time, she took a quiet breath. “Actually, I didn’t like that film,” she said. Becky looked up, surprised. A brief silence fell between them. Vera’s heart pounded, but she didn’t look away. Then Becky shrugged, “Well, everyone got their own taste,” she said, her voice softer than before. They exchanged a glance, then a real smile. Vera learned that true friendship means being yourself, not pleasing others.
Hearing Vera’s cries, Mom came to the door, worried. She sat beside Vera and gently held her hand. Vera told Mom everything — the drawing, the hurtful words, the years of trying to fit in. Her voice broke, each word heavier than the last. Mom listened quietly, her hand never leaving Vera’s. When Vera finished, Mom pulled her close, “You don’t have to earn friendship, honey. The right people will accept you for who you are.” Vera stared at the ceiling, feeling a small weight lift. Maybe it was time to stop pretending — being herself was enough.
The next morning, Becky recommended a film, but Vera didn’t nod. She felt the old habit pulling her to nod along, but something inside her had changed overnight. She took a slow breath. “I see it differently,” she said quietly. Becky’s eyes widened, confused. But Vera said nothing. She just walked away, her heart pounding, never looking back. A strange feeling rose in her chest — not emptiness, but lightness. For the first time in years, she felt truly free. She’d rather be alone than stuck in a friendship built on lies. Being herself required no one’s permission.
