A video of a German man named Uwe Brutzer who opened a bakery (面包店) in China using workers with hearing disability (残疾) spread on social media on Tuesday, touching many Chinese netizens. The video has had over 30,000 comments and over 110 million views. After the video was published, Brutzer’s bakery was soon crowded with people all over the country.
Born in Germany, Uwe Brutzer and his wife came to China as part of a program by Hunan Disabled Person’s Federation to help children with hearing disability in 2002. “I was looking for a chance to help disabled people and I saw this program,” said Brutzer.
They decided to stay after spending some time with children here. To better help children in need, they learned Chinese sign language. Then they decided to open a store. “At first we sold flowers. Then we found that a bakery might be a better choice because we could make more money. So we opened this one in 2011. I hired a professional German baker and invited her to China to teach my students for four years,” Brutzer said. A child they helped years ago is now one of the workers in the bakery.
The cut in income was the biggest challenge for Brutzer during the COVID-19 outbreak. He had to close the store for safety reasons but he still paid all the workers as usual.
“I want to stay in China as long as I can and teach more and more disabled people so that they can make a living here.” Brutzer added.

School is much more than a place where students gather to learn. For children, school is their first opportunity for social development and introduction to people outside of their family unit. Lessons learned in school go beyond mathematics and language arts. Students learn to develop individual interests and find other people who share their interests.
Music is one of the ways like-minded children come together. When many people talk about the advantages of music education, they are quick to point out all of the measurable results of music-education: many studies show the positive effect music programs can have on children in other areas of study.
Dr. Laurel Trainor, a professor of psychology (心理学), at McMaster University, has said young children who take music lessons show different brain development and improved memory compared to children who do not receive musical training. Stanford University researchers have found that musical training improves how the brain processes the spoken word, a finding that researchers say could lead to improving the reading ability of children who have dyslexia and other reading problems.
Furthermore, in an analysis (分析) of data on more than 25, 000 secondary school students, researchers at the United States Department of Education found that students who report continuous joining in instrumental music during middle-school and high school perform much better in mathematics.
There are many reasons why music education can help to make a child a better student. There is also a social effort that can set the course for lifelong friends and help create social groups that last through school and beyond. Music education contributes to familiarity during a school career, when going from class to class or from school to school every year can cause children to feel nervous.
8. What is the function of the first paragraph
A. To show school is a place to play in.
B. To stress the significance of schooling.
C. To focus on the importance of learning.
D. To lead to the main topic of the passage.
9. Which of the following is a benefit of music education
A. Fewer reading problems.
B. Better family relationships.
C. Better performance in science.
D. Brain development and improved memory.
10. How did the researchers at the United States Department of Education do their research
A. By analyzing reports.
B. By analyzing data.
C. By conducting interviews.
D. By doing an experiment.
11. What is the author’s purpose of writing the passage
A. To show music offers social and understanding benefits.
B. To indicate few schools really focus on music education.
C. To suggest changing schools has a bad effect on everyone.
D. To prove music can make sure you have lots of close friends.

For this Chinese New Year’s Eve, Tiffany Chen is trying something unconventional and ordering in a meal for her family get-together. She used a food delivery service app and searched New Year’s Eve dinner. “I actually found quite a few results! This apparently is a real thing now,” Chen said. The ease of ordering takeaway food is one of many ways technology is changing how Chinese people celebrate Chinese New Year, and this change has been embraced by all generations.
In Shenzhen North Railway Station a week before Chinese New Year, a father hurried to catch a train. Yan Jianlong is from Changsha, the capital of Hunan Province. This year, instead of getting local food or other specialties as gifts, he wanted to buy something high-tech for his 10-year-old son. “I heard he likes these kinds of presents now,” Yan said. Chen Zhiyang, who runs a shop, said robotic toys such as dogs and drones (无人机) were the most popular of all his merchandise (商品). Beijing resident Wang Xiaoya said she would visit a friend in Brazil this year, and she could do so without feeling like she had neglected (忽视) her family since she would chat online to her mother and grandparents during the holidays. This technology is not the preserve of the young — Wang’s grandmother has learnt how to use smartphones. “It has really made it more convenient for families and friends to get closer,” Wang’s grandmother said.
There have been questions about whether technology has changed the atmosphere at Chinese New Year and whether it means people have become lazy. “I think what technology has changed is only a formality,” Chen said. “It does not matter how you celebrate the festival, whether you are eating in, eating out, or ordering — the most valuable thing is who you celebrate it with.”
12. What did Tiffany Chen do for this Chinese New Year’s Eve
A. She ordered a takeout family meal.
B. She cooked a special dish for her parents.
C. She helped her parents prepare the family dinner.
D. She booked a table at her favorite restaurant online.
13. What did the goods sold in Chen Zhiyang’s shop show
A. Local food is widely accepted.
B. Giving gifts is an important tradition.
C. Kids are excited about Chinese New Year.
D. High-tech gifts are getting popular among kids.
14. What is the attitude of Wang Xiaoya’s grandmother to smartphones
A. Unclear. B. Supportive. C. Doubtful. D. Uninterested.

I’m Li Hua, and I feel greatly honored to deliver a speech here, whose theme is about the magic of music.
There was a time when I was extremely anxious before final exams. I was so nervous that I even couldn’t fall asleep at night, and my academic performance was affected as a result. Later, I tried to listen to light music when I felt tense. To my surprise, my anxiety gradually faded away, and I calmed down easily. With the company of music, I got a good rest and finally achieved satisfying grades in the exams.

There is a homeless (or at least very poor) woman who sometimes is sitting near where I am living. begging for money. Unfortunately, the “inner city places” are often being “strongly requested” by younger men and women who take over the space.
Whenever I see her, I make sure to give her something, and if I am out of money, at least I talk to her for a few seconds. When younger people are around, I often make sure to drop a few coins into her cup while passing her a note without anybody seeing it in the hope that they will leave her alone.
Today she surprised me. I was passing her again, giving her some money, and asked her how she was. She surprised me by saying that she wanted to thank me. Not for the money. Well, for that too, but for always taking the time to talk to her.
She mentioned how hard it is for her to have so little money that she has to beg. She often feels ashamed, but she now has prepared for several days to talk to me, and to thank me for treating her as a human being. Some people only walked by or sometimes dropped some money. But they never made eye contact or talked to her. which made her feel even more ashamed, almost non-human. She said she was looking forward to my walking by because she knew I would look at her and see a person. On hearing all this, I had tears in my eyes, and still do, when thinking of this.
I still don’t know why she is on the street. Maybe one day she will open up, but I will not ask her right away. But I will be even more on the lookout for her, making sure to talk to her as often as possible!

【答案】One day she mentioned her unhappy experiences to me. She used to have a whole family though it was not rich. Her husband was a taxi driver and she took care of the home, looking after their two children, both of whom were at school. She herself did not have a job and only depended on her husband’s income to support the family. But unfortunately, her husband died in a car accident last year, so her family got into trouble. She had to beg to survive.
I felt sorry for her and decided to help her out. I first discussed with my friends about how to help her. We finally decided to raise money for her in the community, and we also did so online. People responded enthusiastically to our appeal by donating money. So we quickly raised a big sum of money. We suggested that the lady use the money for certain business. She followed our advice and started a fruit business. The daily income was enough to support her family without begging. I’m so glad to see that. Although I spent much time and energy helping her, I gained considerable satisfaction and happiness.云南省新纪元云贵发展中心2025-2026学年高一下学期
