Will artificial intelligence(AI) replace my job This is a question that many people think about these days.At present, the application of AI robotics in professional fields, as well as ChatGPT’s abilities to write essays, solve complex problems and more, have heightened moral concerns.
Some people see AI as the ultimate cure for society’s most fundamental problems, while others fear that AI will overtake human intelligence. These two views are based on the assumption that AI is better and smarter than humanity and may ultimately replace human decision-making.But given the fact that technology is the product of human civilization, the challenge from AI is something we have created for ourselves as we keep pushing our own boundaries. In other words, AI’s progress, functions and future direction are all determined by the human brain.
Before AI becomes a threat to humanity, the international community should reach an agreement on the role it is to play.More importantly, related laws and regulations must ensure that AI will benefit society and prevent it from threatening human life.Robots, for example, are believed to develop emotional intelligence sometime, which enables them to recognize, understand and express emotions in a way that is similar to humans, but we must avoid AI copying human emotions.Without legal restrictions, AI may become a social disaster.
The AI-driven new industrial revolution is irreversible. This, like previous ones, which introduced changes that had been unimaginable before, will certainly affect human employment. But it always turned out that humanity was able to adapt to each industrial revolution and create new forms of employment. Therefore, it’s unnecessary to worry that AI will replace our jobs. While technology advances at a rapid pace, what we need to do is to welcome the AI era rather than block its unfolding for fear of the unknown.

Some scientists fear researchers are misusing ChatGPT and other artificial intelligence(AI) chatbots to produce scientific literature, citing a rise in questionable AI words in published papers. Some of these remarks—such as the careless inclusion of “certainly, here is a possible introduction for your topic” in a recent paper from Elsevier Inc.’s Surfaces and Interfaces—are reasonably obvious evidence that a scientist used an AI chatbot known as a large language model(LLM).But “that’s probably only the tip of the iceberg,” says Elisabeth Bik.A representative of Elsevier Inc.told SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN that the publisher regrets the situation and is investigating how the paper could have “slipped through” the evaluation process.
LLMs are designed to generate text, but what they produce may or may not be accurate.“The problem is that these tools are not good enough yet to trust,” Bik says. They’ll fall into what computer scientists call hallucinations:simply put, they make stuff up.“Specifically, for scientific papers,” Bik notes, an AI “will generate references that don’t exist.” So if scientists place too much anaclisis in LLMs, study authors risk putting AI-produced mistakes into their work, mixing more potential for error into the already messy reality of scientific publishing.
Andrew Gray, a librarian and researcher at University College London, recently hunted for AI buzzwords(流行语) in scientific papers using Dimensions, a data-analytics platform that its developers say tracks more than 140 million papers worldwide. He searched for words improperly used by chatbots, such as “intricate” “meticulous” and “commendable”.These indicator words, he says, show the problem more clearly than any “giveaway” AI phrase a careless author might copy into a paper. At least 60,000 papers—slightly more than 1 percent of all scientific articles published globally last year—may have used an LLM,according to Gray’s analysis.Other studies that focused specifically on subsections of science suggest even more reliance on LLMs.One such investigation found that up to 17.5 percent of recent computer science papers exhibit signs of AI writing.

6.What does the underlined word “anaclisis” in Paragraph 2 mean
A.Curiosity. B.Research.
C.Time. D.Trust.
【解析】选D。词义猜测题。根据第二段中的“So if scientists place too much anaclisis in LLMs,study authors risk putting AI-produced mistakes into their work”可知,若科研人员过度依赖LLMs,论文作者便有可能将AI生成的错误内容纳入研究成果, 因此anaclisis表示的是“依赖,信任”。
7.What does the last paragraph indicate about the use of LLMs
A.It is rare for scientific papers to use LLMs.
B.Computer science papers show obvious signs of AI writing.
C.Using LLMs in scientific papers is the first choice for authors.
D.It is easy for authors to find their mistakes with the help of LLMs.
【解析】选B。细节理解题。根据最后一段中的“One such investigation found that up to 17.5 percent of recent computer science papers exhibit signs of AI writing”可知,计算机科学论文中使用AI写作的迹象明显。

During puberty(青春期), your body goes through many changes, and you start forming a body image—how you see, think, and feel about your body’s size, shape, and weight, or specific features like your nose. 1 For instance, you may believe your nose is too big or too small, even though it looks perfectly normal.
2 One major influence is peer(同龄人) pressure.Your friends might make casual jokes about your appearance, or you might compare yourself to them and feel they look better.Such experiences can harm the way you view yourself.Another powerful influence is the media, which often promotes a narrow, ideal body type. For example, if fair skin is portrayed as beautiful, you may feel insecure if you don’t match that ideal.
Developing a negative body image can lead to unhealthy behaviors, such as extreme dieting, overexercising, or even risky plastic surgeries. 3 When you focus too much on appearance, you may forget to appreciate other great things about yourself, such as your talents and personality.
To build a positive body image, it’s essential to remember that no perfect body exists, as beauty standards are always changing.Models and celebrities may appear flawless in the media, but much of their appearance is due to makeup, angles, lighting, and editing. 4
Rather than focusing on appearances, value people for their true selves.By surrounding yourself with positive influences and avoiding comments on looks, you can redirect your attention from self-criticism. 5 Over time, you’ll build inner confidence and develop a healthier, more accepting relationship with your body.
A.Many factors shape your body image.
B.It also lowers your overall life satisfaction.
C.However, your true beauty lies within your heart.
D.External judgement can be a double-edged sword.
E.Without these tricks, they are just as “imperfect” as everyone else.
F.Surprisingly, body image is shaped more by your thoughts than by reality.
G.This shift enables you to recognize and celebrate your talents and strengths.

Robots are separated into two parts:the brain and the body.An AI brain can help run the traffic system of a city, but many robots still struggle to open a door—why is that
“Software has advanced rapidly in recent years, but hardware has not kept up.Currently, all robots rely on electricity and software to function. The robotic brain composed of software translates information to the body or hardware through an encoder(编码器), which then performs an action,” said Dr Antonio Forte, a senior lecturer in engineering at King’s College London.
To overcome this, Forte’s team developed a circuit by integrating liquid-based circuits with an adjustable valve(阀) placed within a robot’s hardware. This valve acts like a switch in a normal circuit and engineers can send signals directly to hardware using variations in pressure from liquid inside, allowing the robot to perform complex tasks without the need for electricity or instruction from the central brain. This leads robots to function independently in challenging environments, such as low-income countries that do not have reliable access to electricity.
Independent from the software running it, the advanced hardware system carries the majority of computational load by itself. This opens up the possibility of a new generation of robots, whose bodies could operate independently of their built-in control center, with this space potentially being used instead for more complex AI-powered software, and consequently they can be more aware of their social context, which provides for a new kind of robotics in places like social care and mass production.
“Ultimately, without investment in such fields robots will stay at a certain level after a period of growth.Soon, if we do not offload the computational tasks that modern-day robots take on, computing improvements will have little impact on their performance. The work is just a first step on this path, but the future holds smarter robots with smarter bodies,” Mostafa Mousa, a post-graduate researcher at King’s College London, commented.

Lotus, ginkgoes, Chinese roses...On the campus of Beijing 101 Middle School, there are more than 200 types of plants. To keep a record of the rich natural resources there, the school’s students made a beautiful book: Flora of 101.
“We chose 30 plants to show with pictures, basic information and particularly, a poem for each plant written by ourselves,” said 17-year-old Wang Jianyuan, the chief editor of the book.
The poems are not just describing the plants. They also reflect students’ stories. “One day I was a little upset when I smelt a fragrance(芳香).Looking down, I saw humifuse euphorbia, or dijincao(地锦草), a very common plant.Suddenly I felt comforted—it just grows and gives off a sweet scent, regardless of people stepping on it.So I wrote a poem for it,” said Wang Jianyuan.
“Every poem in the book shows students’ unique understanding of the plants, showing our school’s character and spirit through the book,” Wang Jianyuan added.
Wang Jingyue, 17, painted the pictures for the book.“Many students in our school love painting. We took photos of the plants and drew them in a realistic style,” Wang Jingyue said.“Sitting there and painting give us a chance to closely watch a plant and connect with it.It feels amazing.”
The students plan to print 300 copies of the book this September to give out to new students.“We hope the younger students can fall in love with the plants and the ecosystem in our school.Hopefully, when they walk along the green alleys(小径), they can find peace and inspiration,” said Wang Jianyuan.

Bering Sea snow crabs(蟹) are well suited for Arctic(北极的) conditions. But the southeastern Bering Sea is changing to more subarctic conditions through a process called borealization(北方化), according to a report released by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. It’s a process that’s also happening in ecosystems on land in Alaska. As a result, cold-water species like snow crabs move away or struggle to survive, while species typically found in warmer regions may spread into borealized areas.
“Like the Arctic ecosystem on land around Kotzebue is traditionally tundra and frozen, you don’t have plants. But as you borealize, you get more plants, even trees. So you can imagine what a huge transformation it is to go from treeless areas to forests. And it’s the same type of thing going from ice-associated to ice-free all year,” Mike Litozov, the lead author of the report, said.
This borealization, brought on by human-caused climate change, has more negative effects on snow crabs in the southeastern Bering Sea.That includes shifts in food availability for snow crabs, which means the species may face starvation, and an increased incidence of bitter crab disease. These were all evident in 2018—2019 when the special barrier—a cold pool of water in the Bering Sea—disappeared, bringing on extreme ecosystem changes that allowed different species of groundfish to move further north.Litozov and his team had previously confirmed that a combination of these factors caused the crash of snow crab populations between the years 2018 and 2019, when the species decreased by more than 90%.The population still hasn’t recovered.
After the last two back-to-back years without a commercial fishery, fishermen have also not fully recovered. The new report indicates the fishery may be entirely displaced in the coming decades.“The recent changes are not part of a one-off event and ecosystem-wide changes are expected to continue to affect snow crab populations in the future,” Litozov said.

Marine mammals(海洋哺乳动物) are up against many dangers, many brought about by humans. 9 .
Reduce the use of plastic
Our oceans see increasing plastic trash which endangers marine mammals. 10 . They can become trapped in plastic, which can cause them to suffocate(闷死).Some marine mammals can mistake plastic for food, eat it, and die.Plastic trash in the ocean also causes lacerations(割伤) to these animals, leading to infection and death. So reduce using plastic to protect marine mammals.
Help clean up the beaches
11 .Do not leave trash or objects on the beach.Anything you leave on the beach can end up in the water, having the potential to impact or harm what’s living in the water. Many organizations help clean up the beaches and protect ocean life and marine mammals. If we live or visit a beach, look for one you can connect with to join their efforts.
Follow boating laws
Knowing and following the laws is essential whether you live near the ocean or only travel there occasionally. They are in place for a reason. 12 .Following these rules can help keep marine mammals like manatees safe. It’s also advised not to crowd marine mammals when we see them.If there have already been boats observing them, wait our time to give others a chance to watch them.
 13
Learn more about the ocean and marine wildlife. When we truly learn about a topic, it helps us understand its importance.Devote time to learning about marine mammals and why we need to act to protect them and our oceans.Visit educational bases working on protecting these animals to learn what you can do to make a difference.

【文章大意】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要探讨了在撰写科学文献时对AI聊天机器人的过度依赖带来的潜在风险问题。

A.Curiosity. B.Research.
C.Time. D.Trust.
8.What is the main idea of the text

Jim Johnson, a mail carrier, was an institution in the leafy Westmoreland, Westhaven and Westover Hills neighborhoods, just north of downtown Wilmington, where he delivered much more than the mail.He knew all the kids and their pets by name;he carried in the groceries;he took note of unlocked doors, offered gardening advice, and taught more than a few young boys the art of the curveball. When he wasn’t doing all that, Jim was running across a checkerboard of green lawns(草坪) to ensure the local postal service did not fall short of its daily promise.
Though the postal service is often disparaged now, the trust in local postal service lives on.In many communities, that trust is won every day when life-saving medicine, greeting cards, social security checks, college acceptance letters—even the bills—appear in mailboxes in front of the houses.
After more than three decades, Jim approached his final days on the job much like any other. He drove a boxy postal truck to North DuPont Road for the first unofficial stop of the day.Butch, a dog who belonged to one of the neighbors, was waiting just like every day before. And just like every day before, he got into the jump seat and they were off.On the route, Jim and Butch had become inseparable. Now, the dog and the mailman would ride off to retirement together. At every stop, Jim accepted the parting good wishes of families that had become his own. There were tears and laughter, and hugs filled with warm memories.

As night falls on the streets of Shanghai,Ms Chen can often be found pacing up and down through the winding narrow streets of the city hunting for discarded items.
“I pick up all sorts of things, chairs, wine boxes, bowls and cups...It’s like treasure hunting for me,” she says. The 27-year-old digital marketer is among the first adopters of “stooping” in China,a practice that refers to picking up discarded furniture and other goods on the streets for reuse. She says the concept “stooping” was inspired by New Yorkers who often leave unwanted things on the “stoops”—or doorsteps—leading up to the entrances of buildings.
“The core concept of stooping for me is to take full advantage of things,” Ms Chen says.“It can help you to save money, but it’s not just about reducing consumption. It’s wasteful to throw away something that’s still usable;it’s better to share it with others who need it.”
Ms Chen says she was among the first to use the hashtag(话题标签) “stooping” on a popular social networking platform in China.“I initially started with posting items that people no longer used and wanted to throw away or exchange...gradually I’m receiving hundreds of messages each day,” she says.Since then, the trend has become increasingly popular.
Ms Chen says she is “very surprised” the concept has become a hit on social media,as older generations often stigmatize picking up things from the street or using second-hand goods.“People like my mum consider stooping as ‘rubbish picking’ and ‘scavenging’,” she says.“She thinks that people will look down on you for doing this.” For Nan Zheng,an environmentalist and advocate, stooping is more than the physical act of picking up things from the streets. He created an app called “Grecycle” where people can give away or take unwanted items for free.“Gradually we can let people know this can also be about charity and helping others,” Mr Nan says.

From beautiful bronze(青铜) wine cups to grand bronze ding(food containers), this exhibition features discoveries that will fundamentally change visitors’ understanding of ancient Chinese civilization.
At about the same time that Stonehenge was rising in England, a Bronze Age culture was developing in China that in many respects was seldom equaled and never surpassed. This development seemed to have begun by 1600 BC in the Shang Dynasty along the Yellow River. For thousands of years, this area had witnessed cultures of increasing complexity, which laid the foundation of the Chinese civilization.By the time of the Bronze Age, this culture was characterized by a strong centralized government, urban communities with obvious social classes, a distinctive system of writing, strict religious rituals, diversified art forms, and advanced bronze-producing methods.
Unlike other cultures, where bronze was first used chiefly for tools and weapons, in China, bronze was used to make vessels(容器) that played central roles in official ceremonies and ancestor worship for more than 1,000 years, even after the official beginnings of the Iron Age in 400 BC.Possession of bronze vessels thus became a symbol for the holding of power and rulers used bronze cups and food containers to present offerings of food and wine to royal ancestors and gods.
During Shang times, wine played a major part in such ceremonies, and containers for wine therefore far outnumbered other types. Then, the Shang were criticized for too much wine drinking by its enemy, the Zhou, who felt that the drinking had offended Heaven and given the Zhou the right to overthrow the Shang.Safeguarding its own dynasty, the Zhou replaced the wine vessels with more practical cooking and storage tools.
After the Shang period, bronze vessels became more important as expressions of personal status than as vehicles for official ceremonies. This is evident from the changing content of bronze inscriptions.Carved into the surface of a vessel, these writings first appeared during the late Shang period as an identification of the vessel’s owner or of the ancestor to whom it was dedicated.During the Western Zhou period, inscriptions became increasingly common and lengthier, praising the achievements of the owners.

Scientists have uncovered communities of animals living in volcanic caves beneath the seafloor, revealing a previously unknown but thriving ecosystem.Previous research had found microbes(微生物) living underground near hydrothermal vents(热液喷口), but this is the first reported discovery of larger animals such as tubeworms and snails in the underground habitat.
Hydrothermal vents are cracks in the seafloor where hot water from the Earth’s core mixes with seawater.Much of the ocean floor is considered nearly uninhabitable. But around hydrothermal vents there’s an explosion of munities of shrimp, crabs, tubeworms and hundreds of unique animal species have been previously found, but not underneath these vents. They’re known as “extremophiles”, or life that can survive under extremely high temperatures and pressure. These species survive not on the sun’s energy, which fuels the food web elsewhere on Earth, but on nutrients produced when seawater mixes with magma.
Recent scientific research has revealed that tubeworms and sea snails can be found not only on top of the seafloor but also underneath rocky sections. This discovery has the potential to significantly advance our understanding of these species’ life cycle and behavior. The researchers think tubeworms might disperse throughout the caves, with some settling and growing in cracks on the seafloor and others staying in the caves and growing to adulthood there—which would mean the seafloor and small caves underneath are an interconnected ecosystem, where cold and warm water flows mix and promote tubeworm growth.
The hydrothermal vent ecosystem in this area is not restricted to what we see above but includes life in the subsurface.Deep-sea mining, which involves extracting(获取) minerals from the deep seabed, is a major threat to deep-sea ecosystems and is opposed by scientists and conservation organizations.“We don’t know how extensive those connected little caves are, and we’re unable to assess the biodiversity within the subsurface.Since seafloor ecosystems are likely interconnected, large stretches of the seafloor need to be protected,” says Rachel Lauer, a geologist at the University of Calgary.

The afternoon sun was setting below the pine trees when 13-year-old Emily encountered the trembling creature.Beneath a fallen branch lay a young kestrel(红隼), its brown feathers covered with mud, one wing bent at an unnatural angle. Her heart ached. She remembered Grandpa’s words from last summer:“Wild things need courage more than pity, but sometimes they need both.” Kneeling, she extended a gentle hand. The bird’s amber eyes met hers, showing fear and resistance.
Carefully wrapping the kestrel in her sweatshirt, Emily hurried home.Mom, a clinic doctor, examined the bird with practiced hands.“Its wing is broken,” she said, “but with care, it might fly again.” Emily’s resolve hardened. For weeks, she transformed the garage into a shelter. She lined a cardboard box with hay, hung it from the ceiling, and studied bird caring handbooks late into the night. The kestrel, now named Rosy, resisted at first, hitting at the board on its wing.Yet each time Emily sang Grandpa’s favorite tune—You Are My Sunshine—the bird stilled, holding its head as if decoding the melody.
Progress was painfully slow.Rosy’s wing trembled during daily exercises, and Emily’s hands bore scratches from feeding it raw meat.“Patience, Emily,” Mom reminded, handing her clean wipes.By the third week, Rosy began jumping between its resting places, its feathers regaining a coppery color. One twilight, as Emily sat cross-legged beside the cage, the kestrel flapped(拍打) once, twice—lifting a full inch before landing clumsily.“You did it!” she cried, heart pounding.
Then came the stormy night.Lightning knocked out the power, turning the garage into darkness.Emily rushed downstairs, flashlight trembling in her hand. The cage door swung open—empty! Rain hit the windows as she eagerly searched.“Rosy can’t survive this!” she choked.Just as despair set in, a familiar chirp(鸟叫声) above.High in the ceiling, Rosy flapped its healed wing rhythmically, raindrops glistening on its feathers like stars.Emily laughed through tears.Against all odds, hope had taken flight.

The morning of Rosy’s release arrived, fresh and golden.Emily cradled the kestrel gently, feeling its heartbeat sync with hers.At the forest edge, she knelt and opened her hands.Rosy hesitated, tilting its head as if memorizing her face. Then, with a fierce flap, it soared into the sky, tracing circles above the pines.Tears welled in Emily’s eyes, but her smile widened—this was freedom earned, not stolen. When Rosy’s figure melted into the horizon, she whispered, “Fly strong, little warrior.” A distant chirp echoed back, weaving her sorrow into pride.
Years later, Emily recognized a familiar figure at a wildlife shelter.A kestrel with brown feathers landed near her, one leg bearing a tiny tag she’d crafted long ago.“Rosy ” she breathed. The bird chirped, jumping closer. As sunlight ran through the trees, Emily was thrilled—this was no longer rescue, but reunion. She snapped a photo, captioning it later:“Wild hearts find their way home.” Children at the shelter would hear this tale, learning that courage and care could mend both wings and worlds.核心素养测评 (25分钟 32.5分)

【文章大意】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述了人为气候变化导致白令海北方化,白令海雪蟹的生存受到威胁,种群数量大幅下降。

A.Educate ourselves
B.Encourage ourselves to act
C.There are many ways it is harming marine mammals
D.Thankfully, there are simple things we can do to help
E.Leave the beach like or better than we find it if we visit the beach
F.In addition, do our homework and buy seafood from those who follow fishing laws
G.For example, certain waterways are protected areas with speed limitations for boaters
【文章大意】本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了保护海洋哺乳动物的一些具体措施,包括减少塑料使用、清理海滩、遵守航行法规和加强海洋知识教育。
9.【解析】选D。前文“Marine mammals are up against many dangers, many brought about by humans.”
前文“Our oceans see increasing plastic trash which endangers marine mammals.”
本段小标题是“Help clean up the beaches”,后文“Do not leave trash or objects on the beach.Anything you leave on the beach can end up in the water, having the potential to impact or harm what’s living in the water.”具体建议不要在海滩上留下物品,并解释原因,此处需提出海滩行为的一般准则,因此E项“Leave the beach like or better than we find it if we visit the beach(离开海滩时保持或做到比来时更干净的状态)”符合语境,呼应清理的主题。故选E。
12.【解析】选G。前文“Knowing and following the laws is essential whether you live near the ocean or only travel there occasionally. They are in place for a reason.”强调遵守航行法规,后文“Following these rules can help keep marine mammals like manatees safe.”说明遵守具体规则的作用,此处需列出具体法律案例,因此G项“For example, certain waterways are protected areas with speed limitations for boaters(例如,某些水道是保护区,对船只驾驶者实施限速)”符合语境,承前启后。故选G。
13.【解析】选A。后文“Learn more about the ocean and marine wildlife.”和“Visit educational bases working on protecting these animals to learn what you can do to make a difference.”建议学习海洋知识以及参观教育基地,均与教育相关,此处是段落标题,应建议做好海洋教育,且需和其他段落标题一样使用祈使句的形式,因此A项“Educate ourselves(自我教育)”符合语境,概括后文的行动。故选A。
