(2026·辽宁模拟)
I’m Eden.Growing up, I’ve always really struggled with my confidence.I tried various things to enhance it, like workouts.I really enjoyed them, but I struggled to find a sense of community and really connect with the workout and what it stood for. Then I started taekwondo(跆拳道).On my first day, I was scared to enter the stadium and I remember assuming I was just there to try and see what it was all about without thinking of it as part of my life.
But then I fell in love with taekwondo.I met loads of people from different clubs, from all across the UK and from all diverse backgrounds, ages and genders(性别).Our shared passion in taekwondo connected us.We poured much time into training, travelling, and competing.Over the last two years I’ve experienced a long-term health condition. The assistance of my taekwondo family, especially my coach, has really helped me weather(平安地度过) tough times.
Some unforgettable moments about taekwondo are deeply rooted in my memory. When I was only 11 years old, I had to open the competition in front of 400 people, which sounded rather frightening! But it was a real opportunity to do something I never thought I could, and I remember feeling proud of myself.Another standout moment was when I started coaching the younger students in the club.I was 15 and always enjoyed working with children and young people, but never had the chance to take on a more active role. Two years later I got my assistant coaching qualification and was one of the first in Northern Ireland to get that.
When I was in school, I remember being really excited to go training and get away from the highly stressful, academic environment and all the revision that came with it.Taekwondo was where I could de-stress and completely switch off from what else might be happening in my life, and I’m really grateful for that positive, safe space.

Traditionally, business associates would get to know each other over a round of golf, but road cycling is fast catching up as the preferred networking way for modern professionals.A growing number of corporate-sponsored charity bike rides and city cycle clubs are providing ideal opportunities to talk shop with like-minded workmates and clients while discussing different bike frames. Many believe cycling is better than golf for building lasting working relationships or landing a new job because it is less competitive.
Peter Murray, a former architect, explains:“When you play golf with somebody, you have to decide if you’re going to beat them, or let them beat you.If they’re a client and you don’t want to beat them, you have to sort of cheat to lose. That’s not a good way.” Group cycling, especially long-distance riding, is a shared experience where riders work together, taking turns at the front to help others save almost a third of the effort.A keen long-distance rider, Murray founded the annual Cycle to Cannes in 2005—a six-day charity event where architects cycle 1,500 km from London to the MIPIM property fair in France each March, having raised £4.5 m for charities.
Jean-Jacques Lorraine, a regular participant, says cycling reveals character:“Conversations flow easily.I often say things I wouldn’t normally, and others share things with me unexpectedly. Some riders are single-minded, others cooperative;some plan cleverly, others an open book.”
Simon Mottram, CEO of Rapha, notes long-distance cycling lifts mood, focusing on riding and companions.“The rhythm of fuelling, riding, celebrating eases life’s stresses.” Unlike quick post-work meals, long rides allow deeper connections and break the gap between higher and lower positions:“A younger rider might help a CEO, changing their off-ride relationship.”
Perhaps the most compelling reason why cycling is a good way to network is that, for many professionals, it’s a passion and a way of life they share.“It’s what we dream of while at our computers,” Mottram adds.
【文章大意】本文是一篇说明文。文章指出公路骑行正取代高尔夫成为现代职场人首选社交方式,介绍相关活动,借多人观点说明骑行因竞争性低、显性格等更利于职场社交。
5.What does the first paragraph mainly tell us
A.Staff discuss frames more than work.
B.Cycling becomes a professional social hit.
C.Corporate charities center on cycling.
D.Golf was a popular networking method.
6.What is the main purpose of the annual Cycle to Cannes
A.To promote architects’ competition.
B.To collect money for charitable causes.
C.To popularize long-distance cycling.
D.To display various bike frames at a fair.
【解析】选B。推理判断题。根据第二段中“A keen long-distance rider, Murray founded the annual Cycle to Cannes in 2005—a six-day charity event where architects cycle 1,500 km from London to the MIPIM property fair in France each March, having raised £4.5 m for charities.”可知,这是一个慈善活动,已经为慈善机构筹集了450 万英镑,所以该活动的主要目的是为慈善事业筹款。故选B。

B.It is a shared passion for many.
C.It lifts mood and eases stress.
D.It shows character and eases talks.

8.What does the underlined word “compelling” in Paragraph 5 mean
A.Outdated. B.Similar.
C.Convincing. D.Disturbing.
【解析】选C。词句猜测题。根据最后一段“Perhaps the most compelling reason why cycling is a good way to network is that, for many professionals, it’s a passion and a way of life they share.”并结合前文讲述的骑行在社交方面的各种好处,这里应该是说最有说服力的原因,故选C。

(2026·河南模拟)
A team of researchers from the Hefei Institutes of Physical Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences has developed an innovative green pesticide formulation(农药配方) that promises to strengthen control of harmful insects while prioritizing safety for both crops and the environment.“This new pesticide represents a more environmentally friendly alternative to traditional pesticides,” said Prof.Wu Zhengyan, who led the research team. The findings of this study were published in ACS Nano.
Traditional pesticides often face several challenges, including uneven application on plant leaves, tendency to be washed away by rain, and rapid decomposition(分解) under sunlight.Additionally, remaining chemicals from these formulations can pose environmental risks. Therefore, in this study, the team engineered a new pesticide formulation to enhance adhesion to leaves, resist sunlight decomposition, and provide a gradual release of the active ingredient for sustained effectiveness.
The success of this new formulation lies in its unique structure. The carbon dots combined with calcium carbonate(CaCO3) increase the pesticide’s capacity to hold more abamectin(阿维菌素)—approximately 1.7 to 2.1 times more than conventional formulations. This allows for greater effectiveness while using less active ingredient. When the pesticide contacts the weakly acidic environment on plant leaves, the calcium carbonate breaks down, facilitating a quicker release of the pesticide and enabling easier tracking through the lights released by the carbon dots. This “controlled release” mechanism ensures that the pesticide remains active, even in challenging conditions such as UV light or rain.
In tests conducted on the diamondback moth(小菜蛾), a common agricultural threat, the new formulation demonstrated excellent pest control both indoors and outdoors.Importantly, it also minimizes environmental pared to traditional pesticides, this new formulation showed reduced poisonousness to non-target animals.
Furthermore, once the pesticide has released its active ingredient, the remaining materials decompose into harmless substances like calcium ions(Ca2+), carbon dioxide(CO2), and carbon dots, significantly lowering the risk of pollution.

It was a sunny Sunday, and a group of high school students, including Alex, Lily, and Tom, volunteered to clean up the local park. They’d noticed the park’s steady decline over weeks—soda cans bobbing in the pond and plastic bags snagged on tree branches—and decided to take action.Armed with gloves, rubbish grabbers, and large bin bags, they met at the park entrance, ready to tackle the mess.
As they started their work, they quickly realized the task was more challenging than they expected. The rubbish seemed endless:a broken kite string wrapped around a bench and even a discarded shoe near the playground.Lily sighed as she fished a crumpled juice box from the pond.“This is like a never-ending puzzle,” she joked, though her brow was furrowed. But they pressed on, Alex taking the north end by the picnic area, Tom tackling the trail loop, and Lily focusing on the pond and surrounding greenery, their laughter echoing as they turned it into a friendly competition.
However, as they cleaned, a group of younger kids—around seven or eight—burst onto the scene, chasing a soccer ball. They dropped wrappers and bottles without a second thought.Alex, wiping sweat from his forehead, approached them with a smile.“Hey guys, could you throw those in the bin We’re trying to clean up the park.” One kid stuck out his tongue;another snickered, “Why It’s not our job.” They ran off, leaving more rubbish in the park.
This made the volunteers pause, frustration simmering. We’re not here to be their servants, Tom whispered, kicking a pebble.Alex nodded, but added, “Yelling won’t help. They’re just kids—maybe they don’t get why it matters.” Lily bit her lip, watching the kids race around a tree.“What if we showed them instead of telling them ” she said, her eyes lighting up.

Lily had a simple idea and told Alex and Tom.She suggested they create a small poster with pictures of the clean park before and the messy one now, and add some fun facts about keeping the environment clean. They could then show it to the kids and explain why it was important to take care of the park.Alex and Tom thought it was a great idea, and they quickly got to work. They found some cardboard and markers and started drawing.
The kids soon noticed what the volunteers were doing. They gathered around, curious. One of the boys pointed at the poster and asked, “What’s that ” Lily smiled and said, “It’s a picture of our park.Look how nice it was before, and look how messy it is now.We want to make it clean again, but we need your help.Do you want to help us ” The kids looked at each other, then nodded. They picked up some rubbish and threw it in the bin.Alex, Tom, and Lily cheered, and the kids grinned, proud of themselves. From then on, the kids became regular volunteers at the park, helping to keep it clean and beautiful.核心素养测评 (30分钟 40分)

Last April, after I published an essay about poetry as part of National Poetry Month, an editor told me he’d often thought that the world would be a better place if we had a poem delivered to our doorstep each morning instead of a newspaper. As a newspaperman, I’m not ready to discourage readership of each day’s edition, but maybe there’s something to be said for reading a newspaper and a poem each morning.
All of that has led to a small experiment. In an effort to keep a little poetry in my life long after National Poetry Month had passed, I resolved to read at least one poem a day after reading through the newspaper over breakfast. Thanks to two digital services that deliver poetry right to my email inbox, it’s been an easy resolution to keep.
Many public radio listeners are familiar with The Writer’s Almanac, a five-minute broadcast hosted by Garrison Keillor that airs on lots of stations around the country. Each day’s edition includes a handful of facts about literary anniversaries(周年纪念), along with a short poem that Keillor recites.Fans can also have the text of each episode emailed to them every day, along with a link to the broadcast version.
The Academy of American Poets has its own poem-day feature, called “Poem-a-Day”.Launched during National Poetry Month in 2006, Poem-a-Day highlights new and previously unpublished poems by contemporary poets on weekdays and classic poems on weekends.
Since subscribing to both services last April, I’ve enjoyed receiving poems each morning.Reading at least one poem a day has also been like an intellectual vitamin(维生素), giving me a brief taste of literature even on busy days.Last April, I wondered if I could remind myself to read a poem each morning. Now, deep in summer, I wonder if I could ever do without it.

It’s very common for students’ grades to experience a decline upon entering high school.Different teenagers deal with the newfound pressures differently, and while some tend to rise to the challenge, others can become overwhelmed(不知所措的) by stress. An interesting study conducted at The University of Texas has found that students’ views on learning and intelligence mindsets can make all the difference when it comes to fighting academic stress.
The research team set out to learn why some students overcame the stressful transition(过渡) into high school and some struggled to maintain their academic skills and standards.Their findings pointed to a direct relationship between a student’s learning mindset and their stress resilience, especially when grades begin to decline.More specifically, students’ learning mindsets were defined as whether they considered intelligence a fixed characteristic that everyone is born with, or a constantly growing one that can be improved over time.
In all, 499 ninth-graders from two public high schools in Texas were surveyed during their first term.Researchers assessed each student’s perceptions of intelligence, and asked each participant to fill out daily surveys on their academic stress levels. The results showed that 68% of students saw a decline in their grades during the first 12 weeks of high school. Those worsening grades, however, didn’t cause a higher stress response for everyone.
It turned out that worsening grades only caused greater stress responses in students who showed signs of a fixed intelligence mindset, while students with a growth mindset were able to bounce back much more quickly.Researchers theorize that this is because these students are more active in solving academic issues, for example, by clarifying lessons with teachers after class if they don’t understand a particular topic.
“Declining grades may get ‘under the skin’ for high school students,” explains lead author Hae Yeon Lee.“But believing that intelligence can be developed or having what is called a growth mindset can reduce the effects of academic stress.”

“To get ahead in this world, don’t we need a little bit of perfectionism ” As someone who has researched perfectionism for over a decade, I’m asked this question a lot.And I used to think that was true. It’s hard to succeed nowadays. You’ve got to sacrifice yourself, keep pushing well beyond what’s comfortable, and live life on your tiptoes. That’s just a common thing in a competitive society where there are only a few winners, I believed.
Yet, research finds that perfectionism has no relationship with performance.Perfectionistic people struggle really hard, but they’re no more likely to be successful. One reason is that perfectionistic people work hard but unsustainably so.They often find themselves in the sapping zone and opposite returns on their efforts.
Another is that many perfectionists are world champions at self-doubt.When things get tough, when it looks like failure is heading their way, the anticipated shame and embarrassment are so fierce that perfectionistic people are unwilling to put forth any further effort that might allow others to discover their shortcomings. So, they simply give up to avoid fears of failure, which makes failure more likely.
For perfectionists, dialing down goals and aiming for excellence instead doesn’t usually work.On the contrary, it’s important to learn to embrace the inevitability of setbacks, failures, and things not going quite as planned. It’s important to be able to sit comfortably with these humanizing experiences, to let them be, and not need to drive them out of existence.
So we shouldn’t struggle to be perfect because perfectionism doesn’t lead to success.Instead, do recognize that learning to embrace imperfections and setbacks helps us to accept ourselves and keep moving forward.

Letting Go of What Holds You Back
The truth is, we all only have a limited amount of time and energy each day. 1 Does that sound familiar We’ve all been there—feeling overwhelmed, as if carrying a heavy load on our backs.Whether it’s physical stuff in your living space or metaphorical(比喻的) trash in life, it’s time for a spring cleaning.
2 To do one thing well, you must have the concentration and go all out.Once Warren E.Buffett famously said,“ Really successful people say no to almost everything.” He accumulated wealth by focusing laser-like on one thing—investing, and excelled in it by declining every other shiny distraction that crossed his path.
Reflecting on our life, we’ve unconsciously collected mental and emotional “junk”.Maybe it’s excessive TV watching, continuous gaming, tiring friendships, aimless social media consumption.Honestly, I’ll bet we could all name at least one TV show we’ve been absorbed in out of boredom instead of doing something productive. So the first step is taking stock of exactly what’s weighing you down each day. Then it’s time to start de-junking, but go slow. 3 Try dumping one thing per week so it’s manageable.
Another sneaky trick is to replace bad habits with good alternatives, like switching from endless browsing on social media to learning a new skill instead. 4
Once the unnecessary weight is lifted off, you will have so much extra mental space and energy. 5 So say bye-bye to all the things holding you back and watch your success skyrocket as a result.Your future self will thank you.
A.Detail the time you spend on activities each week.
B.As a saying goes, jack(千斤顶) of all trades, master of none.
C.Throwing everything out at once will just leave you stressed out.
D.Or put away your phone while working, so you’ re not distracted.
E.When it comes to letting go of trouble causers, you have many alternatives.
F.Suddenly barriers seem not so tough when you’ re not battling ten things at once.
G.If we shoulder more than we can, we’ll end up exhausted and going nowhere.

Rooftops covered with grass, vegetable gardens and dense greenery are now a common sight in many cities around the world.More and more private companies and city authorities are investing in green roofs, drawn to their wide-ranging benefits.Among the benefits are saving on energy costs, reducing the risk of floods, making habitats for urban wildlife, tackling air pollution and even growing food. These increasingly radical urban designs can help cities adapt to the monumental problems they face, such as access to resources and a lack of green space due to development.
Ongoing research is showcasing how green roofs in cities can integrate with “living walls”:environmentally friendly walls which are partially or completely covered with greenery, including a growing medium, such as soil or water.Research also indicates that green roofs can be integrated with drainage systems on the ground, such as street trees, so that the water is managed better and the built environment is made more sustainable. There is also evidence to demonstrate the social value of green roofs.Doctors are increasingly prescribing(开处方) time spent gardening outdoors for patients dealing with anxiety and depression.
In North America, green roofs have become mainstream, with a wide array of expansive, accessible and food-producing roofs installed in buildings.Again, city leaders and authorities have helped push the movement forward.Only recently, San Francisco, USA, created a policy requiring new buildings to have green roofs.Toronto, Canada, has policies dating from the 1990s, encouraging the development of urban farms on rooftops.
For green roofs to become the norm(常态) for new developments, there needs to be support from public authorities and private investors. Those responsible for maintaining buildings may have to acquire new skills, such as landscaping, and in some cases, volunteers may be needed to help out.

Five weeks ago, I noticed the skin of our pet lizard(蜥蜴) was growing dusty. It worried me.I reported the strange surface on the skin to my husband and children the next morning.Seconds later, our lizard emerged from its tank with its old skin flowing behind it.
I didn’t think about it much until a morning last week when I knocked my favorite teapot off the table. It burst into hundreds of pieces. As I swept up the mess, I wondered why we had been breaking so many things over the months.
The destruction started three months ago.It was my husband’s birthday. He had just lost his job.The uncertainty was starting to wear on us, so I wanted to do something special—a birthday cake.
Two hours before my husband came back home from another job interview, my daughter climbed up to grab a glass vase from a high shelf. It fell and crashed beside the cake.Tiny pieces of glass were everywhere. She sobbed loudly as I threw the cake away.My husband had banana pudding for his birthday.
Three days ago, the light in our living room suddenly went out. After several frustrating hours of unsuccessful attempts to fix it, my husband suggested watching the Michael Jordan documentary series The Last Dance.
The poignancy(辛酸) of Jordan retiring from his beloved basketball to play baseball and what had pushed him to make such a tough decision took me by surprise. As I watched him take off his basketball uniform and replace it with a baseball uniform, I saw him leaving behind the layer that no longer served him, just as our lizard had.Neither of them chose the moment that had transformed them. But they had to live with who they were after everything was different.Just like us.I realized that we have to learn to leave the past behind.
Humans do not shed skin as easily as other animals. The beginning of change is upsetting. The process is tiring.Damage changes us before we are ready.I see our lizard, raw and nearly new.

Rivers are important to the well-being of both wildlife and people.Every year, rivers get smaller as communities take away water that can’t be put back by rain, and the situation gets worse due to climate change. 1
Reduce your water use.
One easy way to save water is to collect unused water for other purposes.A lot of wasted water comes from showers, air conditioners(空调) and similar sources. 2 For example, place a few boxes to gather it, then use it again to water your plants or grassland.
 3
Select biodegradable(可生物降解的) cleaning products.Any chemicals you use end up back in the water supply.Choose natural soaps(肥皂) or create your own cleaning products made from natural materials. These products have the added advantage of causing far less pollution if they reach a river.
Get involved in river protection groups.
Do a quick search for “river protection groups” online. 4 Then you can volunteer for a river clean-up project, like removing rubbish from waterways. If you don’t have time to clean the river, you can make some donations to the group, too.Eventually, your donations will help the group stay active.
Report any river pollution you see.
5 You can tell others any issues you see when you’re down by the water. When you see something wrong, you can call a river protection group and tell them. You can also call the Ministry of Ecology and Environment in your area to report the issues.
No matter how small these actions may seem, they do help to reduce pressure on the rivers and create a more harmonious future.Let’s get started to protect our rivers right now.

【文章大意】本文是一篇议论文。文章论述了我们不应该为追求完美而奋斗,因为完美主义不会带来成功。相反,要认识到,学会接受不完美和挫折有助于我们接受自己并继续前进。
5.What is the author’s initial belief about perfectionism
A.It has no relationship with performance.
B.It leads to self-doubt and fear of failure.
C.It is unsustainable and leads to burnout.
D.It is necessary for success in tough society.
【解析】选D。细节理解题。根据文章第一段“‘To get ahead in this world, don’t we need a little bit of perfectionism ’ As someone who has researched perfectionism for over a decade, I’m asked this question a lot.And I used to think that was true.”可知,作者认为要出人头地,我们需要一点完美主义,因此作者最初认为完美主义是在社会上取得成功的必要条件。故选D。
6.What does the underlined word “sapping” in Paragraph 2 mean
A.Falling. B.Reserving.
C.Exciting. D.Refreshing.
【解析】选A。 词句猜测题。根据第二段中“Perfectionistic people struggle really hard, but they’re no more likely to be successful. One reason is that perfectionistic people work hard but unsustainably so.” 故选A。
7.Why do many perfectionists give up when faced with challenges
A.They are not willing to work hard.
B.They are afraid of shame from failure.
C.They are unwilling to accept any failure.
D.They are unable to dial down their goals.
【解析】选B。细节理解题。根据第三段中“Another is that many perfectionists are world champions at self-doubt.When things get tough, when it looks like failure is heading their way, the anticipated shame and embarrassment are so fierce that perfectionistic people are unwilling to put forth any further effort that might allow others to discover their shortcomings.”可知,许多完美主义者在面对挑战时会放弃,因为他们害怕失败带来的羞耻感。故选B。
8.What is the best title of the text
A.Why You Should Embrace “Good Enough”
B.Why Kids Need“Intelligent Failure”
C.What Is a Better Way to Seek Guidance
D.What We Can Benefit from Perfectionism
【解析】选A。最佳标题题。根据第二段中“Yet, research finds that perfectionism has no relationship with performance.”以及最后一段“So we shouldn’t struggle to be perfect because perfectionism doesn’t lead to success.Instead, do recognize that learning to embrace imperfections and setbacks helps us to accept ourselves and keep moving forward.”可知,文章主要讲述了新的研究表明,完美主义并不一定能带来成功,反而可能会让人筋疲力尽,害怕失败。相反,我们应该学会接受不完美和挫折,这样才能接受自己。故选A。

【文章大意】本文是一篇说明文。文章建议我们应该摆脱生活中那些阻碍我们前进的东西,从而拥有更多的精力和空间去追求成功。
1.【解析】选G。 前文“The truth is, we all only have a limited amount of time and energy each day.”
上文“Once the unnecessary weight is lifted off, you will have so much extra mental space and energy.”提到摆脱不必要的负担后会有更多的精神空间和精力,F项进一步说明摆脱负担后的好处,上下文语意连贯。故选F。核心素养测评 (30分钟 40分)

When I was 27 years old, I left a very demanding job in management consulting for a job that was even more demanding:teaching.I went to teach seventh graders math in the New York City public schools. And like any teacher, I made quizzes and tests. When the work came back, I calculated grades.
What struck me was that IQ was not the only difference between my best and my worst students. Some of my strongest performers did not have excellent IQ scores. Some of my smartest kids weren’t doing so well. And that got me thinking.
After several more years of teaching, I came to the conclusion that what we need in education is a much better understanding of students and learning from both motivational and psychological perspectives. In education, the one thing we know how to measure best is IQ.But what if doing well in school and in life depends on much more than your ability to learn quickly and easily

Never Give Up
When we are in trouble, we are always told “Never give up”. This can be encouraging words and words of determination. People who believes in themselves will keep trying to reach their goal no matter how many times they fail.
In my opinion, never giving up is a valuable quality in study and life. When I met difficulties in the past, I would be very impatient and wanted to give up. Some day I realized that if I kept giving up all the time, I would be a loser. So I tried to get over my fear and became patient. Now I no longer feel afraid of difficulties and these difficulties become my motivation to move forward. I will never give up until I realize my dream.

(2026·南阳模拟)

A.Serve as a river keeper.
B.Use river-friendly products.
C.Spread protection news online.
D.You can consider joining the group.
E.You can offer others a few polite and useful tips.
F.You can often collect this water and repurpose it.
G.Fortunately, you can do your part to save the rivers.

So I left the classroom, and I went to graduate school to become a psychologist.I started studying kids and adults in all kinds of super challenging settings, and in every study my question was, who is successful here and why
My research team and I went to a school. We tried to predict which students would stay in military training and which would drop out.We studied first-year teachers working in really tough neighborhoods, asking which teachers were still going to be here in teaching by the end of the school year In all those very different contexts, one characteristic emerged as a significant predictor of success. It wasn’t social intelligence, good looks, physical health, or even IQ.Instead, it was grit(毅力).

【参考范文】
Thank you for your listening.
