A Healthy Chinese Lifestyle
Dear Peter,
I’m glad you are interested in Chinese lifestyle. I’d like to talk about practicing
Baduanjin.
It is a traditional Chinese exercise. It is really good for our health. It can make us
strong and help us relax when we feel tired. It also brings us peace of mind.
If you want to try it, you can learn it online. It’s easy to follow. Practicing for 15
minutes every day is enough.
Hope you can try it someday!
Best wishes!
Yours,
Li Hua

Netizens have praised a Xinjiang shop owner for patiently picking hats for a sick child and
giving one hat to the child for free.
According to CCTV News, the touching story happened in a children's clothing store in
Hotan prefecture of Xinjiang on Dec. 31, the first day of the New Year holiday. The shop owner,

Liu then carefully put different hats on the child until the child chose his favorite one. The
mother repeatedly expressed her gratitude to Liu.

family a lot of money. The hat is not worth much. I just hope it will bring warmth to them."
Liu was a native of Zhengzhou, Henan province. He came to Xinjiang and joined the army
in 2003. After retiring from the military, Liu and his wife opened a shop selling children's

Clearly, proper rules and laws are needed to manage AI and its related problems. China has
been making such efforts.
In September, 2022, Shanghai passed a rule on AI, marking the first of such an effort in China.
The rule, which took effect on Oct. 1, clearly defined the government’s and related parties’
responsibilities and management standards. Some bottom lines for AI products and services
were also made clear. For example, some companies make use of algorithms(算法)to cheat
people by setting different prices for the same products. This is now a mustn’t.
An important point of the rule looks to set up an expert committee on AI-related ethics. The
committe(e 委员会)is responsible for making ethica(l 道德的)guidelines, promoting discussions
on big AI ethics problems and more at home and abroad.
At the national level, earlier in March, China reported a set of guidelines to help with the
management over ethics in science and technology. AI is a powerful technology that pushes
forward global development and improves the well-being of all humans. Every one should share
responsibilities and work together on its management.

This year, science fiction lovers in China have reason to feel inspired by Chinese writer Hai
Ya, whose book The Space-Time Painter won the Hugo Award(雨果奖)or Best Novelette(中
篇小说)on Saturday. Besides, he is the third Chinese writer to win a Hugo award after Liu Cixin
in 2015 and Hao Jingfang in 2016.
Hai has also impressed the world with his work standard. It is reported that after the awards
night in Chengdu he flew back to Shenzhen next night. So he would not miss work on Monday
morning.
Rather than being a full-time novelist, Hai treats writing as a part-time activity to be taken up
whenever he is not doing his job. That inspires more young writers. There was a time when not
everyone could be a "writer", but now more and more people are following their dreams to
become writers.
In fact, Liu Cixin, the writer of The Three-Body Problem, is also a part-time writer. He
encourages young people to keep their jobs and work hard for their writing dreams at the same
time.
Their stories tell us that nothing can stop people from following their dreams of being writers.
No one can get up early or sleep late to write, but a steady(稳定的) job will actually provide
us with a simple and peaceful life, because a common pay can make a living, because we need
not worry about money.
The key lies in balancing the eight hours one spends in office every day with three hours of
writing in the early morning or late at night. And remember—never give up.
66. When did Hai Ya leave for Shenzhen
A. On Sunday night. B. On Saturday night. C. On Sunday morning. D. On Monday morning.
67. What do Hai Ya and Liu Cixin have in common
A. They are part-time writers.
B. They come from Shenzhen.
C. They are hard-working and work very late.
D. They won the Hugo Award in the same year.
68. What is the secret to be a part-time writer according to the text
A. Working in different places.
B. Making more money to support writing.
C. Finding enough material to write about.
九年级英语 第 7页 (共 10页)
D. Balancing the work time and the writing time.
69. What could be the best title for the text
A. Good Job, Chinese Writers!
B. Writing Your Own Stories, Young Men
C. A Part-time Writer with a Big Dream
D. The 2023 Hugo Award for Best Novelette
70. What can we learn from Hai Ya
A. We should give up our job to write.
B. We should keep our dreams and never give up.
C. We should make money by writing full-time.
D. We should win big prizes as early as possible.

Teach Yourself How to Be More Patient
In today's digital world, people are no longer used to having to wait. But being patient is
really important for us. There are actually health benefits to being patient. One of the main ones
is that it helps to relieve stress. Here are some ways that you can train yourself to be more
patient.
Be more mindful.
Practicing mindfulness in your everyday life can help you become more patient. That's
because mindfulness helps you live in the present moment. This allows you not to get stressed
out about some future happening. If you find your mind wandering about the future things, there
are ways you bring yourself back into the present. Take deep breaths to connect to your senses,
slow down, and do some relaxation exercises.
Accept the things you can't control.
There are some things that you can control, like an untidy house and things you cannot
control, like being stuck in traffic. Set goals to change the things in your life that you can control.
Whether it is exercising more or spending more time with your partner. As for the traffic
problem, find a less stressful way to spend the time. You can learn to be more mindful by taking
up tai chi, or yoga.
Become more patient with people around you.
It is easy to get impatient when the people around you are not doing what you expect them
to do, like waiting for a friend or being late for school. But rather than just being angry, you can
tell yourself that this happened. Listen and share your feelings with others. Being patient with
others can help you become a more patient person.
