Plastic is one of the most widely used materials in our daily life. We use plastic bags, plastic
bottles, plastic boxes and many other plastic products every day. However, the overuse of plastic
brings serious environmental problems, which has become a big challenge for our planet.
Most plastic products are hard to break down. They can stay in the environment for hundreds
of years, polluting the land, rivers and oceans. For example, plastic bags often end up in rivers
and seas, hurting marine animals like fish and turtles. Some plastic waste is burned, which
produces harmful gases and pollutes the air. Besides, making plastic needs a lot of energy and
resources, which is not good for sustainable development.
To solve the plastic pollution problem, we can take some simple actions in our daily life. We
can use reusable cloth bags instead of plastic bags when shopping. We can choose glass or metal
bottles instead of plastic ones. We should also throw plastic waste into the right dustbins so that
it can be recycled properly. Many countries have also made rules to limit the use of single-use

On September 3, 2025, a very big military parade took place
in Tiananmen Square, Beijing. This parade was to celebrate the
80th anniversary of China’s victory in the War of Resistance
against Japanese Aggression. Many interesting things happened
in the parade, but the aerial echelons (空中梯队) were the most
eye-catching. They showed how strong China’s air force is
now. At the start of the aerial part, helicopters flew first. These
helicopters carried China’s national flag. Behind them, there were different kinds of planes:
early warning planes, fighter jets, bombers, and transport planes. Many of these planes are very
advanced. Some of them even appeared in public for the first time! The planes flew in neat,
strong formations（编队）. When people below saw this, they cheered loudly.
But in the past, things were very different. Let’s think about 1949—when China’s founding
ceremony was held. At that time, only 17 planes were in the parade. The number of planes was
so small! To make the formation look bigger, some fighter planes even flew around and passed
Tiananmen Square twice. Also, back then, there were very few types of planes. What’s worse
None of those planes were made in China.
This big change did not come easily. It is the result of hard work by many generations of
Chinese scientists and workers. They spent a lot of time and effort to build better planes. Now,
China has more planes than ever before. This fact clearly shows how much China’s aviation

A team of Chinese scientists have developed a robot fish. It can clear away microplastic
particles(塑料微粒)from water environments.
The robot fish are about 1.3 cm long. They are made of a soft chemical mixture.The robots are
built to take in microplastic particles, which are smaller than5 mm. Microplastic pollution has
been discovered in many natural environments, and the microplastic particles come from the
breakdown(分解)of plastic products and industrial waste.
When lit by a bright light,the robot fish can move its tail from side to side. Using the light,
scientists can control the robot fish to swim and avoid hitting other fish or ships. It can swim up
to 2.76 body lengths(长度)per second. This is faster than most similar robots.
Wang Yuyan is a member of the research team. She says that the small, lightweight robot is
being used to collect microplastics for research purposes now. But Wang adds that the team
plans to increase that use so the robot fish can clear away much more microplastic waste from
deep ocean areas.
The robot fish can take in different kinds of microplastics and even repair itself when it is
broken. And if it is eaten by a real fish by chance,it can be broken down safely.
