阅读理解(共8小题;每小题2.5分,满分 20分)AMy birth was a little more dramatic than the standard way a baby enters the world.I was born missing my left hand.Indeed, my limb (肢体) difference could have been a disaster if it hadn’t been for what happened next.A nurse placed me in my mother’s arms and instructed, “You will take her home. You will love her and treat her as normal.”That is exactly what happened.I played sports, acted in theater, excelled in school and had playdates with friends. While I did get some stares and “polite” questions about my disability, I was lucky because I wasn’t made fun of for it.However, that fact that I was different hit me hard on my first day of high school.I was 13, an age when kids are already very self-conscious and the need to fit in is intensified.I remember one of the other kids on the school bus stared just a little too long at my left arm.I felt a sudden urge to hide my hand, so I slipped it into my pocket.I told myself that I’d just hide it that one day, while I was trying to make friends. But one day of hiding turned into a week, a month, and years—25 of them to be exact. When I was 38 years old, tired of hiding and lonely, I met someone special and invited him in.The combination of me finally feeling ready to unhide and his willingness to go through the unhiding process with me was exactly what I needed. For the first time in my life, I allowed someone to really hold my limb, look at it, touch it, love it—love me.I saw my limb difference as something unique about me, something that should be shown, not hidden. It was a transformational experience, and I learned to love me too.It changed how I lived my entire life and made me happier.I also discovered and joined the Lucky Fin Project, an organization devoted to people with all types of disabilities.Hiding things, especially from loved ones, is tiring and lonely, and it prevents us from getting help and support. Paras. 1、2 Born without a left hand, embraced by loving mother, she has an active childhood despite stares.Para.3 High school self-consciousness leads to hiding her disability.Para.4 At 38, a relationship helps embrace and love her difference.Para.5 Join a disability support organization and advocate acceptance.Para.6 Encourage openness to receive support and end loneliness.1.What was the author’s childhood like A.She had no social interactions with friends.B.She was raised with care and treated normally.C.She faced some challenges in school activities.D.She was upset about the attention to her difference.√【解析】选B。 Indeed, my limb difference could have been a disaster if it hadn’t been for what happened next.A nurse placed me in my mother’s arms and instructed, “You will take her home. You will love her and treat her as normal.” B。2.What happened to the author when she was 13 years old A.She began to ignore her disability.B.She suffered prejudice from some kids.C.She started hiding herself away from friends.D.She became sensitive due to her self-awareness.【解析】选D。 D。√3.How did the author change when she stopped hiding A.She started to open up and be herself.B.She met someone who cured her disability.C.She was fed up with the company of others.D.She reduced involvement in the disability group.【解析】选A。 A。√4.What can we learn from this passage A.Misfortune is a good teacher.B.Disability is not a barrier to success.C.Self-acceptance can lead to self-love.D.Nothing beats the feeling of being loved.√【解析】选C。 C。BThe Greek philosopher Heraclitus taught that you can’t step into the same river twice, for you aren’t the same person at each visit, and the water is ever flowing. It is a powerful way to represent the reality that everything is always changing.Yet so many of us have difficulty adapting to change. We deny it, resist it or attempt to control it, the result of which is almost always some combination of stress, anxiety and burnout. It doesn’t have to be that way. No doubt, change can, and often does, hurt. But with the right mindset, it can also be a force for growth. It’s not as if we have any choice in the matter. Like it or not, life is change. We’d be wise to shift our position from useless resistance to being in conversation with change instead.A concept called allostasis can help. Developed in the late 1980s by Peter Sterling and Joseph Eyer, allostasis is defined as “stability through change”. In other words, the way to stay stable through the process of change is by changing, at least to some extent. From neuroscience to pain science and psychology, allostasis has become the standard model for understanding change in the scientific community. The brain is at its best when it is constantly making new connections. Overcoming pain, be it physical or psychological, is not about resistance (which often worsens the experience) or trying to get back to where you were before a distressing event or situation. It’s about balancing acceptance with problem-solving and moving forward to new normal.Yet this concept is still little known to ordinary people and it is time to start practicing it now. Over the past few years, the river of change has been flowing mercilessly, and it shows no signs of letting up. Hardly a decade after the widespread adoption of social media, a new technology that may be far more powerful, artificial intelligence, is being widely used. It’s like what our friend Heraclitus advised: Take part in change by focusing on what we can control and trying to let go of what we can’t. Our ability to work with these changes is directly related to our life satisfaction.【语篇属性】语篇 类型 议论文主题 语境 人与自我(健康的生活方式,积极的生活态度)语篇 内容 生命中唯一不变的就是变化。 Para.1 Change is constant, as illustrated by Heraclitus’ river comparison.Para.2 Many struggle with change, leading to stress and anxiety. Para.3 Change can be a positive force for growth with the right mindset.Paras. 4-6 The definition and application of allostasis, not well-known but essential for adaptation.Para.7 Embrace change by focusing on what we can control and letting go of what we can’t.【命题意图】5.What phenomenon is described in the first paragraph 6.How should we deal with changes according to the author 7.What does the underlined phrase “letting up” in Paragraph 6 probably mean 8.What is the best title for the text 5.What phenomenon is described in the first paragraph A.We could have a right mindset.B.Philosophy exists everywhere.C.Some people are wiser than others.D.Change is unavoidable in life.【解析】选D。 根据第一段“It is a powerful way to represent the reality that everything is always changing.” D。√6.How should we deal with changes according to the author A.Ignore them. Her family is used to her independent spirit but thought she was nuts when she suggested sky diving.“I don’t know what gave me the idea, but I thought,‘I guess I’ll jump out of a plane.’ Then I stuck with the story and did it,” said Bockstruck, who lives in the western New Hampshire town of Swanzey. Peckham said he has seen people much younger balk at the prospect of sky diving.“She knew exactly what she was doing,” he said.“I’m sure she was nervous and anxious and possibly a little afraid. She went ahead and did it.I call that courage.” Their outing lasted roughly 10 minutes.“She was asking,‘Where’s the landing area ’ I pointed down to the airport,” Peckham said.“I pointed out the Quabbin Reservoir and Mount Monadnock and the Berkshire Mountains. She acknowledged they were there; she could see them.” She started waving to her family between 4,000 and 5,000 feet.“It was nice,” Bockstruck said in an interview.“It was quite windy and cold, but we had a lot of clothes on.Of course, if you’ve got somebody with you, it’s a little warmer. You know, two of us.” Bockstruck’s son, James Devine Ⅱ, thinks his mother got her idea after seeing former President George H.W.Bush sky dive in June for his 85th birthday—the same way he celebrated his 75th and 80th birthdays. 1.How did her family react after hearing Bockstruck’s idea of sky dive (B) A.They firmly supported her idea. The girl kept pointing at items on the shelves, and magically, the items appeared in her shopping cart. She noticed that whatever the teenage girl pointed at, her mother immediately put it in their cart. Judy and the mother-daughter pair had coincidentally walked down to the cashier together, and by the time their cart had gone from empty to full. Judy glanced at their cart, which was filled with chips and snacks. She looked at her own cart, where there was next to nothing.Judy, a high school senior, was tasked to do the weekly shopping and had to stretch a dollar as much as possible. However, once home, Judy’s mother complained about her, “Why not get the cheapest items Don’t buy unnecessary things. We aren’t wealthy.” Judy was not a spendthrift(挥霍无度的人), but her mother always urged her not to spend too much. Instead of feeling annoyed, Judy quietly resolved never to find herself in such a situation again. The following week at school, a guest speaker delivered a speech about determination. The speaker made the students think and challenged them to take control of their lives. Judy felt very inspired. She remembered one particular line, “Determination leads to success.” She realized she could not change her family’s poor circumstances at the moment, but she could change her own future. This determined mindset made her put forth her best effort in her studies.Judy’s biggest challenge was her mother. Her mother was not taking proper care of her because she was very thin and quite often ill. In addition to her usual chores of cooking, Judy had to help her mother get in and out of bed. However, Judy remained determined to do well. With the goal in mind, Judy burned the midnight oil, shouldering her responsibilities and taking care of her mother. With the strain of her lessons,Judy felt more and more this was an opportunity to prove her struggles and success. With a renewed sense of purpose, Judy prepared her speech, pouring her heart and soul into every word. She talked about the importance of determination, how it had carried her through tough times, and how it could inspire others to face their own challenges. The day of the speech arrived, and the audience was moved.Judy left the stage with a sense of accomplishment she had never felt before.- 16 -课时跟踪训练 Unit 4 Adversity and CourageⅠ.阅读理解(共8小题;每小题2.5分,满分 20分)AMy birth was a little more dramatic than the standard way a baby enters the world.I was born missing my left hand.Indeed, my limb (肢体) difference could have been a disaster if it hadn’t been for what happened next.A nurse placed me in my mother’s arms and instructed, “You will take her home. It’s time to change that.【语篇属性】语篇 类型 记叙文主题 语境 人与自我(优秀的品行,正确的人生态度)语篇 内容 same person at each visit, and the water is ever flowing. 4-6 The definition and application of allostasis, not well-known but essential for adaptation.Para.7 Embrace change by focusing on what we can control and letting go of what we can’t.【命题意图】5.What phenomenon is described in the first paragraph 6.How should we deal with changes according to the author 7.What does the underlined phrase “letting up” in Paragraph 6 probably mean 8.What is the best title for the text 5.What phenomenon is described in the first paragraph A.We could have a right mindset.B.Philosophy exists everywhere.C.Some people are wiser than others.D.Change is unavoidable in life.【解析】选D。 根据第一段“It is a powerful way to represent the reality that everything is always changing.” D。6.How should we deal with changes according to the author A.Ignore them.
