As a young boy I had been fascinated by paper airplanes. And now I could share the wonder with my granddaughter, Jane. I led her to the front of our house. Sitting at the top of the driveway, which winds down to the sidewalk below, I took out some paper and began folding it into the shape of a plane.
My granddaughter watched me at first, but soon began folding her own planes. I watched her imagination take flight as her small, delicate hands created a variety of designs she optimistically viewed as flyable. Soon each of us had a small fleet of paper airplanes in numerous shapes.
Then it was time to test our aerial creations. Taking one of the planes I had folded, I said, “Throw it up and out like this.” Instead of taking wing, it spiraled into the ground a few feet away. “Hmm, I think that plane could use a little more work. Now, you try one.”
My granddaughter selected one of the planes she had crafted and threw it as hard as she could. It, too, quickly spiraled into the ground. “That's all right. Try another,” I encouraged. She did, again and again, until her first successful flight brought forth a squeal of delight. Soon her eyes were twinkling as her planes danced and arced across the sky. Time seemed to stand still as we peppered the sky with our creations. I focused on the flights— how high, how far, how long, and which planes performed best.
But my granddaughter, though happy to compete, was not primarily focused on such things. For she knew it was not the planes or their flights that mattered. What mattered to her was spending time with her grandfather. In a major step towards a greener future, research shows that in 2025, all of the world's increased need for electricity was met by clean renewable energy sources. For the first time, the growth in demand did not require burning more fossil fuels, which remained at the same level as the year before. Many experts believe this could be a turning point in the fight against climate change.
Solar power led this positive change. Its generation jumped by nearly one-third, setting a new record. Over the past ten years, solar output has grown ten times larger. China played a key role, producing more than half of this global increase. It is now the world's largest maker and seller of clean energy technology. Solar power alone covered about three-quarters of the new electricity demand, with wind power providing most of the rest. As a result, electricity from fossil fuels saw a small drop of 0.2%.
Aditya Lolla, an energy expert, stated, “We have firmly entered the age of clean growth. Clean energy is now growing fast enough to meet the rising global electricity demand. This is no longer just an ambition; it is becoming our new reality.”
Other countries also made great progress. India, for example, added record amounts of clean power, reducing its heavy reliance on coal. Its use of fossil fuels for electricity fell significantly.
Globally, renewable energy provided 34% of all electricity in 2025, surpassing coal, which accounted for 33%. A key reason for this success is the improved use of battery storage. As battery prices have fallen sharply in the past decade, more solar power can be saved for use at night or on cloudy days.
However, challenges remain. Transport and heating, highly dependent on oil and gas in many countries, must also be electrified if the world is to fully move away from fossil fuels. This will require further improvements to current power systems and related rules. As Lolla noted, the next step is to modernize these systems to handle the new reality of clean energy.

Published in a leading science journal, the research confirms a link between stressful social relationships and accelerated biological aging. The study involved over 2,300 adults who provided saliva samples for DNA testing. They also answered questions about their social circles, identifying people who frequently cause them stress or make their lives difficult.
The findings are clear: the more “annoying people” one has to deal with, the faster their body seems to age. On average, each stressful relationship was linked to a 1.5%increase in the speed of biological aging. While this might sound small, it can add up over time.
The reason behind this is likely chronic stress. Constantly interacting with difficult people keeps the body's stress system active. This leads to higher levels of stress hormones, which can cause inflammation and weaken the immune system, ultimately damaging cells and speeding up the aging process.

M: Good morning! I want to tell you about the cycling trip I took recently to Northumberland in the north of England.
Northumberland is a beautiful area of England and perfect for cycling. There is very little traffic on the roads and plenty to see and do. For example, why not visit a castle More of them are open to the public here than in any other part of the country. But you will find that some places are closed in winter.
Most of the small towns in the area have cycling centres where you can hire a bicycle. A week's hire will cost thirty-five pounds, and two weeks will be fifty-five pounds. There is also a deposit of fifty pounds, which you get back when you return the bicycle.
Try to plan your holiday when there is a local event or festival happening. I went in June and was lucky enough to go to a festival of local food.
