Last summer, I went to France with my parents. Before the trip, I learned a little about French customs, but I still made some mistakes.
On our first day in Paris, we went to a nice restaurant for dinner. I was very hungry, so I started eating as soon as the food came. But my parents stopped me and told me that in France, people usually wait for everyone to get their food before starting to eat. I felt a little embarrassed.
Then, when we met our French friend, Pierre, I tried to shake hands with him. But he gave me a kiss on each cheek! I was surprised at first, but soon I realized it's a common greeting in France.
Another time, I was shopping in a supermarket. I wanted to ask a worker where the milk was, so I said "Excuse me, where is the milk " But he looked at me strangely. Later, my mom told me that in France, it's more polite to start with "Excuse me, could you please tell me where the milk is " instead of a direct question.
By the end of the trip, I learned a lot about French culture. It was a great experience and I now understand how important it is to learn about different cultures before traveling.
