四、阅读理解。
When I was 14, I noticed that my neighborhood had a big problem: there was too much plastic waste everywhere. The nearby river was polluted, and the streets were covered with plastic bags and bottles. I felt upset and determined to do something to change the situation.
At first, I had no idea where to start. I turned to my science teacher for advice. She suggested that I could begin by recycling plastic waste and transforming it into something practical. Inspired by her words, I decided to work on a machine that could turn plastic waste into small, sturdy chairs. It was a challenging journey. I spent six months reading engineering books, doing countless experiments, and fixing mistakes again and again. There were times when I wanted to give up, but I reminded myself of the polluted river and messy streets.
Finally, my machine worked! I set up a small workshop in my backyard. People in my neighborhood started bringing their plastic waste to me, and I turned each piece into a useful chair. I donated these chairs to the local primary school and the community's old people's home. As a result, the amount of plastic waste in our neighborhood dropped significantly, and the river started to look cleaner.
Now, I'm 18 and I still run the workshop. Many teenagers come to learn from me, and we're planning to build a larger factory to handle more plastic waste. I truly believe that everyone can make a difference, no matter how young they are.
