三、阅读理解:本大题共9小题,共18分。
A
In the eighth grade, Career Exploration Week arrived with a lot of excitement as well as pressure. My classmates talked confidently about becoming lawyers, scientists, or business owners. I listened quietly, feeling unsure. It wasn’t that I didn’t care about my future. I just didn’t understand myself well enough to choose a path.
At first, I tried to follow what others were doing. I signed up for a coding (编程) workshop because many of my friends said it was useful. In class, I completed the tasks and even got good results. But something didn’t feel right. While others were excited about solving hard problems, I felt tired and strangely uninterested. I told myself to keep going, thinking that maybe I just needed more time.
But the feeling didn’t change. One afternoon, as I stared at my screen, I realized something important. I wasn’t bored because the work was too hard. I was bored because it didn’t connect with me. For the first time, I didn’t ask myself, “What is popular ” Instead, I asked “What actually interests me ”
I began to pay more attention to my own feelings. I noticed that I enjoyed activities where I could talk and work with people, like group discussions or helping classmates with homework. I also found that I liked expressing ideas through speaking or writing. These small findings helped me understand myself better.
Later, I chose to attend a workshop on communication and leadership. This time, the experience felt completely different. I was nervous at first, but soon I became focused. I wanted to participate, share my thoughts, and improve. Even when I made mistakes, I didn’t feel discouraged.
That was when I understood that career exploration was not about trying everything carelessly or following others blindly. It required honesty with yourself, realizing and accepting what you truly enjoy and what you don’t, thus finding a path suitable for you.
I still haven’t decided which path to take, and that’s okay. What matters is that I now know myself better than before. I’ve learned to trust my own voice, even when it’s different from everyone else’s. And I believe that understanding myself is the first step toward finding a career that truly fits me.
21.The writer joined the coding workshop at first because ________.
A. he found coding easy for him B. he knew his interests clearly
C. he just tried to follow others D. he likes solving problems
22.What do we know about the writer from the story
A. He may take coding as a job since he is good at it.
B. He may be thoughtful and good at communicating.
C. He will ask teachers for advice when choosing a job.
D. He will organize Career Exploration Week next year.
23.What does this story tell us about career exploration
A. We should understand and follow our own hearts.
B. It’s impossible to find a job without working hard.
C. It’s important to work as a team to solve problems.
D. We need to gain some new experiences in daily life.

Adolescence (青春期) is often filled with difficult moments that we all try to avoid: failing an important exam, fighting with close friends, feeling confused about the future, or struggling (挣扎) to fit in with peers. These uncomfortable experiences are what we call “growing pains”, and almost every teenager wishes to stay away from them. However, some latest scientific studies have clearly shown that these struggles are not useless or harmful—they are actually necessary for teenagers’ mental and emotional development.
A 2021 research carried out by scientists at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) focused on how the human brain reacts to mistakes. In the study, researchers used EEG, a common tool to test brain activity, to check and compare the brain signals of teenagers and adults when they made errors (错误) in simple tasks. The results were surprising: teenagers produce a much stronger error-related negativity (ERN), a special brain signal that directly drives people to learn from their failures. This finding proves that teenage brains are far more plastic than adult brains, meaning they can reshape and reorganize themselves more effectively after experiencing problems.
Another valuable study from the University of Cambridge further supports this idea. It shows that adolescent brains are at their highest developmental point for learning from challenges and difficulties. When teenagers step out of their comfort zones, such as giving a public speech, trying a new sport, or working out a hard academic problem, their brains actively build new neural pathways (神经通路). These pathways lay a strong base for key adult skills, including critical thinking, problem-solving, emotional strength and creativity.
Psychologists name this process “growth through struggle”. A 2019 long-term study followed 1,500 teenagers for five continuous years. It found that those who bravely faced and overcame not-too-difficult challenges in daily life developed higher self-confidence, better school achievement and stronger social skills when they reached adulthood. However, teenagers who always avoided any struggles showed much slower mental and emotional growth.
Growing pains may bring short-term sadness or disappointment, but they are the natural way for teenage brains to become stronger and develop fully. Every small challenge in growth is a valuable chance to become a wiser and more able person.

“You always mess things up.”“ What a stupid thing to do!” Have you ever said these things to yourself The inner critic (批评者) is that voice inside your head saying you are not good enough—it is always saying bad things about you.
Inner critics are caused by several reasons. The most commonly discussed one is that this voice of self-doubt comes from things we heard as kids. If parents often put themselves or their children down, those hurtful words can be hard to forget. For example, if a parent criticizes the child’s grades, that child might believe that getting better is simply beyond their ability. Similarly, if a child is often criticized for asking questions out of curiosity, it might lead the child to stop trying new things.
Under the inner critic lies vulnerability (脆弱). Deep down, our critics come from hurt and fear, and slowly become a form of self-protection. Imagine coming home excited about winning a drawing competition, only to be laughed at by your older brother. The next time you achieve something, you might not want to share it — or worse, not even realize your success. This might feel helpful, as if it was protecting you from painful experiences, but it makes things harder for you in the long run.
The inner critic makes us feel small, shy, and keeps us looking for ways to avoid shame, mistakes and failure. To help us deal with the negative self-talk, we need to treat it with care, understanding, and support. First, it’s important to notice it. When you hear a voice in your head suggesting you shouldn’t try because you might only fail, find it out and remind yourself, “That is my critic.” It is true that inner critic may always be there, but when we notice it, we do not have to believe everything it says.
Once you find out your inner critic, you can respond to it with curiosity and compassion (同情), so you can heal (治愈) the hurt it caused. Instead of fighting it, try to understand how it makes you feel and why it is there. You can talk to yourself in a calmer and kinder way. You might say, “It’s okay to feel scared sometimes. What makes me feel this way ” or “We all make mistakes. Would you say something so unkind to a friend ”
Only by realizing and making friends with your inner critic can you start to get over the pain and fear behind it. It takes time and patience, but it’s well worth it. Give it a try—for your own happiness and health.
27.From the passage, we can know that the inner critic ________
A. calls for understanding and support
B. stops people from feeling scared and hurt
C. came from our parents when we were young
D. protects us so that we can be successful
28.The writer would probably agree that ________.
A. children should be encouraged to answer questions
B. painful experiences make it harder for one’s growth
C. it’s important to notice and understand the negative self-talk
D. we should first believe in inner critic so that we can deal with it
29.What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage
A. To explain why we have inner critics.
B. To advise us to keep our inner critics quiet.
C. To warn about the negative side of inner critics.
D. To guide us to treat inner critics as our friends.

30.I still remember the moment it hit me. Our teacher asked everyone what they did during the holidays. “I had piano lessons.”“ I went to equestrian (马术) club.”“ I trained for a ski competition.” When my turn came, I hesitated. “I just stayed at home,” I mumbled (低声说). A few kids looked at each other.
After that, the topic kept coming up. “What did you even do ” someone asked. I mumbled something about watching TV. I started to feel like my holidays were less impressive (令人印象深刻的).
I’d lie in bed thinking about what I didn’t have. No piano. No horse. No ski mountains. One night, I asked my mom if we could afford lessons like other kids. She explained gently that those things cost too much. I nodded, but inside I felt ashamed.
The next day, a classmate named Leo sat beside me. “I didn’t do any of that stuff either,” he said. “My family can’t afford those things. But honestly I don’t think it matters.” That stayed in my mind.
I started noticing that some kids who showed off seemed tired. One girl told me she hated piano but her parents made her practice for hours. They had what I wanted, but they didn’t look happy.
The turning point came during a class discussion. Kevin announced his parents were buying him a new piano. Then he turned to me and said, “So, what did you even do Just stay at home ”
I looked him in the eye and said, “I spent time with my family. I helped my mom cook. I played basketball at the park. It’s not fancy, but I actually enjoyed it. Do you actually enjoy piano, or do you just like telling people you play ”
Kevin’s smirk (得意的笑) froze. The class went quiet.
From that day on, I started to talk about my holidays honestly—cooking, basketball, reading. Some people weren’t impressed, and that was fine. My life wasn’t less colorful than anyone else’s; it was just different.
Looking back, I’m paring myself with others only made me feel ashamed and unhappy. It made me pay no attention to what I already had—my family, simple joys, and freedom. The moment I stopped comparing, I started actually living. I learned that comparing steals your happiness and makes you forget what truly matters.
