This is China's largest non-governmental volunteer-based search-and-rescue organization. Founded in 2007, it operates under a humanitarian, professional, and neutral mission, and it supports disaster relief, medical assistance, and public safety efforts. Many countries have similar volunteer-based search-and-rescue organizations, such as the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) in the UK. Over 95% of its staff are volunteers, who provide sea rescue services.
Blue Sky Rescue
Look at the pictures of some Blue Sky Rescue volunteers and discuss the questions.
1. What happened to the places in the first and third pictures
2. What do you think the volunteers in blue are doing
3. Have you heard any stories about Blue Sky Rescue
4. What do you think of these volunteers
1. What happened to the places in the first and third pictures
The first place had a serious flood. The water covered the area, and people were stuck.
The third place had a terrible earthquake. Buildings fell down, and people were trapped in the ruins.
2. What do you think the volunteers in blue are doing
I think the volunteers in blue are helping people in need. Some are rescuing people from a flood, some are finding people after an earthquake, and some are teaching schoolchildren how to do CPR.
4. What do you think of these volunteers
They are very great and kind. They are brave enough to help people in danger. They are selfless and hard-working, and they are real heroes.
3. Have you heard any stories about Blue Sky Rescue
I have heard a lot about the great work Blue Sky Rescue did during various earthquakes and other disasters.

What kind of hook does the speaker use
Which paragraph includes a call to action
Identifying the features of a speech
A speech can start with a hook to make the audience curious about what the speaker will say next. A story, an interesting fact, or even a question can be a hook. A speech can also include a call to action by encouraging people to do something.
What kind of hook does the speaker use
Which paragraph includes a call to action
The speaker uses a story from his past experience. He tells the audience his own story about how he was involved in a rescue himself. The final paragraph gives a call to action. He calls on the audience to volunteer too.
成功的演讲离不开精心设计的开场 “钩子”(hook)和行动呼吁(call to action),分别承担吸引听众注意力和激励听众采取行动的重要作用。
