When Mr. Harrison announced his retirement at the end of the semester, nobody was surprised. He had been teaching English literature at Westfield Academy for 38 years, and his silver hair and slow steps told the story better than any letter could.
What did surprise us was his final assignment. Instead of a traditional essay on Shakespeare or Dickens, he asked each student to write a letter to their future self---ten years from now. "Tell your future self something you're afraid to say out loud today," he said quietly.
Most of the class groaned. Letters to ourselves It sounded like something from a primary school activity. But Mr. Harrison insisted, and nobody dared to refuse a man who had once read the entire Romeo and Juliet aloud with such passion that even the toughest boys in class wiped their eyes.
I wrote about my fear of failing my mother, who worked two jobs so I could attend this school. I wrote about the guilt I carried every time I saw her tired face at the dinner table. I had never told anyone these things.
On the last day, Mr. Harrison handed back our letters---sealed in envelopes with our names and the date ten years on. "Don't open them until then," he said. "By that time, you'll have learned what I've spent 38 years trying to teach: that the hardest part of growing up isn't the knowledge you gain, but the honesty you learn to have with yourself."
That was fifteen years ago. Last week, I finally opened my letter. I read my teenage words and smiled---because the fear I described no longer controls me, but the honesty Mr. Harrison encouraged has shaped everything I've become.
56. Why did Mr. Harrison's final assignment surprise the students
A. It was extremely difficult to complete.
B. It was different from the usual literary essays.
C. It required them to read all of Shakespeare's works.
D. It had to be finished within one class period.
57. How did the students initially feel about the assignment
A. Excited and eager. B. Unwilling but respectful.
C. Angry and rebellious. D. Confused and anxious.
58. What did the author write about in the letter
A. The dream of becoming a famous writer.
B. The regret of not studying hard enough.
C. The fear of disappointing a hardworking parent.
D. The hope of traveling around the world.
59. What does Mr. Harrison believe is the hardest part of growing up
A. Gaining enough knowledge for a career.
B. Learning to be honest with oneself.
C. Overcoming the fear of public speaking.
D. Finding a good job after graduation.
60. What is the best title for the passage
A. A Strict Literature Teacher B. A Lesson to Remember
C. How to Write a Letter D. My Mother's Sacrifice

Dr. Dweck describes two kinds of mindsets(心态). A fixed mindset means you believe intelligence does not change. When people with this mindset fail, they think they are just not good enough. A growth mindset means you believe you can get better through effort and practice. When these people fail, they see it as a chance to learn.
In one study, Dr. Dweck gave some 10-year-old students problems that were a little too hard. Students with a fixed mindset quickly gave up. They said things like, "I'm not good at this." But students with a growth mindset kept trying. They said, "I love a challenge!" and "This is helping me learn." Brain studies also show that when growth-mindset students make mistakes, their brains are more active, which means they are learning from their errors.
How can we build a growth mindset Dr. Dweck gives some advice. First, praise effort, not just results. Instead of saying "You're so smart," say "You worked really hard on that." Second, add the word "yet" to negative(消极的) thoughts. "I can't do this" becomes "I can't do this yet" --- and that small word means improvement is possible. Third, remember that every time you work hard to learn something new, your brain grows stronger.
These ideas really work in schools. In one school, young students who learned about growth mindset made big progress in just one year. As Dr. Dweck says, "When students believe they can grow, they often do."
61. According to the passage, a fixed mindset means ________.
A. believing that intelligence cannot change
B. believing that everyone is born equally smart
C. believing that hard work is more important than talent
D. believing that intelligence can grow with effort
62. In the study, students with a growth mindset ________ when facing hard problems.
A. felt upset and stopped trying
B. kept trying and enjoyed the challenge
C. asked the teacher for the answers
D. compared themselves with others
63. By adding "yet" to "I can't do this," a person shows that ________.
A. the sentence becomes more polite
B. the problem is not really difficult
C. the person has already given up
D. improvement is still possible in the future
64. The school example in the last paragraph shows that ________.
A. young students always learn the fastest
B. schools should teach more science classes
C. growth mindset ideas can bring real results
D. difficult tests make students smarter
65. What is the best title for the passage
A. How to Pass Difficult Tests
B. Why Some People Are Born Smarter
C. The Growth Mindset: Believing You Can Improve
D. Different Study Methods for Students

When Dan Shaw gets up from the sofa in his home, Cuddles is never far away. When he wants to go outside, he doesn't take Cuddles out for a walk---Cuddles takes him for a walk. Cuddles is clearly no ordinary family pet. It is a two-foot-high miniature horse and serves as the guiding eyes of Shaw, who is blind.
When Shaw lost his sight, his wife suggested he apply for a guide dog. Shaw, an animal lover, said he couldn't bear to part with a dog (which usually lives about eight to ten years) and get used to a new one, perhaps several times in his life.
Then Shaw heard of a program about the tiny guide horses. He learned that the horses possess many qualities that make them an excellent choice for guiding people. They are clean, friendly, smart and have great memories. They can be trained to remain calm in noisy and crowded places. Best of all, they live for 25-35 years, which would enable Shaw to have the same guide companion for most or all of his life.
Shaw immediately applied to be and was accepted as the first person to receive a guide horse. The instant he met Cuddles, he knew he was making the right choice. Then he began his training.
Through training, Shaw and Cuddles learned to find their way on busy streets, step over curbs(便道沿儿)and find elevator buttons. Cuddles even demonstrated(显示)its ability to step in front of Shaw and block him, to prevent him from walking into a dangerous situation. The little horse also expertly led Shaw through busy shopping malls. They got along without any difficulties. Now Shaw is confident that Cuddles will change his life for the better.

参考范文:
Dear Chris,
I'm sorry to hear that you're struggling with your dependence on AI learning tools. I completely understand how you feel, as I had a similar experience last year when I started using a language learning app for English practice.
However, I soon realized that over-relying on AI tools can have negative effects. First, it weakens our ability to think independently. When we always turn to AI for answers, our critical thinking skills decline. Second, it reduces our tolerance for challenges. Instead of working through problems ourselves, we become impatient and give up easily.
Here are some suggestions that helped me. First, set specific times for AI-assisted learning and times for independent study. Second, try to solve problems on your own before consulting AI. Third, keep a learning journal to reflect on your progress. Remember, AI is a tool to assist learning, not to replace thinking.
I hope these suggestions help you find a balance. You can overcome this challenge!
Yours sincerely,
Li Jin
