March 5 is Lei Feng’s Day. People are encouraged to help others and to learn from Lei Feng.
This year, my classmates and I went to do some cleaning in a street. We finished our work, took photos and talked with some people about their lives. One old lady said she remembered how all students used to do helpful work in the street. Another told us that when she was young, she and her friends would do a lot of simple things to help others. They would help people carry things or fix broken chairs at school. But things have changed over the years.”The young students don’t really understand the spirit of Lei Feng“, she continued, ”They do good things because they are told to and take photos to put on the school websites.“
Her words made me think. We have been told to do things to help others on Lei Feng’s Day. But none of the love and care came from our own hearts. We should believe that everyone can make a difference. We don’t need cameras or praise. We can do better if we keep the spirit of Lei Feng inside ourselves. “Learn from Lei Feng” should not be a yearly fad. Everyone should carry out their good behaviors all year round and we will have a better life.
23.This year, my classmates and I________ on Lei Feng’s Day.
A.fixed broken chairs B.did some cleaning C.did some reading
24.From this passage, we know people used to do many good things ________
A.to help others B.to get praise C.to take photos
25.Nowadays, many students do good things on Lei Feng’s Day because ______.
A.they truly want to help others
B.their teachers ask them to do so
C.they understand the spirit of Lei Feng
26.What is the writer’s main idea in this passage
A.Students should take more photos when doing good things.
B.Learning from Lei Feng should be a lifelong habit, not a yearly fad.
C.Students only need to help others on March 5.

Terry Fox was only seventeen when he got cancer. He must have felt hopeless when the doctor said his right leg would have to be cut off 6 inches (英寸) above the knee.
But to everyone’s surprise, Terry Fox made up his mind to become a long-distance runner and do something about the cancer. What a dream!
Although it seemed impossible, Terry decided to run across the whole country. He hoped to raise one million dollars for cancer research. Few people believed he would make it. Anyway, on April 12,1980, Terry Fox began his Marathon of Hope. For the first few days of his marathon, Terry Fox was alone. He started running at 4:30 am. Day by day, people began to realize that something big was happening on the lonely road. As people saw Terry, they stopped and donated money for cancer research.
However, his health took a rapid turn for the worse several months later. He had to give up his marathon on September 1,1980. Terry died three months later, at the age of 22. In his short life, he raised $24 million for cancer research — one dollar for each person in his motherland.
Since his death, the yearly Terry Fox Run, first held in 1981, has grown to be the world’s largest one-day fundraiser (募捐活动) for cancer research.

Over the last few years, I have found that one of my favourite things to do in my free time is to volunteer. I have volunteered for a lot of different organizations and done different jobs. These have included simple, everyday activities like taking dogs for walks at an animal rescue centre and running activities for children at an after-school club. 31
However, no matter what kind of volunteering, I always love it and I will encourage others to have a try. Here are my top four reasons why I think volunteering is so worthwhile.
1. 32
By volunteering, you are carrying out a job—even though you’re not being paid—so you can get valuable experience and skills. These may be useful in the future. For example, many volunteering jobs will help you to get experience in working as a team.
2. You can meet new people.
One of the best things about volunteering is meeting the other volunteers! 33
3. It’s a way to get confidence (自信).
Many volunteers say that the voluntary work has helped them to feel more confident in different ways. For example, I used to be quite a shy person. 34
4. You can have lots of fun!
Doing an activity that you wouldn’t usually do, with like-minded people, should mean that you have a really fun time. You will also feel good knowing that you are doing something good.
These are just a few of the many reasons why I suggest that you look for volunteering chances in your local town or city. There are many different things that you can take part in, and remember that any kind of volunteering is good volunteering. 35 The most important thing to remember is that as well as helping others, you can get a lot from it too!
A.It’s a good chance to get experience and skills.
B.If you like, you can start with something small and who knows what it will lead to!
C.But I have also volunteered to do some more difficult jobs, like translating (翻译) and managing a charity event.
D.They may be very interesting and friendly people and might just turn out to be great friends too.
E.However, my volunteering experience has helped me to talk confidently to strangers, even in front of a crowd!

The school had only 18 students. Most were quiet, 37 they ran and laughed at break. One girl, Wen, always sat alone in the corner, seldom saying anything. On my first day in the classroom, I shared with them a 38 with the words “You are seen” on it and put it up on the wall. Some smiled shyly and some spoke quietly. “That’s why I’m here,” I said. However, Wen didn’t 39 . She was just drawing circles on the desk with her finger.
Days passed quickly. The lessons were 40 planned. The children were kind. But my effort seemed to make little difference. I was not sure if I was doing anything 41 .
One night, a heavy storm caused a power cut, leaving the classroom in darkness. As everyone was frozen, a soft light appeared. It was Wen who was holding a 42 in her hand. “We can still read,” she said in a low voice. That was the first time I heard her voice.
The next day, she sat 43 to her classmates. In the following days, she began to talk more. In my last class, she came up and gave me the lantern. “So you will always have some 44 ,” she smiled gently.
I came to give light, but found it was quietly 45 . Volunteering isn’t always loud or big. Sometimes, it’s a quiet lantern—shared between the two, and shining in both directions.

As the saying goes, “Helping others is helping ourselves.”
Mr. Wang helps students see the 46 (deep) meaning of helping others. He uses the “lost and found” as an example.
Students often forget and lose things. These small “losses” can bring big trouble. 47 (solve) this problem, the school set up a lost and found station. It acts 48 a bridge between losers and finders.
With 49 (practice) ways, students who lose things can register online. Volunteers in the station act 50 (volunteer), give their free time. When an item is 51 (success) found, it’s not just a simple recovery. It also builds 52 (care) connections. The loser learns responsibility, and the helper learns to be patient.
In this process, many 53 (gentleman) and ladies show up. Their actions show the spirit of kindness. All the small acts 54 (do) make our school better, always 55 (remind) us that helping others matters.
In a marathon, have you ever seen some special runners holding signs with different finish times They are marathon pacers (马拉松配速员), also known as “rabbits”. They are usually experienced volunteers who guide a group of runners at a set speed.
Their work is to help others finish the race within their goal time. Usually, there are about 12 pacers in a marathon. Each of them leads a different pace group. Many runners achieve their best finish times with pacers’ help.
Pacers play an important part in a marathon. Firstly, they help runners save energy and avoid slowing down. For example, if you go out too fast in the first half of the race, you will run out of energy quickly and slow down in the second half. With a pacer, you don’t have to think too hard about your pace. You just need to keep up with your pacer. Besides, during the hardest part of the race, pacers support runners by encouraging them.
It’s meaningful but hard to be a pacer. Take Li Jun as an example. He began his marathon journey in 2015. Then he became an active runner. Before he became a pacer, he had not only achieved many good results but also got rich experience in running. In 2018, he became a pacer for the first time, leading a group of runners towards a goal time of 3 hours and 30 minutes. “I want to help others achieve goals.” Li Jun said. Since then, he has continued to serve as a pacer in many marathons.
Pacers are the real heroes of the marathon. They teach us that with courage and support, everyone can overcome (克服) challenges and reach their dreams.
56.What are marathon pacers also called
57.How many pacers are there in a marathon
58.How do pacers give runners support during the hardest part of the race
59.What does the writer think of being a pacer in Paragraph 4

25.原文第二段提到“The young students don’t really understand the spirit of Lei Feng. They do good things because they are told to and take photos to put on the school websites.”,由此可知现在很多学生在雷锋日做好事是因为老师要求他们这么做。
26.原文第三段提到“‘Learn from Lei Feng’ should not be a yearly fad. Everyone should carry out their good behaviors all year round and we will have a better life.”,由此可知作者的主要观点是学习雷锋应该是一种终身的习惯,而不是一年一度的潮流。
27.D 28.C 29.A 30.C
27.第二段划线句子“What a dream!”位于前文“make up his mind to become a long-distance runner and do something about the cancer”之后,结合上文“Although it seemed impossible”可知,这个梦想几乎是不可能实现的,因此作者是在感叹这是一个几乎不可能的梦想。
28.第四段指出“However, his health took a rapid turn for the worse several months later. He had to give up his marathon on September 1,1980.”,这说明Terry因为健康状况恶化(病情加重)而放弃马拉松。
29.第一段提到“Terry Fox was only seventeen when he got cancer”,第四段提到“Terry died three months later, at the age of 22”,他死于1980年(从第四段可知他于1980年9月1日放弃马拉松,三个月后去世),22岁去世,则17岁时应为5年前,即1975年。
30.第四段最后一句指出“In his short life, he raised $24 million for cancer research”,故为$24 million。

31.前文提到“做过简单日常的志愿活动,如遛狗、儿童活动”,C项“But I have also volunteered to do some more difficult jobs, like translating and managing a charity event.”
32.此处为第一个理由的标题,后文围绕“获取有价值的经验和技能”展开,A项“It’s a good chance to get experience and skills.”
33.前文讲“志愿服务的好处之一是认识其他志愿者”,D项“They may be very interesting and friendly people and might just turn out to be great friends too.”
34.前文举例“我过去很害羞”,E项“However, my volunteering experience has helped me to talk confidently to strangers, even in front of a crowd!”
35.前文说“任何类型的志愿服务都是好的”,B项“If you like, you can start with something small and who knows what it will lead to!”

后文作者疑惑“What would these students be like ”说明作者除了兴奋,还有一点担心,应填worried。
so“因此”表因果,since“自从”表时间或原因,when“当……
后文“She was just drawing circles on the desk with her finger.” stand up“站起来”、give up“放弃”和wake up“醒来”与语境动作不符。
前文提到“But my effort seemed to make little difference.
后文明确说到“she came up and gave me the lantern.”,此处对应下文,应填lantern。
根据后文“she began to talk more.”,此处表示她开始交流,说明心理距离拉近,坐得更近,应填closer。
46.deeper 47.To solve 48.as 49.practical 50.voluntarily 51.successfully 52.caring 53.gentlemen 54.done 55.reminding
根据“...this problem, the school set up a lost and found station.”
根据“acts...a bridge”可知,此处是短语act as“充当,担任”。
根据“many...and ladies”可知,此处指许多绅士,many后接可数名词复数,gentleman的复数形式为gentlemen。
根据“All the small acts...make our school better.”
根据“All the small acts...make our school better”可知,此处指小事总是提醒我们帮助别人很重要,应用现在分词reminding作伴随状语。
56.Rabbits. 57.About 12. 58.By encouraging them. 59.Meaningful but hard. 60.To help others achieve goals.
56.第一段明确提到“They are marathon pacers (马拉松配速员), also known as ‘rabbits’.”,所以马拉松配速员也被称为“Rabbits”,答案直接从原文提取。
57.第二段指出“Usually, there are about 12 pacers in a marathon.”,表明一场马拉松大约有12名配速员,这是原文直接给出的信息。
58.第三段提到“Besides, during the hardest part of the race, pacers support runners by encouraging them.”,说明在比赛最艰难的部分,配速员通过鼓励选手来给予支持,答案从原文直接获取。
59.第四段开头“It’s meaningful but hard to be a pacer.”
60.第四段李军说“I want to help others achieve goals.”
61.
例文
Dear Tony,
I am glad to know that you want to be a volunteer for China Zheng-Kai International Marathon!
It’s really a great choice. Since you are a little shy, you can start talking with classmates actively and be more outgoing to improve your communication skills. To get better physical strength, you can keep taking exercise such as jogging every day in your free time. As for your parents, you can have a sincere talk with them. Tell them volunteering is helpful for your growth and you will take good care of yourself. I’m sure they will agree with you soon.
I hope you can find your own ways to relax and keep a good balance between study and relaxation.
Yours,
Li Hua
