My hometown is a small mountain village in northern Sichuan. Fifteen years ago, it was a hard place to live. Every spring, strong sandstorms would blow through the village. The sandy soil could not hold onto the bushes, and the air was always filled with yellow dust. People could hardly go out without wearing masks. Villagers mainly grew corn on the dry fields, and most young men left to find work in cities.
Great changes have taken place since our government gave support to environmental protection. Villagers planted millions of bushes and trees to hold the soil. Now the hills around the village are covered with green trees. Sandstorms never come here anymore. People built high-tech greenhouses to grow vegetables and fruit, and they sell their products online. A new highway was built three years ago, so more tourists come here for sightseeing every year. Many villagers have moved back to run family farms. When I compare the past with the present, I feel really amazed by these great achievements. Our home has become a beautiful and comfortable place to live.
