Maybe we did not feel it at that time. But in September, there was a shaking under our feet for more than a week. Now, scientists find that it is because of global (全球) warming.
The shaking came from Earth’s crust, it is the shell of earth, just like the skin of an apple. It lasted for nine days and went across the whole world.
The study shows that it started in eastern Greenland. Because of global warming, at the foot of a mountain, the ice got thin. It couldn’t carry the rocks on it, and the 1,200-meter-high mountain came into small pieces. The rocks all fell down into the sea. This made a really big tsunami (海啸). It was about 110 meters high. Over the next few days, the water moved back and ahead, hitting the cliffs (崖壁).
Luckily, nobody was hurt. But the scientists believe more things like this will take place because the world is getting warmer.
( )24. What does the underlined “it” refer to (指) in Paragraph 1
A. Hot weather on Earth. B. The ground under our feet.
C. Changes in Earth’s crust. D. The shaking of the ground.
( )25. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage

C. The scientists believe they can stop the shaking. D. Global warming will keep changing the world.

Some people feel very close to nature. Some feel calmer in green spaces, while others feel happier near the sea. A new study suggests that this connection to nature might have to do with people’s childhood. It could affect how much they care about the environment when they are older.
Researchers in Austria wanted to know what made people more likely to protect the environment.
They did a survey with a lot of volunteers, including 1,240 men and 1,130 women. They asked the volunteers about their environmental habits. The questions included how often they spent time in green and blue spaces and how close they felt to nature. The researchers especially wanted to know how often these people visited places like rivers or the sea as children.
The study found something interesting. People who spent a lot of time near water as children felt more connected to nature when they grew up. They also spend a lot of time in both green and blue spaces now. The researchers think that spending time in blue spaces as a child might make someone care more about the environment when they are older.
The researchers also found some interesting differences between men and women. They found that men tend to spend more time in green spaces, such as going hiking or having a picnic. However, women tend to do more things to preserve the environment. For example, they always ride bikes, use cloth bags or use less electricity and water.
The researchers hope to find a stronger connection between spending time near water as a child and caring more about the environment later in life. They believe that if they can solve this problem, it might help solve environmental problems in the future.
( )28. How many volunteers took part in the survey
A. 2,370. B. 1,240. C. 1,130. D. 2,730.
( )29. Who probably care more about the environment according to paragraph 3

A. Create. B. Protect. C. Pollute. D. Challenge.
( )31. What might the researchers do next according to the passage
Write a report about how to enjoy nature.
B. Do a new survey on environmental problems.
C. Find the differences on environmental behaviors (环保行为) between men and women.
D. Explore a stronger connection between childhood’s experience and nature care.

You are a nature lover Then you must visit Zhangye Geopark (地质公园) in China! It’s recognized by UNESCO as one of the best geoparks in the world. Here, you can enjoy the beauty of the rainbow hills.
They are low hills that look like waves and have many different colours, just like a rainbow! There is little grass growing on the land. When you see the hills from above, it’s like you’re looking at rainbows painted on the ground.
You may wonder how these colourful hills came to be. Millions of years ago, this area was under a lake. Over time, rivers brought in sand and stones with different kinds of metal elements. These were left in layers on the bottom of the lake. Some layers were red, some yellow, and others turned purple or blue. Later, as the climate became colder and drier, the lake dried up. Then, something amazing happened!
The underground land began to rise up and push against each other. The layers of sandstone were lifted higher and higher. Through years of wind, sun, and rain, they formed the colourful hills we see today.
June to September is the most wonderful time to visit. The mornings and evenings are cooler than the hot days, giving you the perfect weather to enjoy the sunrises and sunsets. Sunshine after a summer rain will make the colours even brighter and more beautiful.
