A
People duck responsibility for reasons ranging from simple laziness or a fear of failure, to a sense of feeling frightened by the scale of a problem or a situation. Whatever the reason, if people fail to take responsibility, they'll fail in their jobs, they'll fail their teams, and they'll fail to grow as individuals. All of this makes it important to address the issue.
Signs of not being responsible
There are several signs to watch out for. These include:
Lacking interest in their work, and in the well being of the team
Blaming others for mistakes and failures
Missing deadlines
Avoiding challenging tasks and projects, and not taking risks
Regularly complaining about unfair treatment by team leaders and members and engaging in self pity
Avoiding being dependent on others for work, advice and instructions
Lacking trust in team members and leaders
Ways to encourage responsibility
Start by talking
Your first step is to talk to the individuals concerned. Are there circumstances that are contributing to the situation, or problems that you can deal with
Communicate roles, responsibilities and objectives
Your people need to know clearly what their roles and responsibilities are. Ensure that you have an up to date job description for each team member, and be as detailed as possible about every responsibility that they have.
Re engage people
Your people will be more engaged if their work is consistent with their values. Talk to them to find out what they are. Then, illustrate how their daily tasks and responsibilities go with those values.
Give plenty of praise
Finally, be sure to give your people plenty of praise when they do take responsibility. And help them improve by providing them with regular, effective and fair feedback.

B[2026山东日照期中]
People say honesty is the best policy, but we all sometimes bend the truth. The average person lies twice in the first ten minutes of meeting someone new and up to 50 percent of the time when speaking to their mother. A study showed that 99 percent of people lie, and even the few who claimed not to are probably also lying. What if, just for a day, you were incapable of telling a lie, no matter how small
According to anthropologists, there is a tribe whose members live in the mountains of Central America and are unable to lie ever. The Tarahumara people, famed for their long distance running, avoided the influence of outsiders for thousands of years. In doing so, they also maintained a strict moral principle based on utmost honesty.
The Tarahumara still place this value system above all else. Some psychologists believe that over time, their emphasis on truth telling caused changes in brains' chemical makeup. They may have less gray matter in the prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain responsible for creating lies. What started as a moral duty to tell the truth may have become a physiological feature of the members of this unique tribe.
So does this mean that it's possible for all humans to evolve out of lying Well, maybe, but it doesn't sound very likely, does it According to some sources, lying was first used by humans to promote cooperation and to create bonds between individuals. That's why one of the most common types of lies is a white lie. Often white lies are told to protect someone from hearing something that will hurt their feelings.
When language developed, lying quickly became easier and more common. Can you imagine how difficult it would be to lie without using any words Language makes it possible for humans as young as two to lie.
Instead of evolving out of lying, exactly the opposite is happening. As we evolve, we lie more. But there's good news! Individually, we tell fewer lies as we age. We may not evolve out of lying as a species, but as individuals over the course of a single lifetime, there is still hope.
( ) 4. What does the first paragraph convey
A. Lying is common. B. Humans are born liars.
C. Honesty is valuable. D. Lying is culture based.
( ) 5. How has the Tarahumara's value system influenced them according to psychologists
A. It has increased their confidence. B. It has strengthened their memory.
C. It has improved their language skills. D. It has changed their brain chemistry.
( ) 6. Why did humans tell lies originally
A. For self protection. B. For avoiding hurting others.
C. For social connection. D. For taking advantage of others.
( ) 7. Which of the following may the author agree with
A. People tend to be more honest as they grow old.
B. Honesty should be placed above everything else.
C. Biological evolution will stop people from telling lies.
D. Technological progress will make lying more difficult.

How to Develop Personal Integrity
Personal integrity involves being the best, most honest and morally sound version of yourself. __1__ When you work on improving it, you enrich your own life and improve the lives of others. Here are several effective ways to strengthen it.
Live with honesty and keep your promises. __2__ If you are dishonest or misleading with others, you cannot live a life of integrity. Part of being honest with others also includes keeping any promises that you make. A broken promise is effectively a lie, and lying is inconsistent with living with integrity.
__3__ You cannot live a life of integrity without being mindful of and concerned for others. A lack of compassion can result in selfishness and damaged relationships. Try to be understanding of how others feel. Be kind in daily interactions—for example, greet a hard working cashier warmly.
Create a personal mission statement for your life. A good way to ensure that you are living a life of integrity is to lay out a list for yourself. Write out your goals and values, and think hard about what kind of person you want to be. __4__ Whenever you feel uncertain, your mission statement should help ground you and remind you of the person you hope to become.
Finally, maintain a dedication to your values. Your values guide you through life and may change as you grow, but what matters most is never compromising them. Focus on what truly matters to you, and let those values determine how you treat others and make decisions. __5__
Integrity is not achieved overnight, but through constant practising, you can become a person truly worthy of trust and respect.
A. Show compassion and empathy towards others.
B. Keep this list in a visible place and review it daily.
C. Honesty is one of the most important aspects of integrity.
D. Your integrity may stem from your beliefs or goals in life.

一、 阅读理解
A[2025山东临沂期中]
In a community centre in Kenya's Laikipia county, Juliana Loshiro stands before her pupils. They listen and repeat simple words and greetings in Yaakunte(also called Yaaku), the language of their community. Though it might seem strange that even older people cannot speak the language, one of the pupils stands up and explains why he is in the class: his grandparents died before they could teach him Yaakunte, and his mother, a Maasai, did not know the language. “So we got lost.”
Loshiro teaches about 300 students twice a week. But the lessons are about more than just saving a language; they are about preserving the Yaakunte culture too. The Mukogodo Forest, one of the largest in East Africa, is the traditional home of the Yaaku. Originally hunter gatherers, they looked after the 74,000 acre forest, using it for hunting, rituals(宗教仪式) and the collection of plants and honey.
Loshiro believes that by saving the language she is also safeguarding the knowledge the language holds about the wildlife of the forest, empowering future Yaaku to protect it. Every week, she takes her students to the forest to plant trees such as wild olive or cedar. So far they have planted 10,000 seedlings and distributed 50,000 seedballs. They then tag trees with labels that have words in Yaakunte. “As the trees grow,” she says, “the language grows.”
Changes in the 20th century pushed Yaakunte to the edge of extinction. The Yaaku lived alongside the Maasai, a pastoral(田园生活的) community who looked down on the hunter gatherers for not having livestock. When Yaaku girls began marrying their neighbouring pastoralists, and parents received livestock as bride wealth, Yaaku fathers began to demand cattle rather than just beehives as had been the Yaaku custom. The temptation(诱惑) to identify with pastoralists was stronger, so the Yaaku gradually assimilated_into the Maasai and gave up their language for Maasai.
Loshiro is working on other ways to preserve Yaakunte, including building a website and app to digitize the language and make learning easier. She hopes her pupils will be fluent in Yaakunte after five years of classes and—apart from language—know their culture.
( ) 1. What can be learned from the first paragraph
A. Yaaku kids are poorly educated.
B. The Yaaku population is aging fast.
C. Yaakunte is in danger of extinction.
D. The Yaaku community remains uncontacted.
( ) 2. Why does Loshiro plant trees in the forest with her students
A. To get them close to nature.
B. To give their culture a future.
C. To cultivate their hands on abilities.
D. To experience their ancestors' hardships.
( ) 3. What do the underlined words “assimilated into” in paragraph 4 mean
A. Won over. B. Turned against.
C. Became part of. D. Lost control of.
( ) 4. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. Growing a Word Forest B. Changing Old Customs
C. Rescuing a Lost Community D. Preserving Local Landscapes
B[2025浙江杭州一模]
A few days ago, I watched a video of myself talking in perfect Chinese. I've been studying the language on and off for only a few years, and I'm far from fluent. But there I was, pronouncing each character just as a native speaker would. “My favorite food is sushi,” I said—wo zui xihuan de shiwu shi shousi.
I'd created the video using software from a Los Angeles based artificial intelligence start up called HeyGen. The technology, which only needs a single selfie and a script to generate deepfake videos of real people “saying” almost anything, is a testament(证明) to the advancements in AI language tools. This got me thinking about the declining interest in language learning with fewer students enrolling in foreign language courses and the decrease of English proficiency among young people in some places.
AI translation, integrated into social media and messaging platforms, seems to be everywhere. Even language learning apps are using AI generated content in their marketing. However, language translation is an art rather than a science. Something enormous will be lost in exchange for that convenience. As Anne, a Chinese translator, said, “Building a ladder between widely different languages, such as Chinese and English, is sometimes as difficult as a doctor building a bridge in a patient's heart.”
Language learning fosters cultural competency, a skill that AI cannot simply copy. Learning a different way to speak, read, and write helps people discover new ways to see the world. No machine can replace such a profound human experience. Deborah Cohn, a language professor, emphasizes that language learning is actually about understanding and connecting with different cultures. Instead of abandoning language courses in favor of AI, some educators advocate for emphasizing the intercultural aspects of language learning. Paula Krebs of the MLA points out that even with a “universal translator”, sometimes, the greater meaning of people's utterance(言辞) remains a mystery.
In essence, while AI language tools offer convenience, they lack the depth and cultural insight that comes from human language learning. The challenge and beauty of learning a language are in understanding the cultural tapestry(织锦) that weaves through words, something AI has yet to achieve.
( ) 5. Why does the author give the example in paragraph 1
A. To promote the language software.
B. To show off his Chinese language skills.
C. To prove learning a language is a wasted effort.
D. To encourage critical thinking about AI language tools.
( ) 6. What can we learn from paragraph 3
A. AI translation deserves more attention.
B. Language apps play a key role in marketing.
C. Language translation is far beyond technology.
D. Learning a different language is an uphill battle.
( ) 7. What is the key benefit of learning a language according to the passage
A. Better digital literacy.
B. Improved translation skills.
C. Deeper cultural confidence.
D. Effective intercultural interaction.
( ) 8. What does the author imply in the last paragraph
A. AI language tools offer convenience.
B. AI facilitates language learning in terms of culture.
C. AI is far from perfect in helping language understanding.
D. AI has achieved success in the development of language learning tools.
二、 七选五[2025广东部分学校联考]
A single chopstick breaks easily, but a bundle stays unbroken. __1__ For high school seniors facing academic pressure and future uncertainties, learning to cooperate with others is not just a skill—it's a survival tool.
__2__ When preparing for exams, study groups allow students to share knowledge. For example, one might explain math concepts clearly, while another is strong in analyzing literature. Together, they fill gaps in understanding. A classmate's different viewpoint can turn a confusing problem into a solvable one, puzzle pieces fitting together to reveal a complete picture.
Cooperation also builds social skills. __3__ Imagine planning a class event: some prefer creative ideas, while others focus on practical details. Through discussion, students learn to balance innovation and realism—a skill vital for adult life. Even disagreements, if handled calmly, become lessons in understanding others' feelings.
Working together helps overcome challenges. During tough times, like preparing for important exams, classmates can support each other emotionally. A shared laugh during a break or an encouraging word before a test reduces stress. Research shows students in supportive teams perform better. __4__
However, teamwork requires effort. Avoid relying too much on others or dominating discussions. A good team member contributes actively but also steps back when needed. __5__ Think of teamwork as a dance: everyone has a role, and harmony comes from cooperation, not chaos. Regular communication, like weekly check ins, ensures everyone stays aligned(一致的) while respecting individual strengths.
So, cooperation is a bridge connecting individual talent to collective success. It prepares students not only for exams but also for future careers and relationships.
A. Teamwork makes learning more effective.
B. This simple truth applies to teamwork too.
C. Working on a team, you have the entire group's support.
D. They always stay motivated longer than those working alone.
E. Team members are under heavy pressure to make a decision.

During his time at Massachusetts' Springfield College, Bob Smith was a football star on the offensive line. In 1998, as the team's captain, he led the school to its first postseason game. However, compared with other football giants, he was “way too small” to consider a football career.
After college, Smith moved out to California with his eyes set on a bodybuilding career. Seeing Smith setting off with only $500, his dad warned him he wouldn't make it more than two weeks. He moved sports equipment for one company and then worked in the store of the Venice Beach Gold's Gym for $6 an hour. “If you wanted to know about nutrition or protein, I was your guy,” he said.
He did everything he could to make ends meet. “I was struggling, but I wasn't ever sad. I was in the place where fitness had become famous, and I actually loved what I did.” Soon after, he got his start wrestling at a small market, where Bob Smith gradually earned his fame.
Smith also authored several children's books. When Smith set out to create a book series for kids, he was committed to the message, “It's okay to be different. And it's okay to be yourself.” So he created the character of a monster truck named Elbow Grease who isn't the best in any competition, but remains true to himself and always finishes what he sets out to do. “Elbow Grease's strength is determination and the ability to just focus and work hard on the task ahead,” he said.
Ever the advocate for WWE(World Wrestling Entertainment), Smith poured his all into expanding wrestling's reach into the global market by learning Mandarin—he has been studying Mandarin for five years, and now has the ability to speak it at news conferences. He became fascinated with the language, even studying with a tutor.

B[2026江苏苏州期末]
I started college dreaming of becoming a forensic pathologist(法医病理学家). I wanted to help give a voice to those who could no longer speak. I would need a medical degree, so I registered as a biology major. Research wasn't on my agenda, partly because such opportunities in Puerto Rico were limited.
The following year, Hurricane Maria hit. It leveled our communities, causing thousands of deaths and billions of dollars in damage. Two weeks after the hurricane, I, together with 29 other students, was offered a chance to temporarily continue our studies at Brown University while our school recovered.
On the flight north, which was booked by Brown, everything felt unreal—leather seats, fresh fruit, and, after landing, a reception in a splendid hall. I felt conflicted. Here I was, feeling joy and wonder at a new experience, while everyone back home struggled.
Brown set us up with classes, books, dorm rooms, and funds to purchase winter clothes. It was in an introductory biology course that my path began to shift. I was fascinated by the professor's lecture and reached out after class. Surprisingly, he immediately offered me a research position in his lab to work on a project modeling how climate change could influence the distributions of plants. The research opened my eyes to the important work scientists were doing.
I began to see a path in science beyond medicine and think a Ph.D. was what I wanted. Yet, despite the excitement, I felt doubtful, anxious, and guilty. I struggled to reconcile(调和) my new opportunities with the destruction back home. I also worried about leaving behind my dream of medicine to pursue a path that I was excited about but that might not lead to a job in Puerto Rico.
After I shared with my mentor(导师) my conflicted feelings on the future, he replied: “There's nothing better than doing what excites you.” The words felt like permission to follow my passion.
Now I am in the fourth year of my Ph.D. It is the hurricane that blew me off my planned course and set me on an unexpected path.

So it was almost a completely terrible show. Except that I'm lucky enough to have some absolutely brilliant help.” He paused and pointed, “Thanks, Chip and Haley. They made the whole thing work. They wrote great stuff, gave me great advice, and kept me together.” Everyone looked at Chip and Haley and gave a short round of applause while Meyer looked on approvingly.

B[2026广东深圳宝安月考]
Recently, I spent time with my 14 month old grandson, Theodore. It was an eye opening experience because, as a grandfather, I was able to play and interact with him without having to balance other responsibilities. His parents were more than happy to let him and me play while they caught up on some sleep.
His days were full of exploration and inquiry. Every drawer and cupboard had all sorts of new stuff that needed to be taken out, examined, sometimes thrown and sometimes put carefully away. It brought back memories as he went through the same drawers his father had explored over 30 years ago.
But what struck me the most was the hours of concentration spent trying out new stuff and working to understand what was happening. He spent a long time playing with five stacking rings. He didn't just stack them. He dropped them onto the carpet where they stayed still, and on the hard floor where they rolled. He went back and forth, testing how each ring behaved in different places. He watched closely every time.
Theodore was always observing, thinking, and learning. It reminded me that when we're very young, we're all great learners. But as we grow older, many of us lose that motivation. Instead of thinking critically, we'll try to fit whatever new information we might encounter into our existing world view instead of expanding our horizons.
The world changes. If we don't keep up, we will fall behind. How can you have relevant opinions when you don't understand the issue itself People are satisfied with what they knew years ago, or what they heard from an article titled “Experts say …”. People lack the motivation to question what they hear or to understand different points of view. We can't investigate everything like Theodore, but we can stay curious. Being a successful creative person demands that we be lifelong learners.
( ) 4. What can we infer from Theodore's exploration in paragraph 2
A. He was looking for his father's old toys.
B. He was creating disorder without any purpose.
C. He was helping grandparents with housework.
D. He was naturally curious about his environment.
( ) 5. How did Theodore try to understand the rings
A. By lining them up to prevent falling.
B. By following instructions from adults.
C. By concentrating on making them stand still.
D. By observing their movements on different surfaces.
( ) 6. What makes adults fall behind according to the author
A. A fear of doing things wrong. B. A lack of curiosity to explore.
C. A distraction of various activities. D. A distrust in provided information.
( ) 7. What is the author's purpose in telling Theodore's story
A. To describe a grandparent's role.
B. To motivate people to keep learning.
C. To prove that early education is vital.
D. To show how curiosity is passed down.
