The Mid-Autumn Festival
The Mid-Autumn Festival falls on the 15th of the eighth month of our Chinese lunar calendar. As one of the traditional Chinese festivals, it has been enjoying great popularity in our country.
Usually, no matter how far away or how busy we are, we still try to go home for the celebration. The moon that night looks the brightest in the whole lunar month. What we love most is the time when we enjoy the full moon together. With the beautiful moon up in the sky, we sit together and eat mooncakes and fruit, sharing our stories. In addition to these traditional activities, we have a wider range of choices such as travelling and visiting our relatives or friends.
The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the traditional festivals in China, playing a significant role in Chinese history and culture.
【答案】 When Coach Pitt said “Nice work!” to her at the finish line, Eva was surprised. She had expected to be the last one to cross the finish line, but instead she had come in the middle of the pack. Eva realized that she had underestimated her own abilities. She also learned a valuable lesson: sometimes, the only way to overcome a challenge is to break it into smaller, more manageable parts. This experience gave her a new sense of confidence in her abilities and laid a solid foundation for her to face other challenges in the future.2025-2026学年新疆和田地区皮山县下学期高一期中英语试卷

While established by Woodrow Wilson as a holiday in the United States in 1911, the practice of recognizing mothers on a specific day or time of year has spread to more than 40 countries. Here's a look at the various traditions.
France
Mother's Day in France only started in the 1950s. After World War I, it was celebrated on the last Sunday in May, unless it conflicted with the Pentecost(五旬节). If it did, mothers were celebrated on the first Sunday of June. Regardless of the day, a traditional gif is a flower-shaped cake.
Japan
Following WWI, Mother's Day in Japan gained some popularity, and it is now celebrated on the second Sunday of May. Gifts include red or pink conations(康乃馨) as they symbolize sweetness and purity. Children will often draw pictures of their mothers and present them to mom in addition to preparing dishes that their mothers have taught them.
Sweden
Celebrated on the last Sunday in May, the day isn't all that different from the U. S. version. There's breakfast in bed and homemade cards and the like. One difference is that the Swedish Red Cross collects money by selling red plastic flowers. The money from the flowers goes to mothers and children in need.
Thailand
While all mothers are recognized during Mother's Day in Thailand, the holiday is largely centered on Sirikit, the queen mother of Thailand. Mother's Day is celebrated on her birthday, August 12, and public places and households are decorated with lights and pictures of Sirikit. Flowers like jasmine are popular gifts.
19. What do Japanese children usually do for their mothers on Mother's Day
A. Buy pictures. B. Cook meals. C. Grow flowers. D. Present cards.
20. Which country has a fixed date for Mother's Day
A. France. B. Japan. C. Thailand. D. Sweden.
21. What's the author's purpose in writing the text
A. To tell us how different countries celebrate Mother's Day.
B. To protect traditions of Mother's Day in different places.
C. To introduce the origin and development of Mother's Day.
D. To call on us to show respect for our mother on Mother's Day.
B
I’m in the area of Noailles in Marseille, France’s second largest city and its main trade seaport. Some small shops sell vegetables, meat, and, it seems, all the spices of the Middle East. In addition to French, languages spoken on the busy streets include Arabic and African French. It all adds up to one of the most ethnically diverse cities in Europe.
Close to the downtown street, I discover an Algerian restaurant, whose owner makes his signature dish-couscous with barley, not the usual wheat, using a recipe that hasn’t changed since the 1920s. Couscous is an necessary part of Marseille culture. The dish was added to the UNESCO’s Lists of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2020.
To be honest, before I travelled here, couscous had not been the first meal that came to mind when I thought of Marseille. It was bouillabaisse, the rich soup with olive oil, garlic and saffron. I imagined enjoying it at a small portside cafe. This was clearly a romantic fantasy. For one thing, there are no small cafes at historic city. For another, the restaurants do serve bouillabaisse, but when I see the price at one place I am shocked: 69 euros! No bowl of soup should cost that much.
I give up and end up two streets away from the old harbor in a new restaurant, Ourea. For 28 euros, Chef Matthieu Roche serves a three-course lunch that includes tuna steaks and couscous.
More and more young, talented people are discovering that Marseille is an ideal place to live. There is also a growing number of Parisians moving here every year. Tired of the rush and expense of life in larger cities, the newcomers come looking for the more relaxed Mediterranean way of life.
Walking through these contrasting neighborhoods of Marseille. I think about the distinct communities here living in the same neighborhoods — together, side by side, but not mixed. They may also feel they are Marseillais first regardless of nationalities.
22. Which word can best describe Marseille according to the first paragraph
A. Remote. B. Commercial. C. Industrial. D. Inland.
23. What made the author leave the Algerian restaurant
A. The unreasonable charge. B. The unbearable flavor.
C. The unsatisfying service. D. The noisy atmosphere.
24. Why do the newcomers choose Marseille rather than other big cities
A. To make a fortune. B. To experience a dish.
C. To learn a language. D. To live a leisurely life.
25. In which column of a magazine can we probably read the text
A. Fashion. B. Food. C. Trade. D. Travel.
C
Yuan Longping was a famous Chinese scientist. He was born in 1930 in Beijing, but he grew up in different places because of the war. After finishing college in 1953, he worked as a teacher in an agricultural school in Hunan.
In the 1960s, China faced serious food shortages. Yuan decided to study rice to increase production. He spent years doing research in the fields. In 1973, he managed to develop the world’s first hybrid rice. This kind of rice could produce 20% more rice than common rice. His achievement solved the problem of food shortage in China and saved many people from hunger.
Yuan Longping didn’t stop his work. He continued to improve hybrid rice. His team later developed super hybrid rice, which had even higher production. He also shared his technology with other countries, including India, Vietnam, and the Philippines. So far, more than 800 million people around the world have benefited from his invention.
Yuan Longping was not only a great scientist but also a simple man. He liked playing the violin, swimming, and reading. He often said he had two dreams: one was to enjoy the cool under the rice plants taller than men, and the other was to grow hybrid rice all over the world. He passed away in 2021, but his contribution to the world will never be forgotten.

If you’ve ever cooked a complex meal with someone, you know the level of cooperation required. American researchers recently showed that in a virtual kitchen, artificial intelligence (AI) learned how to cooperate with a human just by watching humans work together.
There are some ways researchers have already trained AI to work with people. Many approaches involve reinforcement learning, where an AI interacts with an environment online — which can include other AIs or humans — and is rewarded for making decisions that lead to desired outcomes. Google Deep Mind’s program Alpha Go, for example, learned the board game Go using reinforcement learning.
But starting training an AI from zero to interact with people through complete trial and error can waste a lot of time and can be risky. Another choice is to train one AI to model human behavior, and then use that as a tireless human replacement for another AI to learn to interact with. Researchers have used this method in a simple game. But repeating human behavior in more complex settings can be difficult.
Thus in the study, researchers used offline reinforcement learning — a method for developing strategies by analyzing recorded behavior rather than through real-time interaction. Previously, offline reinforcement learning had been used mostly to help virtual robots move or to help AIs solve mazes (迷宫), but here it was applied to the tricky problem of working with humans. Instead of learning by interacting with people, this AI learned by watching human interactions.
“The research work introduces a way for AI to learn to team up with humans, without even practicing with us. It could help improve human-AI interactions.” Says Nikolaidis, director of a lab.
In the future, humans will increasingly work with AI, both online and in the physical world. Sometimes we’ll want an AI to silently guide our choices and strategies, like a good teammate who knows our weaknesses. “It solves an important problem — how AI can learn to work with people.” says Nikolaidis.
30. What is the function of reinforcement learning in the passage
A. It’s how AI learned to work with people
B. It’s how researchers helped AI learn cooking.
C. It’s how Google Deep Mind developed AlphaGo.
D. It’s how AI got rewards for making correct choices.
31. What is the advantage of offline reinforcement learning
A. It relies on real-time interaction.
B. It helps AI learn by interacting with people.
C. It takes less time and has less danger.
D. It is realized through mistakes and corrections.
32. What is AI expected to do in the future
A. To cook a complex meal on its own.
B. To point out our weaknesses directly.
C. To offer voiceless guidance sometimes.
D. To solve difficult problems for humans.
33. What is the text mainly about
A. AI learns cooperation by practicing.
B. AI learns cooking from humans.
C. AI learns cooking without humans’ help.
D. AI learns teamwork by watching humans.

第二节 (共1小题;满分10分)
65. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写一段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Eva spent the first week of high school trying to keep her head above water. One of the major headaches for her was finding her way in the huge school building. It was a six-story building. On each floor, hallways stretched in four directions, leading to classrooms, laboratories, and teachers’ offices. Somewhere in the building, there was also a library, a cafeteria, and a gym.
Having a poor sense of direction, Eva found it impossible to get around in such a huge building. All the different hallways and rooms were too much to think about, let alone commit to memory. She decided that she would memorize where her classes were and then pretend that the rest of the place didn’t exist.
In her first P. E. class, Eva was shocked when Coach Pitt announced that everyone had to run one mile around the track outside. She searched the faces of her classmates for signs of panic. There was nothing she feared more than having to run a whole mile. To Eva, “a mile” was used to describe long distances. It was ten miles from her home to her grandfather’s, and that always seemed like a long way, even in a car!
When Coach Pitt blew his whistle (哨子), Eva figured she would be left in the dust. However, while some of her classmates edged ahead, others actually fell behind. “It’s just the beginning,” she thought. “I’ll come in last for sure.”
Soon Eva began to breathe hard, with her heart pounding and legs shaking. Feeling desperate, Eva started using a mind trick on herself. She stopped thinking about the word “mile”. Instead, she focused on reaching the shadow cast on the track by an oak tree up ahead. Then she concentrated on jogging to the spot where the track curved (拐弯). After that, she tried to see if she could complete her first lap. One lap turned into two, then three, then four.
注意:1.续写词数应为80词左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
When Coach Pitt said “Nice work!” to her at the finish line, Eva was surprised.
