W:Lucky you!
M:What do you mean I don’t like sleeping on the sofa!

(Text 10)

“I feel unlikable, lonely and hopeless,” said Lisa,a bright teenager from a loving home.“It seems that nobody wants to become my friend. What’s wrong with me ”
Like Lisa, many of us experience loneliness. The truth is that all people,no matter what their ages or characters are, experience loneliness at least sometimes. It’s healthy and natural to want to be around people who care.We all need others in our lives.
A wise man explains that if we want friends,we must be friendly and reach out to others. But it has risks.Because we are often afraid of rejection (拒绝),many of us are unwilling to reach out to others. We take a safer way and wait for others to make friends with us.But if we want friends,we’ve got to get beyond this.
If making friends is your goal as well, you need to consider the following two points.
Be willing to take the initiative (主动权).If you see someone who you would like to know, don’t wait for him/her to make the first move.Get close to him/her and begin a conversation.Let him/her know in a non-aggressive (无攻击性的) way that you are interested in being friends with him/her.
Ask questions.Start your first conversation by asking this possible friend what he/she likes to do or asking about his/her family.Be sure to ask questions that cannot be replied with “yes” or “no”.For example, don’t ask “Do you have a dog ” Instead, say “So,tell me about your pets.” Avoiding asking “yes” or “no” questions makes your possible friend not end your communication with a one-word answer.

Research has shown that human beings are dependent in nature. We therefore depend on each other to survive in life. The interdependence of people therefore leads to development of interpersonal relationships that are built with the aim of making life better and building frameworks for success.
Relationships are common phenomena in the society and they are found everywhere in families, schools, workplaces, professional teams, etc. Each kind of relationship has its own requirements and unofficial rules and each individual relates with a second individual in a unique way depending on the characters of the two individuals.Since there is no perfect society, relationships are built under very strong foundations of mistakes and compromises.
Other people may conduct research on how they are supposed to relate to people, but this has seldom worked for people. Therefore, the strongest relationships are built through people relating with each other and knowing each other with time.
Since the society is made up of people, they are the key determinants(决定性因素) of how their society will be.Thus, for a society to be a good one,the people living in it should relate well and solve differences properly. The achievement of this goal may prove not to be given direct answers, but with persistence and goodwill,a good society is achievable. The people living in the society just have to wish each other well and be willing to help each other as humanly as possible.
The development of a good relationship among human beings living together is of great importance to both the people and the community. It is common knowledge that when individuals in a given community or organisation fall out in public,it is the organisation that suffers more than the people involved. With this kind of statement, one may even wonder why people have to disagree with their society causing losses that may be financial or otherwise.
Building a relationship acts as an investment (投资) or even insurance against bad lucks. As a matter of fact, keeping good relationships between and among people costs a lot of offerings. This is because nobody is perfect and thus to own a good relationship with other people, there has to be compromises.

Point in the direction of food on the kitchen door, and your dog will follow your guidance to eat it up.That is a skill even our closest relative in the animal kingdom cannot match.
“Chimps (黑猩猩) can perform much better than dogs on so many things,” said Brian Hare,a professor at Duke University.“But they’re not particularly good at understanding cooperative communicative gestures.” Previous studies have shown conflicting results about whether both dog and wolf puppies (幼崽) can read human gestures. So Hare’s team compared a group of young dogs with their wild cousins to test the question out.
The dog puppies were service-dogs-in-training,and most of them were raised by a nonprofit organisation.Like other young puppies, they engaged in human interaction sometimes throughout the day,and they were still looked after by their mother. The young wolves,on the other hand, were separated from their mother 10 or 11 days after they were born, and they were around human handlers 24/7,living at the Wildlife Science Center.
The scientists put 44 dog puppies and 37 wolf puppies, all between 5 and 18 weeks old, through a series of tests and challenges. In one task, researchers placed a treat in one of the two bowls, and then pointed a finger at the bowl containing the snack three times. The dog puppies were twice as likely to understand where to go even though they had experienced far less human contact, and the researchers made sure the puppies were not just smelling the food. And in a separate test, the dog puppies were 30 times more likely to approach an unknown human and made significantly more eye contact with people than little wolves.
“The comparison of so many young dogs and wolves on a wide variety of tasks is very exciting,” said Angie Johnston,a researcher at Boston College, who was not involved with the new work.“It’s a very ambitious study.”

Dusty,the Wonder Dog
When I was a kid,Uncle Nell and Aunt Frances, brought me a four-month-old puppy. She was half German shepherd, half collie. As her pink tongue tickled (挠痒) my face with wet licks,it was love at first hug.
My family named the puppy Dusty.Although I wanted to lay sole claim to her affection,in a family of seven kids,no one lays permanent claim to the family pet.
Dusty was our dog,not “my” dog.We soon realised that she had patience. My baby sister often transformed Dusty’s warm fur into a nap-time pillow—falling asleep on the rug.Like a protective mother,Dusty waited without moving until my sister woke.
Dusty doubled as a school crossing guard, too.Monday through Friday she’d walk us kids two blocks to St.Patrick’s Parochial, looking both ways to check for traffic before allowing us to cross the street. We’d wave good-bye as we entered the door, knowing Dusty would be waiting at the school door to claim us at the close of the school day.
Of all the contributions Dusty made to our family, one incident stands out far and above all others.Late one night Dusty rushed to my parents’ bedroom. She barked and barked. When she got no response,Dusty raced upstairs to my bedroom and my brothers’ bedroom and barked again and again. When she failed to fully wake us,she flew back down the steps and retimed to my parents’ room. Finally, she got Mum’s attention.
“What are you doing,Dusty ” Mum snapped, still halfway in dreamland.Dusty persisted.
Finally my mother gave in.“Okay, what is it ”
Dusty whined (哭嚷) and rushed out of Mum’s room.Thinking the dog needed to be let out to relieve herself,my mother followed Dusty to the front door.
When Mum opened the door to let her out,Dusty tore across the street, not stopping to do her business as my mother had assumed. Then she discovered what Dusty already knew.
注意:续写词数应为150个左右。

However,my mother refused to take all the credit(赞扬).“It was Dusty,”she told the firefighters.“She saved them. Not me.”It was then that we saw that the real hero was sitting beside me silently.I put my arms around her neck and kissed her square on the tip of her wet nose.“Thank you for saving Marianne,” I whispered into Dusty’s tan and black ear.“You’re the bravest dog I’ve ever known.” Dusty wagged her tail and licked my face. That old familiar rush of puppy love overtook me.I smiled and promised to let her sleep in my bed for the rest of her life.

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Paragraph 1:
The house across the street, where my best friend Marianne lived, was on fire.
Paragraph 2:
However,my mother refused to take all the credit (赞扬).
