二、完形填空
If you love reading books, you must know about the book The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain. The book is quite interesting and popular among kids. Even if I am an adult now, the book is 11 one of my favourites. After re-reading the book recently, I have 12 an important lesson from Tom Sawyer.
In our daily lives, we are often given some boring or tiring 13 . What’s in your mind when your mother 14 you to do some chores Have you ever wanted to complain I think most people have.
Tom Sawyer, however, had a different thought when he was given a boring task. One day, Aunt Polly told Tom to 15 the fence. Tom was doing his job, when his friend Ben Rogers happened to pass by. Instead of complaining, Tom told Ben that he felt 16 about the task. “Only one in a thousand—maybe even two thousand—boys can do this!” Tom said.
Tom’s words made Ben 17 in the task. He even gave Tom his apple so that he could have a chance to paint the fence. If Tom had thought about 18 but complaining, he would have had a bad day painting the fence.
This story teaches me a valuable lesson: Complaining is 19 . The next time you are given a boring or tiring task, don’t complain. Unlike what happens in the story of Tom Sawyer, it is unlikely that someone will come and do the work for you. So, don’t complain, 20 you’ll feel better and perhaps even do a better job!

14.A.trusts B.asks C.helps
15.A.paint B.repair C.examine
16.A.bored B.excited C.unexpected
17.A.interested B.stupid C.bored
18.A.everything B.anything C.nothing
19.A.useless B.endless C.powerful
20.A.if B.and C.but

Written by E. B.White and first published in 1952, Charlotte’s Web is a classic story set largely on a farm. It is a story of friendship and a celebration of farm life, which is full of warmth and wisdom.
The story takes place on a farm. Eight-year-old Fern Arable is sad when she hears that her father is going to kill the smallest pig. Saying that the pig has a right to life and promising to look after it in their family’s yard, she saves the animal and names him Wilbur. However, fearing his daughter is spending too much time with an animal, Mr Arable sends Wilbur to the nearby farm of Fern’s uncle, Mr Zuckerman.
At first, Wilbur’s lonely and misses Fern. However, he settles in his new home when he makes friends with a spider named Charlotte and other animals. When Wilbur learns that he is going to be killed and served at Christmas dinner, Charlotte comes up with a plan to save him.
Charlotte spins (结网) words of praise like “Some pig” for Wilbur on her web.
This catches the attention of the Zuckermans and their neighbours. They all think Wilbur is special and the thought of killing him becomes unthinkable.
When Wilbur is taken to the country fair, Charlotte goes to continue her work.
She spins new messages. The results draw huge crowds and Charlotte’s plan to save Wilbur’s life pays off.
At the close of the fair, however, Charlotte says goodbye to Wilbur. She is dying. But she entrusts (托付) her friend with her eggs. Heart broken, Wilbur takes the eggs back to the farm and sees that they hatch (孵化). Three of Charlotte’s “kids” stay with Wilbur and live happily with him on the farm.
