When the Spring Equinox comes, the time of the day is the same as the time of the night. Here are things you may not know about the Spring Equinox.

The ancient teachings in the Chinese classic, Huangdi Neijing, suggest that people eat seasonal foods to help keep healthy and bring good luck.
③Swallows fly north: The ancient Chinese people divided the fifteen days of the Spring Equinox into three “hou” or five-day parts. As the Chinese old saying goes, “Swallows fly back to the north in the first hou; thunder cracks the sky in the second hou; lightning occurs frequently in the third hou.”
④Egg-standing games: Standing an egg upright is a popular game across the country during the Spring Equinox. It is an old custom that dates back 4,000 years. People practise this tradition to celebrate the coming of spring. It is believed that if someone can make the egg stand, he will have good luck in the future.
⑤Flying kites: The Spring Equinox is a good time to fly kites. In ancient times, people did not have good medical resources. So to pray for health, they wrote their illness on a paper kite. When the kite was in the air, people would cut off the string to let the paper kite fly away. Later flying kites developed into a popular game of spring. On the Spring Equinox, people write a wish on the kite, hoping that the gods in the sky would see it.

Natalie Doan, a teenager in America, has always felt lucky to live in Rockaway, New York. Living just a few blocks from the beach, Natalie can see the ocean and hear the waves from her house. “It’s the ocean that makes Rockaway so special,” she says.
On October 29, 2012, the ocean turned extremely terrible. That night, Hurricane (飓风) Sandy hit the East Coast, and Rockaway was hit especially hard. The next day, Natalie and her family found their neighborhood in ruins. Many of Natalie’s friends had lost their homes and people were having the most difficult time, especially the elderly.

Jinan, famous as the City of Springs, has grown more popular because of plenty of leisure (休闲) parks: From “pocket parks” between communities to parks in the outer areas, the government-keeps trying its best to make our city greener.
41 . These leisure parks open up forests, hills, rivers and lakes so that visitors can walk through nature and get closer to wildlife. This year, our city will build more than 40 different kinds of parks. More universities choose to “open their gates” and share their greenery. A university has even opened its 800,000-square-meter green land to the public, which has turned into a new park for visitors to relax.
42 . For one thing, parks have become a place to spread intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产) to the public. For example, Daming Lake has held several shows of Jinan’s traditional Liuzi Opera for free. Shadow Puppetry (皮影戏) is on show every day in Five Dragon Pool. 43 . That’s why so many parks in Jinan provide yards for playing ball games, and most of them often hold fitness activities.
In addition to meeting people’s needs, park designers also add environmental protection ideas. 44 . Take Huashan Wetland Park as an example. The park has reached carbon-neutral (碳中和) since 2019. It also fully reuses rainwater and creates green energy.
45 . It meets people’s needs for a better living experience and makes the natural environment nicer everywhere.
A.Parks aren’t just used for leisure in Jinan.
B.So parks can be good for the environment too.

45.本空位于最后一段段首,应起总结全文的作用。上文提到济南建设更多公园、增加环保措施,选项E“As Jinan becomes greener, ‘the park city’ is becoming a reality.”中的“greener”呼应上文环保内容,“becoming a reality”与下文“meets people’s needs...makes the natural environment nicer”形成逻辑衔接。

A farmer Mr. Tan, said that the storm began early in the morning and lasted for over an hour.
“I was eating with my wife and children when we heard a loud noise,” he said. “A few minutes later, our house fell down on top of us. We tried our best to climb out but then I noticed that one of my children was missing. I went back inside and found him, safe but very scared.”
Mrs Smith said that her husband had just left for work when she felt that her house was moving. She ran outside at once with her children. “There was no time to take anything,” she said. “A few minutes later, the roof came down.”
It rained heavily. Soldiers helped to take people out of the flooded area. The welfare department (福利部门) offered them some food, dry clothes and a safe place.
