Last Saturday, my best friend Lucy and I went to a popular book 11 in the city center. We’d heard it was full of interesting books, 12 we were excited to explore.
When we got there, the first thing that caught our attention was the smell of new paper, it made our 13 feel hungry for great stories. The market was big but well-arranged, with each stall having a 14 sign telling people what kind of books they sold. Many sellers were 15 and let us read a few pages before deciding to buy.
We walked 16 to the teen fiction area, since that’s our favorite genre. Lucy was looking for a must-read novel her teacher had 17 . A kind seller advised her to try a book about 18 on a small island—it sounded perfect!
Next, we found a stall with a big “ 19 ” sign. Most books there were 30% off, including a poetry collection I’d been wanting. I decided to 20 down the title to make sure I didn’t forget it, then quickly added it to my bag.
While we were browsing, we heard two girls 21 a new book. They talked about its surprising 22 , which made us curious. We asked them to describe the story, and it sounded so good we bought it 23 .
24 for book lovers like us, this market was a dream come true. There were no 25 rules—just a chance to find great books and share our love for reading. We left with full bags and big smiles, already planning our next visit!

①Nowadays, pirated books are everywhere in the market. They are illegal and harmful. Pirated books steal the work of authors and publishers. They also have poor quality, which can hurt your reading experience and even your health. So, how can you tell a pirated book from a real one Here are some useful tips.
②First, look at the cover and the printing. A real book has a clear and bright cover. The words and pictures are sharp. However, a pirated book often has a blurry cover. The colours might look strange. When you open the book, the text inside might be uneven. Sometimes, the words are not clear, and you may even smell a strong, unpleasant ink odour.
③Second, check the binding(装订) and the paper. Original books(原版书籍) are well-bound. The pages are strongly held together, and the book lies flat when you open it. On the other hand, pirated books often use cheap glue for binding. The pages may fall out easily. Also, the paper is usually very thin. You can often see the words from the next page through the paper.
④Third, use technology. Many real books now have a QR code or a special anti-fake sticker on the back cover or the first page. You can scan the QR code with your phone. It will take you to the official website of the publisher to check if the book is real. This is a fast and easy way. Pirated books either don't have these codes, or the fake codes don't work.
⑤In conclusion, pirated books may be cheap, but they cause many problems. As students, we should choose to buy original books. By paying attention to the cover, the binding, and the security(安全) features, we can protect ourselves. More importantly, we show respect for knowledge and hard work when we say no to pirated books.

The next morning, we went to chat to the other slaves (奴隶) before they went to work. One of them was carrying food to the locked hut (木屋).
“Are you going to feed the dogs ” Tom asked him. “No, Master. This is for the runaway slave.” So we were right! Jim was in the hut.
We started digging the tunnel (隧道) to the hut that night. It was hard and it took us two nights to finish it. We came up under Jim’s bed. He was very surprised to see us. “Hello, Jim! We’re going to rescue (救) you.”
Tom said. “But we aren’t ready to do it yet. You’ll have to wait a couple of days. Don’t worry! You’ll soon be free!”
Then we crawled (爬) through the tunnel back to our bedroom. We sat on the bed and talked about a rescue plan.
“I’m going to write a letter to Uncle.” Tom said. “Of course I won’t sign it.”
“I’m going to warn him that somebody is planning to steal (偷) the runaway slave.” “Why are you going to do that, Tom ”
“Well, Huck, if Uncle Silas knows, he’ll try to stop the thieves. The adventure (冒险) will be more exciting if somebody tries to stop us.”
I didn’t understand why we had to look for trouble but I said nothing. Tom always knew best. So he wrote the letter and I climbed out of the window and put it under the front door.
Uncle Silas found it in the morning. After reading it, he went out without finishing his breakfast. At half past eleven we climbed out of the bedroom window and went to the hut. “Come on, Jim!” Tom said, “Huck, you go first. Then you, Jim. I will go last.”
We heard someone opening the door of the hut. A man shouted. “He’s gone! The thieves have stolen the runaway slave!”
We quickly crawled out the other end and ran towards the fence (篱笆). I turned around and saw a crowd of men outside the hut. They were carrying guns and looking for the thief.
I climbed over the fence and Jim followed me. Tom was right behind us. Unluckily he caught his trousers on a nail. He pulled them free but the man heard the noise. They pointed their guns at us.
“Answer! Or we’ll shoot (开枪).” they shouted.
We didn’t answer. We ran and then the men started shooting. We ran faster. We ran to the river, jumped into the canoe and started paddling (划桨). The men were still looking for us but we were safe on the raft.
“Jim! You’re a free man!” I said.
Jim was very happy. We were all happy.
“It was a great adventure.” Tom said. “I even got a bullet (子弹) in my leg!”
It was true. His leg was bleeding badly. Jim and I found some old shirts and wrapped them round Tom’s leg. “We must get a doctor.” Jim said.
“No! I don’t want a doctor.” Tom shouted.
But I agreed with Jim. “Tom Sawyer! You’ve got a bullet in your leg and you need to see a doctor. I’m going to find one.”
— Taken from The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
