When I was at school, I often helped my classmates. It was fun to 32 their studies. I wasn’t a top student who always got the 33 grades, but I could explain to them 34 . Now, although I’m 35 , I often volunteer on my town’s main street. Every weekend, other 36 and I make some dishes by ourselves, set up a table in the street and give the food to the homeless. However, we soon realized that food was not 37 because there were many homeless people. Most of the homeless people are lonely, 38 they have no friends or relatives. What these people also need is caring. So we always chat with them. The long day makes us tired, but it also brings us great 39 .
From my volunteering, I 40 that helping others not only makes others happy but also makes myself happy. And maybe one day, the people once you helped would help you back.

Time flies. My vacation ended in the blink(眨眼) of an eye, but one thing is still on my mind. I worked as a 41 at the Wolong China Giant Panda Garden in Sichuan. There I experienced being a panda keeper. My work included cleaning the pandas’ home, feeding pandas and making food for them. The panda I 42 was named Jingke. When I went to 43 him, he would reach one of his feet out and wait for his food. He would quickly catch it 44 I brought it to him. Can you guess what would 45 next? Jingke would lie down and begin to eat. I could hear him eating his food and see him moving his body around like a dancer. It was really 46 . In order to encourage people to read, the UNESCO set every April 23rd as World Book Day. And it was first celebrated in 1995. But do you like reading? Have you ever wondered why we should read?
In fact, it doesn’t matter whether it is a paper book or an e-book. The main thing is to get lost in reading it. But according to a survey, many of the 12 million adults in Britain have reading difficulties.

We all know that sometimes our daily life can be boring. Why not go into a new world that a good fiction book can bring to you? You can forget about problems that are stressing you out.

At 8,848.86 meters high, Qomolangma is the tallest mountain on the earth. While it is famous for its beautiful views, parts of the mountain are facing a problem: rubbish. Every year, thousands of visitors throw away tons of rubbish, such as bottles and plastic bags.
According to the UN, over 140 tons of rubbish has been left on the mountain. To reduce(减少) rubbish, China limited(限制) the number of people who would be allowed to climb up the north side of the mountain. Only 300 people would be allowed to climb it every year, and only during spring.

At the zoo, you can easily see a panda. Their black-and-white fur stands out against the green bamboo. But wait. What if a tiger can see pandas as easily as we can? Wouldn’t pandas be quickly eaten in the wild?
A new study shows pandas’ black-and-white colour helps them hide in the wild.
“If we want to understand animal colours, we need to look at where they live,” Tim Caro from University of Bristol said in a report.

According to Caro, wild pandas live in mountain forests in southwest China. There are shady(成荫的) places, as well as snowy areas. Pandas’ faces and bellies(肚子) are white to help them hide in snowy areas. Their arms and legs are black to help them hide in the shade.
Pandas eat bamboo. They can never store enough fat to get through winter. So they go out to look for food all year long. The combination(结合) of black and white can match different environments. It also breaks up the panda’s shape. This makes it even harder for other animals to see them.

① Volunteering is becoming more and more popular among people, especially the young. It is a great way to contribute to society while also developing oneself.
② Last summer, I joined in a volunteer program at an old people’s home. On the first day, when we arrived, the elderly people welcomed us warmly. We were divided into groups to do different tasks. Some of us cleaned the rooms and swept the floors. Others chatted with the old people, listening to their stories about the past. These stories were full of wisdom and life experiences. They made me understand the value of respecting the elderly and the importance of history.

④ However, volunteering is not always easy. Sometimes, we faced difficulties. For example, communicating with some elderly people who had hearing problems was a challenge. But we didn’t give up. We used gestures and wrote down words on paper to communicate with them. Through these experiences, I learned patience and how to solve problems in different situations.
⑤ Volunteering has changed me a lot. It has made me more responsible and empathetic. I realize that everyone can make a difference in the world, no matter how small the act may be. It is not only about giving but also about receiving. By helping others, we gain valuable skills and a sense of fulfillment.

Hello, everyone! I’m Li Hua. I’d like to share a wonderful experience with you.
Last Saturday, my classmates and I took part in volunteering at a nursing home. We took the bus to the place. At first, we cleaned rooms and washed clothes for the elderly. Then we cooked and had lunch with them. In the afternoon, we sang songs and had warm talks with them. The elderly were very happy. They hoped we could visit them more often. At 17:30, we said goodbye and went back home.
I had an unforgettable day. I felt good about helping others.

At the zoo , you can easily see a panda. Their black-and-white fur stands out against the green bamboo. But wait. What if a tiger can see pandas as easily as we can? Wouldn’t pandas be quickly eaten in the wild?
A new study shows pandas ’ black-and-white colour helps them hide in the wild.
“If we want to understand animal colours , we need to look at where they live ,” Tim Caro from University of Bristol said in a report.
According to Caro , wild pandas live in mountain forests in southwest China. There are shady (成荫 的 ) places , as well as snowy areas. Pandas ’ faces and bellies(肚子) are white to help them hide in snowy areas. Their arms and legs are black to help them hide in the shade.
Pandas eat bamboo. They can never store enough fat to get through winter. So they go out to look for food all year long. The combination (结合) of black and white can match different environments. It also breaks up the panda’s shape. This makes it even harder for other animals to see them.
( D )66. According to Paragraph l , what does the writer want to know?
A. What pandas ’ lives are like at the zoo.
B. Why pandas like to eat green bamboo.
C. How tigers catch and eat pandas in the wild.
D. Whether tigers can see pandas easily in the wild.
( B ) 67. According to Caro , what is important in understanding animal colours?
A. Their eating habits.
B. Their living environment.
C. The colour of their enemies.
D. The cultural meaning of their colours.
( C )68. What is Paragraph 4 mainly about?
A. How Cara studied pandas in the wild.
B. Why Caro was interested in studying pandas.
C. How pandas ’ colours help them hide in the wild.
D. Why pandas choose to live in mountain forests.

① Volunteering is becoming more and more popular among people , especially the young. It is a great way to contribute to society while also developing oneself.
② Last summer , I joined in a volunteer program at an old people’s home. On the first day , when we arrived , the elderly people welcomed us warmly. We were divided into groups to do different tasks. Some of us cleaned the rooms and swept the floors. Others chatted with the old people , listening to their stories about the past. These stories were full of wisdom and life experiences. They made me understand the value of respecting the elderly and the importance of history.
③ One of the most meaningful activities was organizing a performance for them. We prepared some simple songs and dances. The old people enjoyed every minute of it. Their bright smiles and applause made all our hard work worthwhile. It was a wonderful feeling to bring joy to others.
④ However , volunteering is not always easy. Sometimes , we faced difficulties. For example , communicating with some elderly people who had hearing problems was a challenge. But we didn’t give up. We used gestures and wrote down words on paper to communicate with them. Through these experiences , I learned patience and how to solve problems in different situations.
⑤ Volunteering has changed me a lot. It has made me more responsible and empathetic. I realize that everyone can make a difference in the world , no matter how small the act may be. It is not only about giving but also about receiving. By helping others , we gain valuable skills and a sense of fulfillment.
( B )69. What does the underlined word “They” in the second paragraph refer to?
A. The tasks. B. The stories.

A. Volunteering is only popular among young people.
B. The writer organized a performance alone for the elderly.
C. The writer gave up when facing communication difficulties.
D. Volunteering can bring valuable skills and a sense of fulfillment.
( D )71. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. The difficulties of volunteering.
