Some people who have achieved success or accomplishments are among the people who have claimed to be perfectionists. To grasp the risks of perfectionism,it’s important to understand what it means. Is it striving for excellence,or something more problematic
以读促写
Perfectionism is often associated with high achievers, yet it can lead to serious mental health challenges and block personal growth.Perfectionists set unrealistically high goals and become consumed by the need to achieve them, which can result in self-criticism and an inability to appreciate the broader possibilities in life.Even when successful, perfectionists find little satisfaction,as their achievements rarely meet their impossible standards.
In contrast, excellencism embodies a healthier pursuit of achievements. It is characterised by the pursuit of high, yet attainable standards, approached with determination and flexibility.Unlike perfectionists, who view excellence as merely a stepping stone towards an unattainable ideal, those who espouse excellencism see it as their ultimate objective.Research has clarified that excellencism links positively with academic success, enhances life satisfaction, and reduces levels of depression, while perfectionism often leads to lower achievement and increases self-doubt.
Furthermore, perfectionism can hold back creativity and innovation. Perfectionist writers may worry endlessly about perfecting the opening line of a story, struck by the fear of imperfection, leading them to shy away from sharing their work for fear of criticism.Such avoidance limits their growth and the opportunity for unique contributions. In contrast,a writer embodying excellencism would prioritise completing the story, allowing for a more creative process. Those who aim for excellence view constructive feedback as a vital tool for improvement and are better equipped to embrace criticism without taking it personally. This mindset will empower individuals to confront fears and unlock their potential.
The choice between perfectionism and excellencism can have a profound impact on your personal and professional life. While perfectionism may promise flawless outcomes,it often leads to self-doubt and unfulfilled potential. Excellencism,on the other hand, encourages growth and creativity.Recognising that mistakes are part of the journey, pursuing personal excellence offers a healthier, more fulfilling approach to success and life overall.

Empathy(同理心) is one of those strange qualities—something almost everyone wants, but few know how to truly give or receive it.In a world where self-satisfaction is emphasised,it is in short supply but high demand. This is all the more reason to teach the next generation what it means to have empathy for those around them.
What Is Empathy —Many people confuse sympathy and empathy, but they are two distinct values.Empathy is not just the ability to understand someone’s feelings;criminals often take advantage of people by appearing to understand their feelings and subsequently gaining their trust.Empathy is more than that. Not only is it the ability to recognise how someone feels, but it also values and respects the feelings of another person. It means treating others with kindness, dignity, and understanding.
Kids Need To See Adults Show Empathy—While some children are gifted with naturally kind hearts,in most cases kids need to see empathy modeled by the adults around them.It begins with the way parents relate to their children.Parents who show an interest in the things that matter to their kids and respond to emotions in a positive and caring way are teaching the skill of empathy.
Meet Emotional Needs—When children have their emotional needs met,two things happen. They learn how to meet the emotional needs of others and they are anchored in what they are receiving, meaning that they are secure enough to give to others when the need arises but first they need to receive. An empty jug cannot fill a cup.
It’s a good idea to talk to kids about emotions and how other people experience them.Give their emotions names(for example, jealousy, anger, and love) and teach them that these are normal.Talk to them about how to handle emotions in a positive way and point out situations where other people are experiencing emotions.Teach them about respecting the emotions of others and show them how to act in a situation where a response is required.

Ⅱ.七选五
(2025·湖北黄冈高三一模)
Mental resilience (韧性) has become a vital skill in today’s fast-paced world.1. Research indicates that individuals with high resilience levels are 35% more likely to maintain mental health during long-term stress.Let’s explore scientifically proven methods to strengthen this ability.
G
The Main Idea Explained
Resilience is not about reducing stress but managing it effectively.
Emerging neurobiological evidence sheds light on this positively adaptive process.2. Neuroscientists (神经学家) compare it to muscle training: facing proper challenges regularly improves mental ability to adjust. For instance,a 2023 Harvard study showed that proper stress increased brain thickness in areas related to making decisions.
F
Physical Activity as a Foundation
Exercise is universally recognised as a key resilience-building tool. During aerobic workouts, the body produces BDNF (脑源性神经营养因子),a protein important for brain development.3. Meanwhile, this chemical process not only improves mood but also strengthens mental abilities. To maximise benefits, experts suggest combining 30 minutes of daily exercise with relaxation methods such as deep breathing.
D
The Power of Social Bonds
Human beings succeed through meaningful connections.Strong social networks act as psychological safety nets during crises.4. A Stanford University study over many years found that people with strong social support recovered 50% faster from emotional difficulties than those who were isolated.Surprisingly, online communication through video calls was 80% as effective as face-to-face meetings in recent tests.
A
Methods to Change Negative Thoughts
How we view difficulties shapes our mental resilience.Psychologists suggest changing extreme negative ideas like “I can’t handle this.” into positive views such as “This is hard but possible.”A 2022 study found that daily gratitude practice lowers stress hormones by 25% in three weeks.
5.
E
A.Therefore, building strong connections should be a key goal.
B.Creative activities like painting unexpectedly improve stress tolerance.
C.Workplace culture significantly impacts employees’ stress management.
D.This natural process helps maintain stable emotions and enhances clear thinking.
E.Moreover, actively noticing small daily successes helps develop positive thinking.
F.This psychological training strengthens the brain’s ability to handle future challenges.
G.It refers to the ability to recover from difficulties while keeping basic operations running.

Ⅰ.阅读理解
I joined the coast guard because I wanted to help people.Hovercraft (气垫船) are rare and special. They’ve been discontinued in most commercial operations, because they are so expensive to make, but when it comes to search and rescue, they’re regarded as something priceless.
以读促写
From far away,a hovercraft looks like a normal boat. But if you look under its skirt, the craft is not touching the water—it floats on a cushion of air. That cushion allows us to travel over everything from water to muddy land—and even break through ice.We do all of that as a 70-tonne machine, going a maximum of nearly 120 kilometres per hour. These features allow us to rescue a large number of people quickly to get onto land, and get someone into an ambulance far easier than with any other device I can think of.
The advantages of hovercraft can also make them difficult to handle. We’ve got a massive vehicle moving fast, sometimes in a thick fog banking a narrow river.During assignments on other coast guard ships,I have 20 minutes to make alterations to avoid a crash. In a hovercraft,I have 10 seconds. You have to have enough situational awareness to make the right decision every time.
People call us for all sorts of problems:missing divers,on-board fires,or even when they’ve run out of fuel or had a mechanical breakdown.A container ship could burst into flames. We have a strong network here at the base to help everyone through difficult situations like that.Thankfully,we have captains who train us in a safe environment, but we don’t ever get fully comfortable.Anything can throw the hovercraft off—maybe your lift settings are off a little,or the wind blows with a bit of extra weight. After several years operating a hovercraft,I’m still learning.Every one of the captains here agrees:you can drive this thing for 20 years and still be surprised.

Chengdu architect Liu Jiakun was awarded the 2025 Pritzker Architecture Prize on March 4,becoming the second winner from China to receive the highest honour in the field of architecture.
题组训练
Liu’s projects include local elements and rely on “low-tech” simplicity to achieve beauty, the media reported.“He has developed a strategy that never relies on a fixed method but rather on evaluating the specific characteristics and requirements of each project differently,” the jury (评审团) said when announcing the award.
One of Liu’s best-known projects was the “rebirth bricks” he created after Wenchuan Earthquake. To aid in reconstruction,Liu made bricks using local wheat fiber, cement and rubble from collapsed buildings.More than just recycling, these bricks were “a poetic metaphor” for the rebirth of the material and “the spiritual rebirth of the community at a time of national mourning”,reported the media.
Liu’s design also focuses on ordinary people, which is reflected in his largest project,West Village,an urban complex in Chengdu. It includes a soccer field,a market, and pathways for cyclists and pedestrians. With grass growing through holes in the bricks, the project celebrates “the vitality of ‘everydayness’”,wrote critic Austin Williams. It has become a popular destination for city residents to spend their leisure time.
“The purpose of architecture is to create a beautiful, just and dignified
(有尊严的) living environment.People’s real lives, happiness and dignity are what we strive for,” Liu told the media.

The Wright brothers’ mother,Susan Catherine Koerner Wright, was an aggressive woman who attended Hartsville College,a rarity in those times. She had grown up on a farm and was very handy with tools. It is said that she could fix practically anything, and she was the one to solve the boys’ early engineering problems.Their father,Milton Wright, worked long hours on the farm and studied without interruption.
The Wright children were expected to work hard. When they were young boys, their father Milton brought home a flying toy: a propeller (螺旋桨) made of bamboo and powered by a rubber band.Fascinated by it,the boys began experimenting immediately.Their great curiosity was restrained only by their lack of mechanical know-how.
As the boys grew, all mechanical things fascinated them. They were especially interested in bicycles and printing presses.Unfortunately,Susan died in 1889.Later,when the family struggled financially, the brothers put their hands and minds to work. They published a weekly newspaper and opened a company, selling and repairing bicycles.
The business was successful enough to fund their flying experiments. It’s easy to imagine the brothers working long hours on bicycles during the day and assembling propellers, gears and motors in the back workshop in their spare time. They spent hours on the beach watching birds glide (滑翔).They made sketches and became obsessed with the details of materials, dimensions, rotor spin and weight.Their work continued for more than a decade until they finally achieved their dream: an airplane.
When it came time to test their first full-scale model in 1903,their father was filled with doubts. He couldn’t bear the thought of losing his sons,so he made them promise never to fly together — that is,if their experiment ever succeeded.

Zhou was travelling during the Spring Festival in Uganda, attempting to capture precious images of mountain gorillas through her lens (镜头).
“I enjoy exploring animal communities and have tried to tell their tales. If these stories can move the audience and touch their hearts, they will come to love animals. This love will correspondingly inspire them to protect nature,” Zhou says. Zhou’s photography work stood out from the more than 37,600 nature-themed image and video submissions from across the world.
题组训练
Zhou started reflecting on the meaning of life when she was confined to bed for six months following a car crash in 2013.She realised she had been struggling to be a straight-A student to please her parents.“I was too busy to try to figure out what I wanted,” she says.
With her MBA background, Zhou says it’s key to pick up a wealth of knowledge about animals before getting into the field.“Nature photographers often use extremely long lenses, which are very heavy, and hiking in the wilderness requires a lot of physical strength,” Zhou says.Endurance is also key—being able to handle hunger, dirt and sometimes thirst.
The years Zhou has spent capturing nature and wildlife have not only produced tens of thousands of valuable images but also helped her form a deep bond with the animals, motivating her to call for their protection.
In 2019, she worked with ornithologist (鸟类学家) Lin from Xiamen University to set up Seeking Wild, a nonprofit organisation committed to raising public awareness of wildlife conservation through field research, rescue efforts, and ecological photography.Additionally, Zhou held a personal photography exhibition, with all proceeds going to nature conservation efforts.
“The images are more a source of materials for wildlife conservation, as what the eye sees is the most direct and visually impactful,” Zhou explains the establishment of Seeking Wild.“However, when it comes to follow-up actions, I believe it requires the involvement of organisations that can institute practical measures.”

Wildlife photographer Ingo Arndt discovered his first enormous ant mound (蚁丘) as a child exploring the forest with his father near their home almost 50 years ago. They were bird-watching and came around a bend in a thickly wooded area when there it was: a five-foot-tall mound, standing like a large stalagmite (石笋).Arndt wanted to investigate more closely, but a very particular smell suggested he rethink that. The air felt thick and sharp, which discomforted his nose.“All my life,” he says, “I could remember the smell.”
Several years later, Arndt moved to the countryside. He continued his fascination with the mounds and their armies of tiny engineers.Outfitted with a high-resolution camera, he began photographing the mounds and sharing his imagery with researchers for a scientific perspective. It turned out the mound makers were indeed special. They were red wood ants — one of the smallest of all so-called keystone species.Keystone species such as elephants and sharks are watched closely because their behaviours affect so many aspects of the ecosystem that if they disappeared,it would struggle to adapt.Researchers also explained the smell from the mound. As the insects build a nest, they generate formic acid (蚁酸), the origin of the smell, which helps to fight against enemies.
But in recent decades, the population of ants has been declining as the forests have fallen victim to logging, urbanisation, and wildfires, as well as drought and higher temperatures that have become more frequent with climate change. This has led several countries across the ants’ range, including Germany, to enlist them as a protected species by law.
Today Arndt’s photos show that as social insects, these small ants not only form complex societies, but they also cohabit with a wide variety of species, creating a complex web of coexisting relationships across a variety of plant and animal species. They are also a reminder that by protecting these unnoticed creatures, we are actually protecting ourselves.

(2025·江苏常州模拟)
Artificial intelligence (AI) has become a fashion word in recent years, and its impact on society is growing rapidly.AI refers to the development of computer systems that can perform tasks that would typically require human intelligence, such as learning,problem-solving,and decision-making.This technology is transforming every industry, from healthcare to finance, and is expected to revolutionise the future.
题组训练
One area where AI is making significant strides is healthcare.AI-powered tools can analyse vast amounts of media data and help doctors make more informed diagnoses and treatment decisions. This technology is particularly useful in fields such as radiology where AI algorithms can analyse medical images to detect abnormalities that may be missed by human eyes.
In finance,AI is being used to analyse vast amounts of data to identify patterns and predict market trends. This technology can help traders make more informed decisions and reduce the risks of financial losses.Similarly AI-powered chatbots are being used in customer service, helping to improve response time and provide personalised support.
As the use of AI grows, concerns about job displacement have also arisen. Some fear that AI-powered machines and robots will replace human workers, leading to mass unemployment. While this is a possibility,it is also important to note that AI will create new jobs in fields such as data analysis, software development, and robotics.
Another major concern about AI is the potential for bias and discrimination.AI algorithms are only as good as the data they are trained on,and if that data contains bias, the algorithms will also be biased. This issue is particularly concerning in fields such as criminal justice, where AI-powered systems are being used to make decisions about sentencing. If these algorithms are biased, they could make existing inequalities continue in the criminal justice system.
Despite these concerns, the benefits of AI are numerous and undeniable. However,to ensure that these benefits are accessible to all and to address concerns about bias and discrimination,it is crucial to continue researching and developing moral AI.

Researchers at Rutgers University-New Brunswick have developed an AI tool that will help predict the habitats of endangered whales, guiding ships along the Atlantic coast to avoid them. The tool is designed to prevent deadly accidents and inform conservation strategies and responsible ocean development.
The AI programme analyses patterns from two large databases, improving the ability to monitor the distribution of endangered marine (海洋的) species like the North Atlantic right whale. The marine sciences professors,Ahmed Ezzat and Josh Kohut, likened the output to what might be learnt by tracking people’s movements in a house and determining whether there is food in the kitchen.Such factors might evaluate why people are where they are at certain times of the day.Detecting certain patterns conveys predictive power.“With this programme,we’re correlating the position of a whale in the ocean with environmental conditions,” Kohut said.“This allows us to predict whale locations with a higher probability, enabling us to carry out effective protection strategies.”
Unlike typical computer programmes, where instructions are written out, this new machine learning programme analysed large data sets to discover patterns and relationships. As the AI programme encountered more data,it adjusted its internal model to make better predictions or classifications.“The outcome of the machine-learning model is a prediction of where you may encounter a marine mammal (哺乳动物),” Ezzat said, describing what he characterised as a “probability map”.
Initially, the researchers sought to develop high-resolution models of the North Atlantic right whale presence to support responsible offshore wind farm development and operation. However,Ezzat noted that these tools could benefit various industries in the blue economy, such as fishing and shipping.“This approach can support a wise and environmentally responsible use of these waters,”Ezzat said.
“For decades,we’ve had whale location data and environmental records, but AI finally connects them,” Kohut emphasised.“This demonstrates the power of employing AI methodologies to advance our ability to predict or estimate where these whales are.We can achieve our economic goals while minimising harm to the environment.” This innovation safeguards whales and advances responsible ocean development—a critical step as climate pressures intensify.

As a doctor in a hospital,my aid to a village is firm and unshakable.I am a regular visitor, not just as a medical volunteer but as a friend,a part of their extended family. The aid has been a test, and in overcoming it,we have all discovered a deeper sense of unity and purpose. The aid also has built a bond between us,one that will continue to grow stronger with each visit.
On a summer afternoon, the heat was almost unbearable, the air thick with the promise of a coming storm. As a volunteer in the village medical aid activity,I was aware of the urgency of our mission. The village was accessible only by a narrow road, and we had to complete the medical consultations before the sun dipped below the horizon.
Shortly after I treated the last patient,I received an urgent message that made me nervous.A villager had been stung by an unknown insect and was experiencing a severe allergic (过敏的) reaction.Time was of the essence; it could be fatal if not treated timely.
I swiftly coordinated a response team, which included a local guide familiar with the shortcuts through the dense forest that separated us from the nearest hospital. We gently moved the stricken villager onto a stretcher
(担架),and with the leading of the villager’s family,we began the race against time.
The journey was filled with challenges. The forest was a labyrinth (迷宫) of shadows and whispers, the damp and dangerous bushes. As it was night, our progress was slowed by the need to navigate by the dim light of our flashlights. The villager’s breathing became difficult, and his pain was clear.
In the distance, the faint but growing sound of a helicopter cut through the evening silence—a rescue team was on its way. However, the trees were too dense for a safe landing. We needed to act fast, but the helicopter didn’t find us for a long time.Suddenly,an idea occurred to me while we nearly had a sense of desperation.

Walking home from school, I am enjoying my day. Each day I stop to hear music coming from the ivy (常春藤). The sparrow (麻雀) song is a loud and glorious sound. The ivy is pulsing below a leafless tree, decorating around the lower trunk like a celebration. There are nervous flittings, in and out, and sparrows are pecking at the branches. This ivy is a home for them, harbouring an entire flock. But this scene is no longer ubiquitous. Numbers have declined by almost 70% in the UK since 1970. Sparrows make their homes near human places and finding a tree like this is a blessing. Happily, the ivy is still full of chatter and twitter.
题组训练
In Greek mythology, sparrows are sacred and often associated with the goddess Aphrodite, symbolising true love and spiritual connection. I wonder how many people look at sparrows and feel that depth of connection. All birds live brightly in our imagination, connecting us to the natural world, opening up all kinds of creativity.
As I stand there with a flock of sparrows in conversation among themselves, there is a spark. Noticing nature is the start of everything. We should slow down to listen and to watch.
We should take the time to observe nature. And we should immerse ourselves in its patterns, structures, happenings and rhythms. It is how mathematicians and scientists are nurtured. Alan Turing studied the patterns in nature: the arrangement of petals on the flower, spots on a leopard and stripes on a zebra. He was looking for a mathematical formula
(公式) for the development of cells in living things. Nature sparks creativity. All we have to do is start with the question: Why My mind whirrs and whirls in nature. This mental process even happens when I am “daydreaming”. This way of thinking is far more productive than the work I do in school.
I consolidate myself by thinking and thinking while intensely watching the movements of sparrows. Who knows where watching sparrows will lead

Sublingual delivery means delivering medicine under the tongue. This area is not a very common place to deliver drugs, but it is very effective for the drugs to be absorbed quickly into the body.
A Swiss biotech company has developed sublingual delivery of peptides (肽) and proteins. It has opened the door to non-invasive delivery of many biological drugs that have so far only been taken through injections.
The primary challenge in developing the technique was stabilising the proteins. The biotech company turned to nature to find a solution. The seeds of plants contain a high concentration of proteins, which have to survive and remain complete for years, sometimes in extreme conditions of temperature, moisture, or drought. By mimicking these mechanisms, the biotech company has been able to come up with a way to preserve and stabilise proteins for a very long time at room temperature through advanced bioengineering.
And because of this, sublingual drugs are more adaptable than injection solutions that must usually be refrigerated. In itself, this opens up the possibility for social innovation as well as biological innovation.
Due to the strong stability of the company’s technology, sublingual drugs are very well suited for use in some less developed countries. Biological drugs usually have to be cooled all the way from manufacturing right up to when they reach the patient, and then injected. In many less developed countries, however, effective logistical cold chains are non-existent or not very good. With the biotech company’s sublingual technology, however, the cold chain can be minimised or not needed at all.
In addition, because the drugs can be given orally instead of by injection, complications (并发症) due to infected needles are also prevented. What’s more, although the technology is hi-tech, from a manufacturing perspective it is relatively low-cost. So, the combination of these factors makes it an excellent technology for use in some less developed countries.

The ability to detect a nearby presence without seeing or touching it may sound fantastical — but it’s a real ability that some creatures have. A family of African fish known as Momyrids are weakly electric, and have special organs that can locate a nearby target, even when it’s hiding in the mud. Scientists have now developed an artificial sensor system modeled on the ability of these fish.
“We developed a new strategy for 3D motion positioning by electronic skin, bio-inspired by ‘electric fish’,” says Dr. Xinge Yu, an associate professor. The team described their e-skin sensor in a paper.
The artificial sensor is multi-layered. One layer acts as a transmitter, which will generate an electric field once activated, and another layer acts as a receiver to detect both the direction of and the distance to an object. A separate controller creates the driving signal to activate the transmitter. When an object comes within range, the electric field around the sensor is disturbed, which in turn can be detected by the receiver. This data is then processed by a micro controller unit, which computes the position of the target object and sends that information to a smartphone or other devices.
A special biogel (生物凝胶) is used in the sensor, which has the ability to transmit and receive electric signals from a pattern of micro channels on the surface. The end result is a sensor that is thin, soft and flexible, making it easy to adapt to irregular surfaces, such as the human body. In contrast to the traditional sensor system that needs a large number of sensors to achieve spatial positioning, the new system can locate an object precisely in 3D space using just a few sensors. This significantly reduces the power consumption of data collection, transmission, and processing.
The researchers hope that this sensor could one day open up a new range of wearable technologies, including sensors for human-machine interaction and thin, flexible e-skin.
