Dear students,
I’m glad to be here to give a lecture. The topic for today is about a meaningful experience.
Last weekend, I took part in a community volunteer program, and I had a really amazing time. We focused on spreading traditional Chinese culture through Chinese cartoons and animations. I was in charge of showing some classic ones and introducing their backgrounds.
Many people in the community were interested. They were amazed by the wonderful stories and beautiful pictures in these cartoons. I felt proud to let more people know about our great culture. During the program, we also organized some activities to raise money. All the money we raised was used to help those in need.
The experience made me realize that even a small effort can make a big difference. I hope more of us can join in such activities in the future and make our community a better place.
That’s all! Thank you.

三、 阅读理解。(共10小题;每小题2分,满分20分)

Last December, when An Lingfei, a doctor from an Inner Mongolia
medical team, arrived in Kigali, the capital city of Rwanda(卢旺达),
he set up a centre in the Masaka District Hospital. Since then, the China-
Rwanda Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Diagnosis and Treatment
Centre has gained in popularity.

According to An, the centre now receives an average of more than 30
people daily, with most of them suffering from lower back pain or knee and
ankle joint(踝关节) pain. Rwanda is known as the land of a thousand
hills. Locals often have to walk on mountain roads year-round, which can
lead to joint stress.
“TCM has great advantages in treating these diseases, and the effects
are very good,” An said. “The centre now provides most kinds of TCM
treatments, allowing local people to experience Eastern medicine.”

Naomin, a 60-year-old patient, is amazed by TCM. She was unable
to walk due to serious pain in both knees and ankles. But after a month of
treatment at the centre, she is now able to walk around with a walking
stick. “The treatment has been a huge help,” she said.
Another patient, Mukagatare, said that his back pain disappeared
after three TCM treatments. According to him, doctors at the local hospitals
had been unable to make a clear diagnosis after many examinations, let
alone reduce the pain.

Besides treating patients, the centre also educates locals about TCM
and Chinese culture.
Up to now, TCM has spread to nearly 200 countries and areas, with
its worldwide influence continuously growing. “From treating a common
cold to treating chronic(慢性的) and difficult diseases, TCM can all play
an important role,” a Chinese expert said.

Treatment Centre?

treatment?

B ★★★
When you want to raise money for others, one best way is to try to
write a donation letter. A donation letter is what you write to a person you
expect, who will donate some of his money to support your good cause(事
业). Though the cause may be good, it is usually hard to make a person
willing to donate some of his hard-earned money. It takes some really great
writing skills to write such a letter.

The donation letter for charity isn’t exactly a formal letter for business
communication. You need to take a casual(非正式的) tone(语气).
Make sure that you know the name of the recipient(接受者) to sound
more like a friendly gesture. Also, the language should not be quite serious
and should be slightly informal, which can make your recipient willing to
believe you.

Make sure that you include all the details about your programme, your
funds required, and your plan in the letter. The most important thing is to
mention how someone gets to benefit because of the recipient’s contribution.
Talk about how many lives your charity fund has been able to change and
how many more you wish to change further. This may touch the reader and
lead him to make a donation towards your cause. Include the amount which
you expect the recipient to donate, within your letter.

A typical donation letter is often divided into four paragraphs. The first
paragraph will be an introduction to your organization, like what you do,
how long you have been running your cause, and your achievements. The
second paragraph will give more details about your current(现在的) goals
that you’re trying to reach. In the third paragraph you use a more direct
method, asking politely for any help. Keep it short and clear. The final
paragraph is your conclusion, where you tell exactly how the help received
would be put into good use. Add a “thank you” for any and all help
received.

( D )6. The person who writes a donation letter wants to .
A. raise money for himself
B. raise money for the recipient
C. donate his own money
D. ask the recipient to donate his money
D

( A )7. How should the language used in a donation letter be?
A. Relaxing and persuasive(有说服力的).
B. Happy and friendly.
C. Formal and honest.
D. Short and clear.
A

( D )8. What is the key to encouraging a donation?
A. Asking about the recipient’s plan.
B. Including all the details of people in need.
C. Telling directly the amount of money you expect.
D. Showing the value and importance of one’s donation.
D

( B )9. What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A. The skills used for writing business letters.
B. The general content of a donation letter.
C. The common problems in a donation letter.
D. The tips on making a donation.
B

( A )10. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. How to write a donation letter.
B. How to raise money for others.
C. How to donate your money.
D. How to make a person donate money.
A

Dear students,
I’m glad to be here to give a lecture. The topic for today is about a
meaningful experience.

Last weekend, I took part in a community volunteer program,
and I had a really amazing time. We focused on spreading traditional
Chinese culture through Chinese cartoons and animations. I was in
charge of showing some classic ones and introducing their
backgrounds.

  That’s all! Thank you.
Many people in the community were interested. They were amazed by
the wonderful stories and beautiful pictures in these cartoons. I felt
proud to let more people know about our great culture. During the
program, we also organized some activities to raise money. All the
money we raised was used to help those in need.
The experience made me realize that even a small effort can make a big
difference. I hope more of us can join in such activities in the future and
make our community a better place.
