Chinese Chess, also called Xiangqi, is one of the most popular board games in China. With a history of over 2000 years, it is still enjoyed by millions of people today, from young children to the elderly.
The game is played on a rectangular(矩形的) board marked with 32 pieces—16 for each player. The board has a river in the middle and two special areas called "palaces" for the kings. The goal of the game is to capture(捕获) your opponent's king, which is similar to Western chess. However, the rules and pieces are quite different.
Each piece moves in a unique way. For example, the chariot (车) can move any number of spaces straight, making it one of the most powerful pieces. The horse moves like a knight but can be blocked by other pieces standing next to it. The cannon (炮) is special—it must jump over exactly one piece to capture an enemy. Soldiers move forward one step at a time, but after crossing the river, they can also move sideways. Because of these special rules, Xiangqi is fast, exciting, and full of surprises.
You don't need much to play Xiangqi—just a board and 32 pieces. People play it everywhere: in parks, under big trees, at home with family, or online against players from around the world. In many Chinese cities, you can often see the old gathered around a chessboard, deeply focused on their next move.
Playing Xiangqi is not only fun but also good for your brain. It teaches you to think ahead, plan carefully, and stay patient. Many teachers believe that learning Xiangqi can help students improve their problem solving skills.
If you get a chance to try Chinese Chess, go for it! You might discover a new hobby that challenges your mind and connects you to Chinese culture.

The three goats were always hungry and loved to eat fresh green grass all day. However, they had eaten so much that their side of the valley had become bare (光秃的) and dry. One day, they stood looking at the green fields on the other side of the valley and decided to live there instead.
However, there was only one way to reach the other side of the valley and that was by crossing a bridge with a great big troll (巨怪) living under it! This troll was well known for being easily angered—and for trying to eat up anyone who dared to cross his bridge.
As the billy goats drew near to the bridge, brave Little Billy Goat Gruff offered to go first. Off he went, ran, trip-trap, trip-trap, over the bridge.
When he was halfway across, the troll jumped out from his hiding place. He had a huge orange nose, wild hair and big ears. He also had a scary smile. The little billy goat's knees knocked in fear as he saw the troll.
“Who's that trip-trapping over my bridge ” shouted the troll angrily.
“It's me, Little Billy Goat Gruff!” answered the little billy goat, in fear. “Please let me pass. I'm just going to the other side of the valley, so I can eat the sweet green grass.”
“No! I'm going to eat you all up!” shouted the troll.
“Oh, please don't eat me,” cried the little billy goat. “I'm so small and thin! My brother will cross the bridge soon and he's much bigger and fatter than I am!”
The troll's eyes lit up at the thought of an even bigger meal. He said, “Very well then, off you go!” and let the little billy goat trip-trap his way to the other side.

Is there a way to quickly recall information just before taking an exam Scientists from the University of Roehampton in the UK said that walking backward might be the answer. According to their study, this simple activity can help people improve their short term memory.
Researchers asked 114 volunteers to watch a video. After watching the video, the volunteers were divided into three groups. One group was told to walk 10 meters forward. The second group walked 10 meters backward. The third group stood in one place. All three groups were then asked 20 questions about what they saw in the video.
The scientists found that the backward walking group got two more answers correct on average than the other two groups.
This suggests that the link between the concepts of time and space is important in terms of how our minds form memories. "Time is really expressed through space," one of the scientists who led the study said. When you walk backward, you see things from a different angle (角度). This difference helps people recall things that happened in the past.
And walking backward is also good for the rest of our pared to walking forward, walking backward is more challenging. This can help us improve our fitness, according to New Scientist. Walking backward uses more energy in a short time and burns more calories.
In addition, walking backward is less stressful for our knees. It could be helpful for people who often have pain in their knees. It also keeps our spines (脊柱) strong, which can help to ease (缓解) pain in the lower back. This might be why many old people like walking backward.
