Hello, everyone! Welcome to the National Library of China! Before you is a set of newly reproduced edition of the Yongle Dadian, but they are not simple copies. They are produced using modern handmade Xuan paper and high-quality color printing, which carefully preserves the size, weight, and handwritten notes of the original volumes. As you turn the pages, you are not just reading history — you’re witnessing the act of preservation itself. More than 600 years ago, Emperor Yongle of the Ming Dynasty ordered the creation of the Yongle Dadian. His goal was ambitious: to collect all known knowledge of China at the time into one great work. The Yongle Dadian brought together over 7,000 ancient classics, covering history, philosophy and so on, from the pre-Qin period to the early Ming Dynasty. To help visitors understand its scale, scholars often compare the Yongle Dadian to a library of knowledge, carefully written by hand and bound into thousands of volumes. Now let’s take a closer look.
A篇
Land Judging Manual ... and hard copies can be requested from Jason Warren
根据 AWARDS 部分中的 a $500 scholarship to the highest-scoring high school senior ... registers at Oklahoma State University (OSU) and majors in Plant and Soil Sciences (PSS) 可知,奖学金获得者必须是高中毕业生,在比赛中获得最高分,且必须在俄克拉荷马州立大学注册并主修植物与土壤科学的学生。
24. B。推断。根据前三段的内容,尤其是其中一些字眼:considerately、They shake their heads、Same old question, same old response 可知,朋友们对年迈的作者成天爬楼梯表示担心。
根据最后一段中的 a few trips up and down stairs after breakfast get my blood flowing and the muscles working 可知,作者认为楼梯可以帮助她锻炼身体,保持血液循环,这表明她乐见楼梯的健身功能。
flight (para.
根据划线部分下文中的 he's running, and then he enters the house 可知,土耳其语在表达“他跑着进屋”时,需要拆成两句。fragment it up 在此处意为“拆分”,与 break it down 同义。
29. A。 However, their gestures were remarkably similar when they didn't have to speak. The language-specific differences in gestures had seemingly disappeared
Of course, this research involved researchers interpreting abstract gestures from a few hundred young children, pre-teens, and adults — hardly enough data to support such a big claim
- Introduction
- Research
- The issue with gendered technologies
- Challenges of creating genderless technologies
- Solution
32. A。 As new technologies ... a push to make them genderless、People are stereotyping their gendered objects in very traditional ways 和 Removing gender from the picture altogether seems like a simple way to fix this 可知,人们以传统方式对有性别特征的物品形成刻板印象,而解决这一问题的简单方法就是将性别元素从新技术中去除,所以让新技术无性别化的目的是减少刻板印象,故A项正确。
33. B。 Martin asked participants to rate their attachment to male, female, and genderless versions of a digital voice assistant and a self-driving car known as “Miuu.”
Martin's study also found that creating a genderless object was difficult. For instance, if an object's name was meant to sound genderless, like Miuu, participants would still assign a gender to it — they would assume Miuu was a “he” or “she.”
Martin sees a silver lining, however: She believes that anthropomorphism “provides an opportunity to change stereotypes.”
take on increasingly humanlike qualities
a push to make them genderless
form connections with objects
strengthen outdated or harmful ideas
map sth onto sth 把……

I really appreciate the practice of playing TV programs at lunch break in the canteen. In my opinion, news programs would be a good choice.
The reasons for my recommendation are as follows. To start with, news programs, covering multiple fields such as politics, technology, economy and culture, help us move beyond textbooks, expand horizons and stay informed about current affairs. Additionally, we can develop a sense of social responsibility and civic engagement, laying the foundation to become contributing members of society.
Therefore, I believe news programs provide both a relaxing and enlightening atmosphere at lunchtime. Hopefully, we can enjoy them in the canteen soon!

I lived in an old apartment complex where the walls were thin. For weeks, my new neighbor upstairs was keeping me awake every night between ten and midnight. What I heard was slow, forceful footsteps mixed with crying, as if someone were pacing with the weight of the world on shoulders. To cope with the noise, I would sink into the old rocking chair (摇椅) by the window. The rhythm somehow quieted my mind.
But tonight, the noise was just unbearable. I posted in the building’s group chat, “Can the 3C neighbor keep it down after 10 ” Almost immediately, Lena, a cashier at a local market, replied, “Same here. Haven’t slept well for weeks.” And Tom, who ran the secondhand shop on the corner, added, “Don’ they realize how loud it is ” A few others responded, but 3C never did.
I’d had enough. “That’s it,” I thought aloud, pulling on my slippers. “I’m going up there!” I stormed to the third floor, playing my angry speech in my head, “Keep it down! Some of us need to work tomorrow!” The moment the door opened, I blurted out (脱口而出),“Do you have any idea how much noise you’re making ” But the rest of my prepared speech got stuck in my throat. A young woman stood there, eyes red, swaying (摇晃) gently back and forth in a desperate attempt to comfort a crying baby. The apartment behind her was humble-no dining table, no chairs, not even a lamp, only a mattress (床垫) and a few empty baby food packets on the floor.
“I’m so sorry, Madam,” she whispered, managing a weak smile, “I’m just trying to get her to sleep.” That was when my anger disappeared. A familiar rhythm surfaced in my mind as I saw her sway the baby tiredly. “I have a chair downstairs that might calm your baby,” I smiled softly. She looked up, eyes widening in disbelief.
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
“Let me fetch it for you,” I said and rushed downstairs.

The neighbors responded to my post and agreed to gather at 3C instantly.

“Let me fetch it for you,” I said and rushed downstairs. I dragged out the rocking chair, wrestled it upstairs and set it down beside her. “It might work,” I encouraged her to try it. She sank into it, cradling her baby, and just like that, the crying softened into quiet breaths. Eyes glistening with tears of gratitude, she whispered, “Thank you.” I waved back, closing the door behind me. Returning home, I posted a message in the group chat, explaining the young mother’s difficult situation and calling on everyone to offer her simple, respectful support.
The neighbors responded to my post and agreed to gather at 3C instantly. Lena arrived with some baby food and Tom followed with two chairs, telling us he’d bring a bed frame the next day. Warm blankets, a small lamp, and toys neatly piled up at her door. Enveloped in warmth, the new mum choked up, “Thank you all! Your support means the world to me.” We smiled at each other, knowing we’d given a helping hand. I realized the “noise” we had complained about was actually a cry for help, and our kindness had turned conflict into care.

“Are you still climbing all those stairs ” The question comes after friends say, “You’re looking good,” considerately not adding, “for your age.”
“Yup. Still tapping (轻敲) up and down.” I do a little soft shoe dancing for emphasis. “Just like Shirley Temple and Bill Whatzisname in that musical years ago.”
They shake their heads. Same old question, same old response. They’ve been joking with us about our hardwood stairs ever since we bought this old farmhouse 50 years ago.
There were three flights, one from the main floor bending to the second, a narrow flight to the third-floor rooms, and narrow stairs down to the basement. The stairs didn’t seem a problem when we moved in. We were younger, livelier and ran up and down many times a day without concern. Though as we grew older, carrying a load of freshly washed clothes from the basement to the third floor could be tiring and we’d have to pause (停顿) to catch our breath on the landings.
Our daughter brought a friend over to meet the “old folks at home” and on his very first visit he looked up at the stairs and said, “These could be dangerous. Have you ever thought about putting rubber treads (踏面) on them ” We did so at the request of my daughter, but we removed them later because they were dust collectors.
Our son, home from the West Coast for a visit but really to check on his aging parents, suggested, “You might investigate one of those lifts where you sit down, press a button and rise up.”
“What happens if there’s a power failure ” we protested. “And our legs have weakened because of no exercise.”
Some people run, some drive to the gym, and others wear watches to count their steps. But a few trips up and down stairs after breakfast get my blood flowing and the muscles working and I’m set for the day. Occasionally my back aches and I’m reduced to a snail’s pace. But speed is no longer a priority.
24. What does the author intend to do by responding to her friends in that manner
A. Show her gratitude for their concern.
B. Defend her daily habit of using stairs.
C. Stop them from asking the same question.
D. Hide her embarrassment about the broken stairs.
25. What troubles the author’s children most about the stairs
A. Their safety. B. Their appearance.
C. Their maintenance. D. Their effectiveness.
26. How do the stairs benefit the author
A. They provide a sense of belonging. B. They serve as a reminder of her past.
C. They help her stay active and mobile. D. They offer beautiful surrounding views.
27. What sort of person is the author
A. Athletic and determined. B. Sensitive and traditional.
C. Practical and economical. D. Optimistic and independent.

Seyda z ah kan, a psychological scientist at Georgia State University (GSU), and her team wanted to understand how language affects the way people think. She says we can see that when people speak and communicate ideas with gestures. GSU defines gestures as wordless signals, including body language, posture (姿势), eye contact, and facial expressions. z ah kan believes these body movements could help us understand how kids form and express ideas.
She and her team conducted a study where 100 children described same actions with words and hand movements. Then, they described the same actions without speaking, using only their hands. The latter is also known as silent gestures. Half the children were native English speakers, and the other 50 spoke Turkish. The researchers say English and Turkish are great for comparison because they differ in how speakers describe events.
“If you’re speaking Turkish, if you want to describe someone running into a house, you have to ‘fragment it up,’” explains z ah kan. “But if it’s in English, they’ll just say ‘he ran into the house,’ all in one simpler sentence. As such, it is easier to express both running (manner of motion) and entering (path of motion) together in a single expression in English than in Turkish.”
They found that when children spoke and gestured simultaneously (同时), their gestures followed the rules of their language. However, their gestures were remarkably similar when they didn’t have to speak. The language-specific differences in gestures had seemingly disappeared.
z ah kan and her team also found similarly in earlier work with adults: blind English and Turkish speakers organized their gestures the same way as sighted speakers did when they were kept from speaking.
The researchers suggest their findings indicate the possibility that we all share some non-verbal (非言语的) communication system that gets overridden or changed once we start learning language. Of course, this research involved researchers interpreting abstract gestures from a few hundred young children, pre-teens, and adults — hardly enough data to support such a big claim, but certainly an interesting idea to explore.
28. What does the underlined part “fragment it up” in paragraph 3 mean
A. Shout it out. B. Break it down.
C. Plan it out. D. Put it down.
29. What did the researchers find about silent gestures
A. They were uninfluenced by language.
B. They relied heavily on facial expressions.
C. They differed greatly from person to person.
D. They were more expressive than spoken language.
30. What is the main limitation of the study
A. It only focused on children. B. The database was too dated.
C. The sample size was too small. D. It only investigated two languages.
31. Which of the following is the best title for the text
A. Our Native Tongue Hardly Affects Our Thoughts
B. Gestures Vary Greatly Across Different Languages
C. Blind People Use Different Gestures from Sighted People
D. Humans May Have a Universal Non-Verbal Communication System
D
As new technologies take on increasingly humanlike qualities, there’s been a push to make them genderless. “People are stereotyping (形成刻板印象) their gendered objects in very traditional ways,” says Ashley Martin, a Stanford associate professor of organizational behavior. Removing gender from the picture altogether seems like a simple way to fix this. Yet as Martin has found in her work, gender is one of the fundamental ways people form connections with objects, particularly those designed with human characteristics.
In her study, Martin asked participants to rate their attachment to male, female, and genderless versions of a digital voice assistant and a self-driving car known as “Miuu.” It was found that gender increased users’ feelings of attachment to these devices and their interest in purchasing them. For example, participants said they would be less likely to buy a genderless voice assistant than versions with male or female voices.
While gendering a product may be good marketing, it may also strengthen harmful ideas about power and identity. The stereotypes commonly associated with men, such as competitiveness and dominance, are more valued than those associated with women. These qualities, in turn, are mapped onto products that have been assigned a gender.
Martin’s study also found that creating a genderless object was difficult. For instance, if an object’s name still meant to sound genderless, like Miuu, participants would still assign a gender to it — they would assume Miuu was a “he” or “she.”
Martin sees a silver lining, however. She believes that anthropomorphism (拟人化) “provides an opportunity to change stereotypes.” When women are put into positions of leadership like running companies, it reduces negative stereotypes about women. Similarly, anthropomorphized products could be created to take on stereotype-inconsistent roles — a male robot that assists with nursing or a female robot that helps do calculations, for instance.
32. What is the purpose of making new technologies genderless
A. To reduce stereotypes. B. To meet public demand.
C. To cut production costs. D. To encourage competition.
33. What were the participants probably asked to do in the study
A. Design new products. B. Respond to a survey.
C. Work as assistants. D. Take a language test.
34. Why is it difficult to create genderless objects
A. They cannot be mass-produced. B. Naming them is a challenging task.
C. People assume they are unreliable. D. Gender is rooted in people’s mind.
35. What does the last paragraph mainly talk about
A. The quality of genderless products. B. The upside of gendering a product.
C. The meaning of anthropomorphism. D.The stereotypes of men and women.
