Q1-The largest shark in the deep sea is the whale shark (Rhincodon typus鲸鲨). It is not only the biggest shark, but also the largest living fish on earth. Adult whale sharks usually grow to 9-12 metres long, and the largest individual can reach over 20 meters. They are filter feeders((滤食动物) that eat plankton(浮游生物) and small fish, and they are gentle to humans.
Q2-The deep-sea floor is a mysterious and diverse landscape. It has flat abysmal(深不可测的) plains (the flattest places on Earth, covered with thick sediment(沉淀物)), deep trenches(壕沟) (like the Mariana Trench, the deepest place on Earth), mid-ocean ridges(成脊状) (underwater mountain ranges), hydrothermal vents(海底热泉), and seamounts(海山). It is completely dark, with extremely high water pressure and low temperature.
Q3-Besides China's Fendouzhe, there are many other deep-sea vessels:
Trieste (US): The first manned submersible(载人潜水艇) to reach the Mariana Trench in 1960,
Alvin (US): A famous manned submersible that has completed over 5,000 dives.
Deepest Challenger (Australia): The submersible used by James Cameron to dive to the Mariana Trench.
Limiting Factor (US): The first submersible to visit the deepest point of all 5 oceans.
Shinkai 6500 (Japan): A Japanese manned submersible with a maximum depth of 6,500 meters.
Q4-The deep sea is extremely important to humans for many reasons:
1.Resource Treasure: It is rich in oil, natural gas, mineral resources (like manganese nodules锰结核, cobalt crusts) and rare biological resources, which are critical for human development.
2.Climate Regulation: The deep ocean stores huge amounts of carbon and heat, regulating the Earth's climate.
3.Scientific Research: It helps us study the origin of life, plate tectonics(地质构造), and extreme environment biology.
4.Strategic Value: It is an important frontier for national ocean security and technological competition.
5.Ecological Balance: It is home to unique deep-sea ecosystems that maintain the global marine balance.
