For his 80th birthday, my grandfather, a man who had fixed everything with his large hands, received a
tablet from my cousin. We gathered around, expecting him to be pleased. Instead, he held the device as if it
were a foreign object, his thumb hovering awkwardly over the screen. He gave a polite smile that didn't reac
h his eyes, and then set it aside.
Later that day, I found him in his workshop —— his true kingdom, filled with the smell of wood and oil.
The tablet was lying untouched on a shelf, gathering dust next to jars of nails.“It's too... clean,” he explained
to me.“There's no weight to it, no resistance. How can you truly fix something you can't feel ”
Then, one Saturday morning, he announced he was clearing out the garage. But what emerged from t
he garage was not bags of trash, but a parade of neighborhood kids, each carrying a bicycle with a problem:
a loose chain, a wobbling wheel, a stubborn brake.
Grandpa had placed a small sign at the end of the driveway:“Doc’ s Bike Shop —— Payment by Story.”
And so the driveway became his new workshop. He traded his expertise not for money, but for tales of scho
ol adventures and summer dreams. His rough, worn hands, once hesitant around a tablet, were sure and s
teady as they spun a wheel or tightened a bolt(螺栓). The laughter of children and the ringing of bicycle bells
replaced the previous silence of the community.
He didn't need to enter their digital world; he created a real one in his own driveway. He wasn't rejectin

You leave an hour of online surfing with the sense that the world is falling apart. In the real world, however, a neighbor y
ou disagree with politically helps you start your car. The dissonance is no accident. It is how today’ s Internet works.
To better understand this gap, researchers surveyed 1,090 adults and found that people dramatically overestimate how co
mmon harmful behavior on the Internet is. On Reddit, participants thought harmful commenters were 13 times more common,
estimating 43% of users post harmful content, while the actual figure is just 3%. Most offensive posts come from a small group
of highly active users, whose outsized posts shape public beliefs, creating the“majority illusion” that makes this minority seem li
ke the norm, drowning out the silent majority.
Our brains are wired to notice threats and moral breaks — negative content sticks in our minds. Additionally, social med
ia algorithms prioritize content that causes strong reactions to keep users engaged, with falsehoods spreading faster than truth. B
ot networks(僵尸网络) add to the noise: it has been reported that bad bots make up roughly a third of global web traffic, mislead
ing what trends and who appears popular.
Measuring online harmful content is tricky, as automated tools often miss unobvious aggressive remarks. But what matter
s more is not“how harmful is the Internet,” but what ordinary users perceive as normal. Social psychologists call this dynamic“p
luralistic ignorance”: people privately reject harmful norms but go along with them publicly. This misconception formed online
creates a dangerous gap, fueling public distrust, preventing public participation, and lowering moral standards — if we t
hink“everyone is awful,” we' re less likely to be kind.
While there is no silver bullet, practical steps — rooted in policy and personal awareness — can narrow the gap.The k
ey lies in recognizing online engagement doesn't equal approval: skip“most engaging” feeds and ground our views in actual wo
rld connections. Imagine a public square where the loudest few don't seize the microphone — disagreement remains, but the
air resounds with daily life: neighbors helping start cars, strangers holding doors. Online, we can make that

reality visible again.
28. What does the underlined word“dissonance” in Paragraph 1 probably mean
A. Disorder. B. Prejudice. C. Contrast. D. Debate.
29. What does the“majority illusion” refer to in the text
A. A false impression. B. A harmful behavior.
C. An overestimated post. D. A minority of commenters.
30. What is Paragraph 3 mainly about
A. Why global web traffic misleads people.
B. Why the minority feels like the majority.
C. How we identify online harmful content.
D. What harm online misconception causes.
31. What is the author's suggestion in the last paragraph
A. Acting like the loudest few. B. Improving moral standards.
C. Avoiding online engagement. D. Valuing real-life interactions.

Chinese scientists have developed a new refrigeration method that solves a long-standing challenge in cooling techn
ology. Published in Nature, the study responds to rising energy demands in applications ranging from food preserv
ation to data center cooling.
Traditional vapor-compression systems consume vast amounts of electricity and rely on harmful refrigerants. InChina,
refrigeration accounts for nearly 20% of the nation's electricity use and 7.8% of its carbon emissions. While solid-state
cooling avoids harmful gases, it suffers from poor heat transfer, limiting its real-world application.
Led by Professor Li Bing from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the research team overcame this by combining soli
d cooling effects with liquid flow. They used a common, non-toxic salt whose dissolution(溶解) in water absorbs large amo
unts of heat. Conversely, applying pressure causes the salt to come out and release heat. Cycling this pressure achieves conti
nuous cooling.
“Unlike traditional solid methods, where heat moves slowly, our system integrates the refrigerant and heat-transfer
medium into a single liquid,” Li said.“This solves the‘impossible triangle’—— achieving low pollution, strong cooling, and
fast heat transfer all at once.”
Lab tests showed a temperature drop of nearly 30°C in just 20 seconds at room temperature, and up to 54°C at higher t
emperatures —— significantly outperforming existing solid coolers. A prototype cycle achieved a cooling capacity of 67j
oules per gram with nearly 77% efficiency. The system also proved stable, reversible, and instantly responsive to pressure c
hanges.
“This technology moves beyond traditional refrigeration principles,” Li added.“By turning the coolant into a fluid, it o
pens the door to high-performance, zero-emission cooling for homes and industry.”
He noted the method's strong high-temperature performance makes it an ideal candidate for heat management in nex
t-generation AI computing facilities. While engineering challenges remain, especially in achieving rapidly switchable pres
sure cycles, the principle could be adapted to other materials for diverse cooling needs.
32. What is the main problem with traditional solid-state cooling systems
A. They transfer heat poorly. B. They produce harmful gases.
C. They fail at high temperature. D. They use too much electricity.
33. What is the key innovation of the new cooling method
A. Using salt instead of chemical refrigerants.
英语试卷·第 5页,共 8页
B. Increasing pressure inside traditional systems.
C. Replacing pressure cycles with continuous flow.
D. Combining solid cooling with liquid heat transfer.
34. Why does the author mention the“impossible triangle” in the text
A. To highlight the value of the new system.
B. To illustrate the design of the new system.
C. To explain why old systems are still in use.
D. To show the limitations of previous systems.
35. What does Li Bing see as a promising application of the new technology
A. Preserving food in supply chains. B. Replacing traditional home refrigerators.
C. Cooling future AI data centers. D. Achieving rapidly switchable pressure cycles.

Agriculture, as one of the oldest activities of human beings, has been shaping the development of civilization. 36It supp
lies not only food but also raw materials for countless industries, making it impossible for society to move forward without its sup
port.
Thousands of years ago, ancient humans began to master basic farming skills. They gave up the life of hunting and gathering,
and started to grow crops and raise livestock on fixed land. 37 This shift laid the foundation for the appearance of earl
y villages and cities.
With time going by, traditional farming gradually showed its limitations. It relied heavily on natural conditions and required
a huge amount of physical labor. 38 The application of modern technology has completely changed this backward situati
on.
39 Farmers adopt eco-friendly methods to grow crops, avoiding the overuse of pesticides and fertilizers, which hel
ps keep the soil fertile, protects biodiversity in the long run and creates a win-win situation for both nature and humans.
What's more, respecting agriculture and cherishing food is our responsibility to every farmer and the whole society.Modern a
griculture connects closely with our daily life. Every piece of farm produce is the result of farmers' careful care.40
A. This traditional way of farming was rather inefficient.
B. In fact, it holds an unchangeable key position in human life.
C. That's why we should never take abundant food for granted.
D. Such a lifestyle change totally transformed their living patterns.
E. Many people fail to realize the importance of farming development.
F. Nowadays, green and sustainable agriculture has become the main developing trend worldwide.
G. Cutting-edge technology and modern methods dramatically contradict what the farmers have already adopted.

My name is Mac. I’ ve always been passionate about exploring and solving problems —— whether fixing a broken toy or fig
uring out how a phone app works. This led me to join our school’ s Coding(编程) Club. In our first lesson, Ms. Davis told us that
coding is more than writing lines of code. It is about using technology to make life easier for others.
“Your project,” she announced in class one day,“is to create a simple app that solves a real-life problem.”“You have one w
eek to prepare,” she added gently, hoping this would give us enough time to find inspiration and finish the project.
The challenge stayed with me as I walked to my neighbor, Mrs. Thompson’ s apartment after school. She had invited me for
tea, as she often did on Tuesdays. Mrs. Thompson was kind and cheerful, but lately she had been a little forgetful, often misplacin
g her keys or repeating the same story twice without realizing it. When I arrived, she was in the kitchen.
“Mae! Good timing,” she greeted me warmly, and then stopped, glancing at the kettle.“Did I already boil water for tea ” I c
hecked the kettle —— it was still warm. We laughed about it as I poured water, and soon we were chatting. Our conversation turn
ed to her weekly book club with friends. Mrs. Thompson smiled, talking about her two old friends. Mr.Brown arrived late for the
game, and Mrs. Smith failed to bring her glasses twice. “We’ re quite a group,” she said.
Then her expression grew thoughtful. “We manage, of course. But sometimes I think —— wouldn’ t it be nice if somethin
g simply reminds us Take medicine. Water the plants, Friday for book club.” She tapped her head with a soft laugh.
Her words sank in. At that moment, an idea formed in my mind. As I stood up to leave, I smiled mysteriously, “Give me a f
ew days, and I’ ll bring you a little surprise.”
“Oh I’ ll try not to forget that,” she laughed.

1.续写词数应为 150 左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

A week later,I presented my project to Ms. Davis.
