Growing up as a kid in the UK, I was fascinated by insects. Wanting to protect them, I started building little houses for ants, using little pieces of wood and leaves.
I then moved on to making little cups and saucers from silver foil (箔纸) for the magic creatures that I thought lived at the bottom of the garden. When my mother saw my work, she told me that the smaller I made things, the bigger my name would become.
As the years went by, my designs became more complicated. And I used many different materials, such as diamond fragments, eyelashes and even spider web threads.
I sometimes work for 16 hours a day without breaks, and it takes me up to three months to finish a sculpture. I have to hold my breath during the sculpting process. It isn’t actually an easy process — but I can enjoy it once I’ve finished it.
My sculptures have taken me to incredible places. In 2012, I met the queen and gave her a tiny crown on the head of a pin. In 2013, I received my first Guinness World Record for creating the smallest sculpture made by hand. It was a 24-carat gold motorbike that fitted inside a drilled out hair. In 2017, I beat my record with a sculpture of a human fetus (胎儿) that measured 0.078mm by 0.053mm.
One time, a fly landed on a Cinderella carriage sculpture I was working on. The fly’s wings blew it away, and it was lost. I was heart-broken. Another time, I accidentally breathed in a microscopic Alice from Alice in Wonderland. Alice is now in Wonderland forever. But it did give me the chance to make an even better one the second time around.
The microscopic world has always been my happy place. I’ve tried to make bigger sculptures, but small is best for me. We need to appreciate the little things in life. Small things can also be mighty, too.
24. What inspired the author to create tiny sculptures
A. His desire for fame. B. His love for insects.
C. His passion for architecture. D. His dream of setting a record.
25. How does the author think of his sculpting process
A. Creative and fulfilling. B. Competitive and demanding.
C. Exhausting but enjoyable. D. Relaxing but time-consuming.
26. What message does the author intend to convey
A. Failure is the mother of success. B. Don’t underestimate small things.
C. Attention to details leads to success. D. Don’t let others’ opinions define you.
27. What is the best title for the passage
A. From Ants to Crowns: A Micro-Artist’s Journey
B. 16 Hours a day: The Price of Artistic Perfection
C. The Function of Microscopic Art: An amazing Tool
D. The Future of Microscopic Art: Is It Worth the Effort
C
New scientific understanding and engineering techniques have always impressed and frightened us, and will continue to do so. Open AI recently announced that it anticipates superintelligent AI going beyond human abilities within this decade. It is accordingly building a new team, and devoting 20% of its computing resources to ensuring that the behavior of such AI systems will be aligned with (与……一致) human values.
Beyond engineers and researchers, can philosophers shape AI too Philosophy has been instrumental to AI from its early days. In 1956, the Logic Theorist, the first operational AI program, was created to prove mathematical theorems (定理), drawing on ideas from philosophers Alfred North Whitehead and Bertrand Russell. Besides, German philosopher Gottlob Frege also laid the groundwork for modern logic and computing, which helped create early AI systems.
Today’s AI, based on deep learning, is associated with processing vast quantities of data. Philosophy, however, remains relevant. Take Large Language Models (LLMs), like ChatGPT, which generates conversational text. At their heart, they track statistical patterns of language use. Something very much like this idea was stated by the Austrian philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein: the meaning of a word is found in its use in the language.
Philosophy also raises big questions about AI’s future. Can AI truly understand language or become conscious (有意识的) Science has so far been unable to fully explain how consciousness arises. Similarly, can AI be creative British scientist Margaret Boden believes AI can produce new ideas but struggles to evaluate them like humans do.
As AI grows more powerful, aligning AI with human values is not just a technical challenge but a social one. It requires input from philosophers, social scientists, policymakers, and citizen users. British author Jamie Susskind even suggests building a “digital republic” — one that rejects the political and economic systems that excessively empower tech giants.
AI is also changing philosophy putational models simulate real-world situations, aiding philosophers in tackling social questions. As AI develops, it provides new ways to explore age-old questions, ensuring philosophy remains essential in guiding our technological future.
28. What is OpenAI mainly concerned about
A. The waste of its computing resources.
B. The potential risks of superintelligent AI.
C. The decline of human competitive abilities.
D. The high cost of super intelligence research.
29. What is the main focus of Paragraph 2
A. The technical breakthroughs in early AI.
B. The philosophy’s historical contributions to AI.
C. The role of mathematical theorems in AI creation.
D. The collaboration between philosophers and engineers.
30. Why does the author mention Wittgenstein’s viewpoint
A. To explain the linguistic logic of LLMs.
B. To argue philosophers’ superiority in AI research.
C. To illustrate philosophy’s relevance to modern AI.
D. To prove LLMs lack genuine language understanding.
31. Which word best defines the relationship between AI and philosophy
A. Interdependent. B. Irrelevant. C. Competitive. D. One-sided.
D
Few people outside the shipping industry know palletization, widely called “dǎbǎn” in Chinese air freight. It refers to loading goods onto standardized unit load devices, a key step that ensures the safety and efficiency of air transport. According to IATA’s 2024 report, over 90%of global air cargo depends on this method, with about 1.1 million active devices supporting cross-border delivery every day.
Palletization follows strict and clear rules: heavy goods are placed at the bottom, fragile items are kept above, and all packages are neatly arranged and tightly fixed with nets or straps. This careful arrangement prevents goods from sliding or falling during flight. Wei Jianming, a loading supervisor at Ezhou Huahu Airport, leads a team of workers handling hundreds of tons of cargo daily. A 2025 study on aircraft loading shows that standard weight distribution cuts in-flight cargo movement by 87%, greatly reducing flight safety risks and protecting valuable goods from damage.
This process also creates huge economic value for global trade. A 2023 IATA survey notes that 2% to 20% of improperly prepared load devices are rejected each year, causing flight delays and extra transport costs. During the pandemic,Guangzhou Customs’ efficient pallet system reduced medical supply handling time to within 13 hours. Special temperature-controlled pallets also protect vaccines and medicine by keeping them at 2–8℃for up to 120 hours, which is highly important for international medical support.
Modern palletization has become more technical and environmentally friendly.Eco-friendly composite pallets cut carbon emissions by 38% compared with traditional metal types, and over 10,000 have been put into use since 2023. Efficient palletization shortens the factory-to-flight process to just 15 hours, supporting hundreds of billions of yuan in cross-border trade. As a vital part of air cargo, it keeps global logistics and emergency supply chains running smoothly and reliably, connecting businesses and families across the world.
32. Why does the author introduce palletization at the beginning of the text
A. To explain a professional term. B. To lead in the core topic.
C. To show air cargo’s global growth. D. To compare different transport methods.
33. What can be inferred from Paragraph 3
A. Improper palletization causes extra economic losses.
B. All unit load devices are rejected every year.
C. Medical supplies need no temperature control.
D. Guangzhou Customs created the pallet system.
34. What does the underlined word “composite” in Paragraph 4 probably mean
A. Natural. B. Traditional. C. Metal. D. Synthetic.
35. What might be discussed in the following paragraph
A. How to expand air cargo scale in the future with palletization
B. How to update palletization operation rules for the years ahead
C. How to reduce flight delays via palletization in the coming years
D. How to further improve palletization for future development

In 1991, when Elena Pantaleoni first walked into La Stoppa, ____56____ historic wine factory founded in the late 1800s and set among the rolling hills of northern Italy, she felt an immediate responsibility to the land. “My role was not to impose a new vision; the inspiration came from understanding that this place already possessed everything it needed — character, strength and a clear voice — and my task was ____57____ (simple) to align the work with that truth,” she recalls.
She dedicated herself with all her heart ____58____ organic farming and eliminated synthetic chemicals, believing that respecting the life of the soil was inseparable from respecting the people ____59____ (connect) to it. 第二节(满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My name is Mae. I’ve always been passionate about exploring and solving problems — whether fixing a broken toy or figuring out how a phone app works. This led me to join our school’s Coding (编程) Club. In our first lesson, Ms. Davis told us that coding is more than writing lines of code. It is about using technology to make life easier for others.
“Your project,” she announced in class one day, “is to create a simple app that solves a real-life problem.” “You have one week to prepare,” She added gently, hoping this would give us enough time to find inspiration and finish the project.
The challenge stayed with me as I walked to my neighbor Mrs. Thompson’s apartment after school. She had invited me for tea, as she often did on Tuesdays. Mrs. Thompson was kind and cheerful, but lately she had been a little forgetful, often misplacing her keys or repeating the same story twice without realizing it. When I arrived, she was in the kitchen.
“Mae! Good timing,” she greeted me warmly, and then stopped, glancing at the kettle. “Did I already boil water for tea ”
I checked the kettle — it was still warm. We laughed about it as I poured water, and soon we were chatting. Our conversation turned to her weekly book club with friends. Mrs. Thompson smiled, talking about her two old friends. Mr. Brown arrived late for the game, and Mrs. Smith failed to bring her glasses twice. “We’re quite a group,” she said.
Then her expression grew thoughtful. “We manage, of course. But sometimes I think wouldn’t it be nice if something simply reminds us Take medicine. Water the plants. Friday for book club.” She tapped her head with a soft laugh.
Her words sank in. At that moment, an idea formed in my mind. As I stood up to leave, I smiled mysteriously, “Give me a few days, and I’ll bring you a little surprise.”
“Oh I’ll try not to forget that,” she laughed.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

D. One-sided.
【答案】28. B 29. B 30. C 31. A

【答案】 That night, I sat at my desk, notebook open and mind racing with details. I decided to design a gentle reminder app especially for the elderly. I listed simple functions: important dates, daily tasks, and warm notes. I focused on making the words big and the buttons easy to touch. Whenever I felt stuck, I thought of Mrs. Thompson’s kind smile and her wish for something to help her remember. I carefully tested every part again and again, making sure it was simple and helpful. Deep in my heart, I hoped this little app could bring convenience and warmth to her and more elderly people.
A week later, I presented my project to Ms. Davis. I introduced the app’s purpose and showed how it worked. Ms. Davis praised my thoughtful idea and spoke highly of my project. After class, I brought the app to Mrs. Thompson. She was delighted and tried it at once. “This is exactly what I need,” she said happily. Watching her smile, I truly understood what Ms. Davis had meant: coding is not just code, but a way to use technology to care for others.
